  • WELCOME TO FTB SPOTLIGHT!
In this new series, we'll excavate way beyond surface level research and focus our attention on a singular subject/topic in order to clear up misconceptions or incorrect narratives about the Penn State football team.
And what better place to begin episode 1 than with the man who wears No. 1 -- fifth-year WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith. Using our film library and advanced statistical datapoints, FTB contributor Cam Blackburn outlines KLS' strengths and weaknesses working out of the X, Z, and slot receiver positions and explains why the Virginia native's desired spot (slot receiver) might be limiting when you consider the totality of his skillset.

I agree I think he is better at the Z spot

Did you see at the 3:41 how incredible wide open KLS was deep and Drew look right at him at not throw it?! I love it when people say our WRs weren't open deep or don't get separation. You know how often we had WRs open deep and Drew didn't pull the trigger!

I do agree that Drew missed his primary target too many times last year. I think it's because he cycled through his progressions too quickly and was very conservative in his decision-making. In the example you pointed out, I think Drew saw the safety shift towards KLS and assumed he couldn't get the ball downfield in time. We believe he has the arm strength to sling the ball with velocity, but Drew has to believe that too.

drew's cycling through reads and progressions is gonna be film study 1 in july. it's really interesting to look back at what he saw or should have saw,

@@ForTheBlogy in an interview with t Frank a week or so ago Drew said his best asset was also his weakest and that is going through his progressions too fast. He admitted coming off his 1st read to quick before it developed. I saw this problem game 2 vs Illinois. There are times like this game where he doesn't come off his first three too fast he's just afraid to throw the ball downfield

War Damn Keandre!!! No way they can guard Keandre, Cam Coleman, Robert Lewis and Rivaldo Fairweather all at the same time. Auburn's about to finally have a potent passing attack again.

Seemed to make his living crossing/ finding soft spots in zone coverage. Won't separate or fight for the ball even if Allar hits him on the deep out. Question seems to be how he fits in Coach K's system when he's asked to block or, run motion to set up wide zone.

KLS is so frustrating, at times his speed and route running are a thing of beauty, but then at other times he’s almost nonexistent. If he can get more consistent he should eclipse 800 or so yards next season with some explosive TDs

Great point 👉!!! I think with the new OC and J. Fleming it will make KLS much better and take pressure off him to think he has to do everything!!!

I pray to god that this guy spends most of this season on the bench with Fleming getting most of the action. Idk how but this coaching staff and QB made this dude fucking suck. Not entirely his fault but not an excuse either. Our pass game is a joke for a reason 😂
