I appreciate his habit of being polite to his opponents and constructing an argument rather than getting offended and hectoring people who aren’t a part of his tribe. The opening clip in particular is so prescient. The politicians refuse to discuss the issues, they got Brexit as a result.
Me too. I like the fact that some of his views are abhorrent to me and others sit so easily amongst mine. And that's so much more natural than party political lines; that blunderbuss approach to ideas, just to claim power. He is a great advert for being free to think for yourself, but a terrible advert for parliamentary democracy. Nothing would get done if everybody in the chamber only expressed their personal views on issues.
I really get Peter Hitchins and what bugs me the most is why 80-95% of people just don't get him and write him off as being an old- fashioned, and manic superficial toff. He's none of these things. A couple I know in London, a doctor and a self-employed web designer had to rent and save into their mid-late 30s and have parents’ help in order to finally afford to get a mortgage on a small terrace house. Utterly ridiculous. UK Housing policy is insane.
