- In 2019 Penn State hosted Michigan for its "White Out" game tradition. With over a full capacity the crowd sang "Mo Bamba" by Sheck Wes so loud that Michigan was forced to use a timeout before the first play.

A Penn State white-out vs a highly-ranked team is #1 on my college football bucket list.
Good thing PSU chose to do whiteout for a powerhouse team like Minnesota and not OSU the following week

So this video has made me discover how amazing the combination of the sky-cam angle WITH no ESPN commentators garbling down your ear. I'd love to watch all football games like this.
@Chris Handsome where is that
Bro they need a channel espn 8 for all sky cam games no commentary. I put that shit on my surround sound. Feels so good
All white out games are like this…well until we became trash and are playing Minnesota instead of Ohio state 🙄

The crowd cheering after forcing the timeout call gave me goosebumps. They knew what their job was as fans.
I was there and when that happened, listen to the recording, we got even louder. Up to then we were just super hyped up but after, we realized that we could play a part in the outcome. Took it up to 11.
@@cvn6555 yup, that’s what gave me the chills lol
Unsportsmanlike. Sorry.
It's part of the game and it's called the home field advantage. What is uncool is when an NFL team would pump fan noise through the speakers to interfere with the visiting team. Or when the Giants would open large doors at the end zone when the opposing team was attempting a FG, hoping the extra wind would result in a miss. That is just wrong.
@@mellocello187 Arrowhead Stadium. (Not) Sorry.
Ok this is insane. Can’t imagine being a 19 year old athlete on Michigan playing in these conditions.
And only losing by a touchdown shows how good the team actually was, most teams would have cracked and lost by 3 plus touchdowns
Michigan Stadium holds over 100,000 fans. The players are used to it.
@@waltermeerschaert Whiteout is different. And this stadium holds less but they're louder than at Michigan.

Yep. We were just really hyped until that happened. Once we realized we could affect the course of the game we went insane. We had also been getting hammered all day long in the lots.
I’ve been in that type of atmosphere and you feel rewarded when the other team has to call time out lol
What penalty? There was a timeout and an incomplete pass. lol.

Wasn't at this game, but I was at the Auburn whiteout. Seeing it on a TV and watching it in person are 2 completely different things. The raw power in that stadium is unreal. It's so loud that it's quiet, because you literally can't hear anything. As a Penn State student, I never really understood why all these fans were so die-hard with their support for that team, Until that moment. In that moment, I realized what it was. It's something unexplainable. A bond shared by nearly 110,000 people all screaming at the top of their lungs. It's by far one of the greatest experiences of my life, and I can't wait to go back and witness it again this October against Minnesota
Good God. As a former Illini fan, you make me want to go to a whiteout game. Need a good college ncaa football experience because the Illini have nothing.

I agree. Would love to go to a Penn State game to compare. Loudest I’ve ever been to was UT Oklahoma
Wear a neutral jersey.
LSU is louder than Tennessee, so is A&M. Tennessee might be the loudest in the East though, but not second loudest in the country.
I’m a UGA Alum and was at Neyland in 2019 when we played there and the first quarter was obscenely loud before we got too far ahead. Stadium wasn’t even full either. I’ve been to auburn, Williams Bryce, Clemson, etc. Neyland probably the loudest. If Heupel keeps this thing going that place is gonna be unplayable for away teams.

You should watch the video they play before the players come out of the tunnel. Basically pictures with the words "Our Towns" then "Our Cities" and they show Philly and Pittsburgh and then "Our State". Makes the crowd insane and gives me chills. Can not wait until September 2nd vs WVU.
I'm a Michigan fan and I sat near the end zone with a bunch of Penn State fans near me definitely a crazy game but I gotta give credit to Penn State fans they didn't give me any issues.
PSU fans make a point of being hospitable to the fans of opposing teams. If some of ours get out of line, some of ours will bring them back into line. Glad you had a good experience. Never go to Philly in the opposing team's jersey.
As a Buckeye fan. I was very thankful Fox got the game this year. To me the whiteout is a 10-14 point advantage than the game played at noon.

I'd agree with you that a night Whiteout is a greater homefield advantage than a noon Stripeout. But even at Noon, Beaver Stadium is gonna be rocking when the Buckeyes come to town.
you're right on the money with 10-14, and i've seen a few dozen games there, whiteout is next level football. i can't imagine being in that as a visitor lol how awesome is that. or just being idaho in 2019, how overmatched can you get, and then the fans are just louder than anything you've seen in whatever western stadium you've been to as fan, much less as a player

it's about to get way worse. All these "collectives" giving NIL "salaries" to players is going to ruin college football. Michigan State, Ohio State, and Alabama have fucking payrolls for players right now. Don't think it will make much of a difference for a team like MSU since their defense is fucking ass, but it's going to put OSU and Bama on another level. Hopefully, the greatest Supreme Court our country has ever seen will take up a case that strikes down NIL so we can make college football great again!
it’s a bit too late, but this last year will be the most watched year of football yet to be seen for sure, especially before the conference changes and NCAA break off. the tide has turned in the favor of the schools with a boatload of money such as texas, miami, usc, and many others that dominated back in the day.

@@johnsonspark171 I think NIL is here to stay but I do think it can help some athletes but hurt most of them --- the marginal athletes will think they are hot stuff and spend way too much of their time trying to get endorsement deals and other bullshit to earn some money instead of watching game film and becoming better players on the field --- deep down they know they won't make the NFL so they will spend all their efforts on cashing out their collegiate career for every last fucking dime --- it's gonna get really annoying for the fans who just wanna enjoy a normal football Saturday without hearing about "branding" for these athletes!

Must of been painful tho
As a Penn State fan, I've been to many whiteout games including the game against Ohio State in 2016 where we won. But this game, by far, was my favorite. The energy and how loud it got was surreal.
I sat in the upper North End Zone, first row behind metal plates and banged on them all night. Not only did I lose my voice but was pretty well bruised up along the arms, lol.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
I have had tickets all over the stadium but never was up in the North Stratosphere. What's it like being that close to the Moon? LOL The South Upper section at least has seatbacks. I finally got season tickets years ago in the middle of ED and will never give them up!

The only thing we ask is that you wear white.
I grew up and still live about an hour away from Penn State. My dad took me to my first white out game when I was in 8th grade and still remember it vividly to this day, I am now 29. The dark areas in the stadium make the place feel more hostile for some reason. Awesome atmosphere to be a part of and play in.
The fact the left guard had to TAP THE CENTER ON THE LEG TO SNAP THE BALL will forever be engraved into my head.
Notice on the second play how #74 had to tap the leg of the center to let him know when the QB was ready for the snap. Gave me chills how loud the crowd is. I love sports so much.

Been a season ticket holder since 2003 with my dad, and that one was up there for sure with the Nebraska game, The 06 OSU game, and the 2016 OSU game. If you havent experienced a Beaver Stadium White Out whether you're a PSU fan or not, Do it. You won't regret it I promise
I was a 20+ year season ticket holder, but gave them up for a variety of reasons including age, travel issues and the inability of this coaching staff to win against Michigan and Ohio State. It gets difficult to invest a great deal of emotion, hope and energy then have a 3 hour drive feeling emotionally drained when you know the staff is not up to the task and another big game is lost. White outs are truly amazing things but a victory is better. The fans and students are being cheated by an coach and administration that cannot even be near .500 against the good programs. There is no substitute for victory. Nuff said.
No one cares nor did we ask for a novel
@@mijkosnook7787 I find it novel that you consider less than 120 words a novel. Let us call it a vignette. This is an incredible clip, but I still don't get how it was allowed for PSU to pump in music until 6 seconds left on the play clock. Every college game I've been to the music/band stops playing immediately when the play clock starts.
Yep pretty BS
@@wesleyhicks9414 Still wouldn't have made a difference, the Michigan players still would have no clue what Jim Harbaugh was saying on the headset.
Yeah that's egregious. Music is literally blasting not only as the play clock ticks down, but even through the opening kickoff. Kinda weak.
@@anderson74 Maybe and it doesn't really matter. But, if you watch the Michigan players taking the field from the beginning it really seems to me that all of them are waiting around for the music to stop. The QB literally doesn't get set until 5 seconds left which happens to be right after the music stops.
It's also odd that the ref is standing over the ball until 20 seconds left on the playclock. Just all of it makes it seem that they weren't aware the playclock had started running so soon.
It's not a noise/headset issue, they would already have the playcall before even getting on the field as it's the first play of the game. Also, in college coaches can't talk to the QB via a headset.
Also, watching the very next play in the video the music stops before the play clock begins and the ref is not standing over the ball while the playclock is running.
How all games should be televised. I would probably start watching college ball again.
So loud that you can hardly hear the ref 😂
This is absolutely insane. I couldn’t hear the ref make the delay of game call. 100,000+ Wildin to Mo Bamba. This is the single most intimidating crowd moment I’ve seen in sports.
imagine how loud the crowd would be if they would actually win more than 1 big game every 5 years
An introduction can’t be the most electric moment in football, it’s not even a play lmao
Any of y’all ever been to a sold out orange and white checkerboard rocky top vs Alabama? That legit was one of the most deafening, goosebump-giving, and incredible experiences of my life
Not as loud as 110k fans. Facts
Amazing- but let's not overlook the fact that Penn State has a losing record during white out games.
white out is for their biggest game every year at home so losing isn’t the worst thing
They've lost games when there wasn't a white out, too, dummy.
they won this game and the the game against auburn and minnesota and ohio state in 2016
Proud to say I was there
Was at a white out game in 1996, the famous snow fight, it was so much fun even though Michigan lost!
3:10 it so loud the left tackle is having to tap the center to tell him that the QB is ready to snap 😭
Big Noon Saturday is going to ruin this
You will still have night games, just not on ESPN
Already has…they play minnesota bc big noon wanted psu vs osu
So loud the announcers couldn’t talk lol
Have to give credit to the sound team at the stadium. Every song, every cue, the timing...all absolute perfection.
I met Shea Patterson right after he transferred from Ole Miss and before his first ever game at Michigan. I can’t imagine the thoughts going through that man’s mind while he endured the roar of the crowd on that fateful October 19 evening 4 years ago when he almost pulled off the upset. Incredible game to watch for any and all who witnessed it.
