Okay, if you order z51, it should come with the extra two quarts, if you’re paying $5k for Z51, it’s the least they can do!

Tech at Ron Fellows said he fills them through the vent tube after disconnecting from the air filter housing. I haven't tried it yet but sounds worth a try.
I wish there had been a option with Z51 package to include it filled at factory.
There are some You Tube videos showing how you don’t need to take the air cleaner completely out and just take it partially out to get to the fill spot. Some videos also show how to use a tube to fill it up requiring less to be taken apart. Ridiculous that GM did not fill it. Many people are saying some of the DCT issues are simply due to not having the fluid topped off.

GM is charging $6k for the Z51 package they should automatically include the 2 quarts. Grrrr.

@@RickCorvetteConti : Looks like they filmed that C8 Z sneak peak out here in TX just outside of Austin at COTA. Then again perhaps they just used some stock footage from COTA & added the engine sounds.

I just did this, only loosened the Airbox enough to get it out of the way, then added the 2quarts that way. fill hole is 3/8 so used a 3/8 OD tube to fill it
Amazing how complex this machine is. Tadge and crew did a fantastic job developing it. Great vlog showing Chuck working on it.
complex is not always a better thing, wait until the warranty expires on the transmission and chevy tells you that you need to replace it with a new transmission at your cost. that will be a shitty day, and i guarantee many owners will be stuck with it. most transmission shops and performance shops won't touch a dct with a ten foot pole.

Rick I had to chuckle a little looking at your lot!! It was nice to see the C8's you have for people but I remember a few years ago that opening shot would have showed Corvettes all the way back the the trucks on both sides!! The shortage of the C8's has crushed the used Vette market.. Great tip on letting someone know about the 2 quarts of oil when you take it in for service!!

Couldn't a person have the two quarts added at the factory when their car is being built. should be an option, and then only pay for the two additional quarts, and no labor charge.

Rick, You continually amaze me with tech tips, Chucks superior knowledge and willingness to share how mtce items should be handled. Chuck routinely cautions owners on items that we as customers would overlook at the time we pickup our baby. There are few techs as careful as Chuck. My hats off to Chuck - 👌 Top gear Chuck.

Hey Rick, I know that this is a video in the past but I'll add 2 extra qt DCT fluid with a local Chevy dealership soon after my 2022 C8 Stingray got 1,600 miles on it since last November. As a SCCA member, I bring my C8 Stingray as many tracks as I can this year. I'm planning to get a SCCA competition license next year. I've watched this video many times. Keep up the great work!

I saw somewhere on internet some sort of fluid full pipe to reach the full plug area to avoid some of the complete hassles. That would be a great addition to this vlog.

Since working on a DCT and not knowing it has the extra two quarts in it, seems like having some type of sticker in an obvious place would be called for.
Hopfully the C8 ZO6 will be factory filled with the 2 extra quarts of DCT fluid.
GM! How hard would it be to relocate the full plug? Seems like a design flaw to me.

What a great video today Rick!!! Man there’s a lot involved in just adding two quarts to the DCT on the C8!!! I think the design engineers could’ve done a better job of where they placed the cap to top off the transmission!!! Really awesome your rides section in this video!!! Really love seeing the classic corvettes like the C1’s and C2’s!!! Thank you for sharing this content!!! Can’t wait to see the next video! Still dreaming but hopefully one day soon I’ll be driving!!!!!!

ive seen reverse fill options to ADD oil via the drain plug for other cars, possibly someone can create this for C8. It threads/screws into the drain port and via vacuum power it can suck up the 2 added quarts.
If you lift the car on the driver side you can add the 2 quarts through the drain plug. The plug is accessible through the rear driver side wheel well. It literally takes less than 10 mins to do.

Great video. I would like to just change the transmission fluid on my C8. I can easily drain all fluid from drain plug on pan. Can I measure what came out and add this (new) entire amount through the fill plug under the air box. I never seen a video where more than 2 quarts are added from the top under the air box. Thank you.

Just trying to decide if I want to add it now so I can run a couple Road America track days or wait and have it added during my GM service. Or will Ricky get me my "22" soon enough that I just wait ??? 😆 🤣 😂

Great video Rick! One of your best. It does raise a possibly disturbing question - based on what it takes Chuck to simply add transmission fluid, can one assume it takes at least two hours of a tech’s time to simply change the air filter?

Hay is Chuck going to be a GM model for DCT Fluid LOL. Boy what a job just to get in there to add the 2 qts of fluid. Seems like they would have put the plug somewhere else like Chuck said or maybe a line going upto where you check your oil level keep it simple. Has there been any problems with the DCT operation where maybe the additional fluid would prevent possible DCT failure or shifting problems. Have great day Rick. Tom from SC.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to add 2 liters during the build and charge us? Seems like we would all prefer to drain two liters if not needed

Damn, what a PIA just to change the air filter.
Why not replace where you check your tranny level with a valved plug so you could "pump" in the 2 qts! Sure would be a hell of a lot easier and you don't have some tech fumbling up your wiring. There is also a process you have to go through when you change the tranny filter. My tech did it but you did not mention it in your video.
Why is the transmission PDI maintenance of topping off of transmission fluid, different from adding two additional quarts?Apparently there is a significant labor cost when adding the two extra quarts vs topping off during the PDI maintenance. "Topping off", as PDI calls for, is not the same process as adding two additional quarts. Can you please have Chuck explain in a future episode. Obviously there must be more work involved in add vs topping off. Thanks
transmission filter only.... when they change the transmission oil filter they loose some oil so question is where do they add the oil they lost????

Hello, I'm operating a Corvette c8 in Korea. my C8 currently driving a 2020 year. 41,000km,
I replaced dct filter + mission oil at 30000km.
I want to replace the dct filter because it's a replacement cycle, do I need to inject additional mission oil after replacing the filter? Or do I need to inject additional oil only when driving the track?
I’m confused. Why would I need to add two quarts as if Chevy screwed up and left the transmissions low on fluid. I’m so lost.

I love the C8, but that sure looks like an awful lot of work just to add trans fluid. How many miles between trans fluid changes? And as noted above, why not just add the two quarts prior to assembly or at least make it an option?
Miles between DCT oil change is 45000 miles or after 24 hours of track usage whichever comes first. The reason they don't add the additional oil, is that all the DCTs are manufactured elsewhere and has a normal fill. It would be too confusing to keep track of which ones have the additional oil or not per the BG plant manager. Plus at BG they can not add the additional oil due to safety hazards of oil storage and transfer tanks in a manufacturing facility.

Great informative video lets all owners know how much labor is involved. Please lose the music at the end of your video. I enjoyed watching the photos of the owners cars but the music was grating and not appropriate for your age or most of the watchers. I guess it’s hard with copyright issues maybe nothing at all would work?

No definitely not free...3 hours book labor plus another $100 for the 2 quarts of fluid.
May be this video is good enough reason not to buy a used C8 Vette that may need transmission fluid changed. You want a mid-engine Vette, buy a new one. This is way too risky to change the fluid.
