    Rebellion became Resistance, when J J Abrams decided, that he cant just copy same faction with the same name, so he changed the name, and thats about it.

    • @ACEnBEAKY

      Yeah, pretty much, sadly. So far, at least. If the next 2 movies are good and cover new ground, I'll forgive it. I'll see it as a necessary messed up first step to get it's bearings. But if Disney and JJ Abrams make the next 2 movies Remixes (half remake half sequel) I might lose faith in the franchise at large. The only way Disney could save itself is to make a series or show based on the cream of the EU Legends.

    • @thatperformer3879
      @thatperformer3879 Před 6 lety +2

      ACEnBEAKY Rian Johnson better imply that the Resistance is not actually the galaxy's primary military but that they are more of informants on the truth, and once enough information was provided the New Republic Military could then declare war on the first order. If not, then the series is fucked.

    It would be rad if the Resistance used "hand me down" galactic republic tech from the prequel trilogy. Clone trooper tech perhaps that they find on abandoned outpost planets. Ergo, we get star destroyer vs star destroyer. AT-TEs vs AT-M6s. Maybe even use some separatist tech against the first order. It would be a neat way on tributing the prequels without being as terrible as they are.

    I have a good Question, how many people survived the second DeathStar?
    I ask this because Luke somehow got Vader to the shuttle with out anyone trying to stop him. The only explanation I have for this is that an order was given to evacuate and the time between the Emperor's death and the explosion must of opened a small opportunity for people to use the shuttles, escape pods and tie fighters.

    Even if they signed a demilitarization act, the fact that the New Republic controls most of the known galaxy ensures that they should be able to rapidly remilitarize.

    • @Tubeman244
      @Tubeman244 Před 6 lety

      AssaultPlazma Actually not, why do you think the Clone Wars happened & Sidious was able to manipulate the war? The corrupt Old Republic needed a massive army in a short amount of time to deal with the Separatists & training enlistees takes time they didn't have, hence the clone army.

    • @PlazmaZ5
      @PlazmaZ5 Před 6 lety +2

      I highly doubt every last battle ready warship was scrapped. Also you underestimate the scale of production when you control most of the known galaxy.
      The clones were just there to give the republic a solid foundation since they hand't fought a major war in centuries. The republic still could have remilitarized without the clones, just would taken much longer without a solid foundation of professional troops plus all the R&D needed to produce modern weapons of war. The new republic has both of these already.

    • @Tubeman244
      @Tubeman244 Před 6 lety

      AssaultPlazma Against the high number of battle droids the CIS had at the beginning? It would have done nothing more but stall their victory, it would have been a galaxy vs Reapers scenario (which was only won by the former thanks to Shepard. Without him/her the Reapers would have won easily) Soldiers & enlistees take time to train, battle droids can be mass produced in the thousands practically overnight. Millitias are good but when the CIS say fuck this & just 'Battle of Hypori' your ass no amount of local or system militia is going to save that planet. The CIS would have railroaded the Rebels in a war.

    • @thanghoang3198
      @thanghoang3198 Před 5 lety +1

      Wrong, by late war the Rebels were essentially a juggernaut like the British Army in 1918 or the Soviet Army in 1945. Such an army would have stomped the droids.

    Great. In Legends, the New Republic was an unprepared, moronic group too afraid of becoming the Empire to properly stand the test of time. In canon, they're a moronic, naïve group who invited death the moment it showed up.
    Just for once, could we actually get a competent, powerful New Republic that doesn't get spectacularly beaten in like five minutes!?

    • @Tracer_Krieg
      @Tracer_Krieg Před 6 lety +16

      They had ten years to prepare and they still were literally thrown out of the Core by Thrawn and Palpatine. They then elected two Chiefs of State that both managed to almost bring the Republic down or corrupt it. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to elect a former Imperial Black Operations Officer who also was romantically involved with Tarkin!
      And a weak and dying Empire? They couldn't finish them off when they were at their weakest and allowed them to become the Remnant! Or do you not remember the shit Paelleon went through?
      Luke also didn't have billions. He had maybe thousands.
      They also had warning that the Vong were coming and didn't act on it. As a result, the NR were brutally smashed in a conflict that left Billions if not Trillions dead.
      So, no, I don't see them as powerful or great.

    • @ACEnBEAKY
      @ACEnBEAKY Před 6 lety +1

      At the same time,, though, a lot of the hard line Authoritarian "Centrists" in the New Republic were secretly First Order sympathizers or even agents, so even if part of the Republic's downfall can be blamed on their pacifists and libertarians (populists), a lot of the hard liners who would agree with you also did their part to set it up for failure.

      "They had ten years to prepare and they still were literally thrown out of the Core by Thrawn and Palpatine."
      I know who Thrawn is, jackass. Maybe you should read my replies before you call me retarded.
      Let me put it to you this way. It was because of Rommel that the Germans so brilliantly and swiftly slipped past the French defense and utterly threw the Allies off the continent. I do not care how brilliant a strategist is. If the defending country is unable to prepare accordingly when they were given ample time to do so, then they are not a great nor powerful nation.

    • @HamguyBacon
      @HamguyBacon Před 6 lety +2

      how about No, the Empire was great, even palpatine. I dont think he was evil, he just had grand goals he didn't care what happens along the way. for example building the deathstars. why would you build a weapon capable of destroying entire planets for an enemy that doesn't even control one. it makes no sense. unless there is a far bigger threat he was anticipating in the future. he didn't even consider the republic a threat.
      The Empire got rid of slavery, incompetent leaders, and got rid of the Jedi who were too backwards and warlike to do anything right, The Republic was trying to resist this basically siding with slavers and evil doers.

    I just realized the galactic empire is just like the real life Japanese empire. Think about it, both started out as democratic nations that fell under the control of a ultranationalistic military government that killed any opposition and had a dream of a powerful, united East Asia. Both started out kicking serious ass until the battle of Midway (in the empire's case the battle of Yavin).
    And were ultimately defeated in a final stand of resistance (in Japan's case the battle of Okinawa and the Hiroshima and nagasaki bombings, the empire's case is Endor and Jekku). Now we just have to wait until a highly advanced Japanese mech army rises to achieve what it's predecessor did wrong.

    Really wish we got the New Republic fighting the First Order instead of another rebellion.....It's so dumb....If I wanted to see the Galactic Civil War again, I'd rewatch the original trilogy.
    That being said, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The lore behind it existing is that the Republic wasn't taking the threat of the First Order seriously, so Leia formed her own military, with support of a FEW concerned senators. Yet, the movie says the REPUBLIC (As in, the government itself) is supporting them, and they are friends...
    But anyway, I like to look at the glass half full and enjoy the new era as much as I can.....(A little hard to do xD) I like to think of the Resistance as an extension of the New Republic military, and the First Order as basically an evil rebellion. But what Snoke has to do with them, I HAVE NO IDEA.

      +DaGerminator hehe yea I really wanted to see something different... I wanted to see luke begin a new Jedi order, I wanted to see An outside threat larger than the Sith invade the galaxy. The problem with the force awakens is they almost skipped too far ahead in time. In order for us to care about something like Kylo and Hans relationship they have to actually build it up. But instead were dropped in the same place we started Leia is a part of a ragtag group of fighters. Han is off doing god knows what. There no progression no development just rehash.

    • @Ampwich
      @Ampwich Před 6 lety

      Exactly. Luke is back to square one, as the last Jedi. Han and Leia are back to what they used to do. Another rebel group. The Republic is once again destroyed. (For all we know, but hopefully not) And it wasn't even emotional since there was 0 development. Just bye bye Republic capital we never saw before now when it gets destroyed lol. Who knows, perhaps they will fix some of that in The Last Jedi? Here's to hoping!

    first of all, i dig this channel, i watch it in my spare time, and sometimes i hate that someone stepped in to tie the knots in the franchise, and sometimes i just take as... fun. i believe i'll regret this, especially because i'm watching an "old" video, but... this is the third video, in a row, which make me rewind several times to understand what was said. i noticed two reasons for this: the names are completly alien (no pun intended) to me, as i just saw all the movies, didn't read a line off-canon (some subtitles would resolve this); and sometimes the music track is loud, so i couldn't understand the word without some serious lip reading (like in 7:26, yeah sure i understand it in context and it is there, but... wat. come again? i didn't... wat). anyways, i respect and notice all the care in making these videos, thanks for the work!

    What i dont understand is why they set TFA up where it takes a TON of supplimental material just to make sense out of what is going on. This should have been explained better in the movie itself. When starkiller base shot its beam it thought the main planet it showed was Corusant. Nothing was shown or said to make u think otherwise.....just bad writing and bad execution of explination. I really hope these next 2 movies wont be so bad. I really hate JJ is coming back for the final film of the trilogy.

    The Rebelion defeated the Empire, then turned into The New Republic, and Leia was a senator but another politician... (I got lazy, so I skipped a bit) and he told the Senate that Leia was Vaders son (after the Empire told him) and she got kicked out of the Senate so she founded the Ressistance (A secret group of the New Republics Navy which was used in emergency situations).

    Awesome! I've wanted to read the Aftermath books since they started coming out, I just can't afford them. I got a small glimpse into the latter part of this narrative when I was given a copy of Cobalt Squadron as a gift (great book; you should read it if you haven't). While most of the story focuses on Rose Tico, adding depth to her character by showing the events she went through leading up to The Last Jedi, it did briefly cover how Leia secretly started the Resistance to gather intelligence on the First Order and their atrocities to win support within the New Republic so they could properly combat the threat. After watching this video, however, I want to read Aftermath even more! Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will gift me with those books next. Anyways, thanks for another amazing video!

    Weird theory that I thought up:
    Finn is actually Lando Calrissian's son. You see, after Lando destroyed the Death Star, and the Empire was pissed, naturally, so Inferno Squad was dispatched to kill Calrissian, but when they arrived and succeeded in killing Calrissian, they discovered he had a son, who naturally screamed his head off when he figured out his dad got shot. This caused Inferno squad to need to dispose of him, but Commander Versio, having a soul, would not allow the child to be killed. They were forced to take the child, and so they headed back to the Corvus. When they arrived back at command, Iden was reprimanded for her companion, but then the command saw the light. This was the future of the Empire, as nobody would join the ranks of the storm trooper corps anymore, they would abduct children and train them to be killers. This may seem crazy and far-fetched, but why not. It's likely Clarissian will be in the campaign since they already have his model in the game (Star Wars Battlefront 2), and this would tie up a major loose end.

    You see, JJ Abrams didn't know how to make a new Star Wars movie without making the good guys the underdogs and the bad guys a huge, menacing empire. So, the New Republic was inexplicably out of context until it all blew up. This, of course, because the Expanded Universe is apparently not good enough anymore. Where the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant explored new stories in new places with new themes and new characters, the Resistance and the First Order fall back into the exact same fucking archetypes, stories, characters, and even plot as before.

    Maybe they'll take queues from the EU and form the GALACTIC REPUBLIC , or the REPUBLIC ORDER lol
    in the same way the empire and new republic could be brought together, the only issue i see is because they did a time jump and Luke Leia and Han aren't going to be in any new films beyond these 3.. they can't have interesting after stories.
    The trick with the EU was that the major war got resolved and the stories moved onto minor conflicts for a long time and followed personal stories about the heroes we loved raising their children and the new jedi who became the next wave of characters to follow into the next big war.
    Disney awakens just fucked the pooch by having war follow war with no down time, no character stories that aren't spelled out, Leia and Han aren't a good couple and Han bails like a horrid husband that rough hansome smuggler girls went crazy for.. well he doesn't care enough to stay.
    Luke screws up, everyone in the republic screws up, its basically world war 2 but 5 years later because everyone didn't disarm from the first, its a major fuckup in story telling.
