He made a good point about the second generation confusion. Many second generation non residents either relate to their roots in their home countries or completely distance themselves from the same. Their decision is mostly affected by their upbringing instead of an independent personal choice. Moreover, in some cases it robs them off a bit of their self esteem if they cannot trace their roots/cultural heritage and they look in all the wrong places to find the same.
Second gen people are actually foreigners for Indians as the country and culture they are born into and were brought up is definitely not Indian. So their mindset, thinking etc is similar to the culture they are born into rather than their parents culture

I really can't get into thinking of Indians as "Asians". Sure geographically, India is located in South Asia but don't make a mistake that average Americans will lump you with our image of Asians as typically Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Taiwanese Filipino, Thai, etc. I'm from America, and Indians here are just Indians by themselves. "Asians" for us are the ones I mentioned from East and SE Asian countries who also happen to share very similar features with each other. Indians are just very far off from them. #REALTALK
