Penn State football was fairly successful in staving off the NCAA transfer portal through the first five months of 2024. However, five more Nittany Lions joined KeAndre Lambert-Smith and, Malick Meiga and Davon Townley in the spring transfer portal on Thursday. The group includes wide receiver Malik McClain, offensive lineman Golden Israel-Achumba, running backs London Montgomery and David Kency Jr., and safety King Mack.
Today, we assess how each player's departure affects the team.

Best wishes to you guys. My general comment is that 'college football' no longer exists. It is now semi-pro football. Players are going to go to the highest bidder and in many cases, they will not stay at the same school for 4 years. In a few years we will be able to look back on what NIL and the transfer portal created. Right now, it looks like a bumpy ride.

It is the nature of college football for players to come and go. Penn State gets players from the portal too. The only thing that matters is who shows up on August 1st ready to play football.

I'm amazed. Our fans have a problem with nil but think we should play better against the top teams. We have two top ten recruiting classes in ten years. Ohio State is top five for the last five years. We need better recruiting classes. And nil and facilities are what the teams ahead of us have. Better talent wins

By definition, CFB is now professional football. How long before it's realized that the "C" is no longer needed? I mean, really, what does going to school have to do with any of this? Right now, the Universities are just a tool for the players to maximize their earning potential with very little commitment. I don't really like that players are now getting paid, but I agree with it. Previously, college athletes were the most exploited individuals on earth. But I think a good solution to all these transfers would be to allow the Universities to say, "Hey, you want big-boy money you sign a big-boy contract and stick around for more than a year."

For a college football team? Cmon dude. You must make a lot more money than me. I have a wife, 3 young kids and just bought our first house on 5 acres. I do well enough to allow the wife to stay at home but not well enough to justify giving one penny to a college football team because oh gosh I really hope they win...This shit is getting absurd. We're starting to be made to feel less than by others because we don't donate. You can't be a true die hard unless you've donated. Etc...Im not saying you did that, but it's true in general. FK that man. PSU wrestling is my favorite as a wrestler and I am even getting pissed off at the money hucked around their.

Ugh.. maybe I'm just getting too old for this stuff. I already have to deal with the fact that Penn State is NOT Ohio State, or even Michigan, and I don't see any real path for them to ever get there. The fact is, there are 134 NCAA D1 schools, but only 4-5 that actually have a chance of winning a national title every year, and Penn State is not on that short list.
Now, even when we are lucky enough to get good recruits, we have to deal with developing young guys, just for them to take the first money deal that comes their way.
Mark my words.. this NIL stuff is going to backfire in the coming years. Just watch. These young kids always need someone to blame. All these young kids that are getting paid now, they're going to end up blowing their money on partying, etc., and then when they're 22 and their eligibility has ended, and they realize that they've blown through $756,253 in 4 years, and they didn't focus on their football and schooling; and now they have no degree, they have no football future in the NFL, and they spent all their money... they will need to find somebody to blame for their mistakes, . and they'll sue NCAA/ College (or whomever else has deep pockets).
I just don't like the way it's headed. Im not usually the half-empty type, but I just don't see college football heading in the right direction .
    Convince me otherwise!

    • @TimM-wk1zx

The PSU wrestling team has a cumulative GPA of 3.85 as a team. Most are there on academic scholarships, and a wrestler that is taking his Masters next year just got offered 400k to wrestle next postseason….should he say no? 🧐🤦‍♂️.
The only kid leaving off the wrestling team in the portal THIS YEAR has already graduated and is a 4.0 bioengineer.
The football team doesn’t have that team chemistry, or aptitude.
Kids should own their likeness….Has anyone ever held Universities culpable for the Billions collectively they’ve made off the kids in the past.

They gave them an education; an opportunity to make hundreds of thousands a year, as long as you worked hard at your education ( albeit the right major).

I get the point you’re trying to make, but I see no issue handing a 4.0 gpa student 250k. I mean if the kid had student loans, ur making him sign on the dotted line at 18 he owes that much money. Help me understand the difference.
Lastly, I’m assuming you think these kids shouldn’t own their own likeness? I knew a girl at PSU aerospace engineer getting paid monthly for her research and they paid her tuition. What’s the difference?

Watch the ESPN 30 for 30 called “Broke.” You’d be absolutely shocked by how many professional athletes go bankrupt. And after a few years just watch. Watch how it’ll be everyone else’s fault that these “college” kids are broke. How the schools still didn’t do enough to help these poor disadvantaged exploited kids. When it all backfires I will have zero sympathy.
