  • The Mayor of LA County just asked everyone to stay home this week because this week will be the peak of infections. Out of respect for all the people in the medical field and all the people who have been infected with Covid 19 I decided to take a break from riding this week and do a review video.
I purchased the 1Up Quick Rack last year and love it. I previously owned a Kuat Nv2 which I loved but the 1Up in my opinion is much better. 1Up USA came out with a new rack this year called the "Equip D" this is the first time they have changed the model from the original over 10 years ago. The Equip D doesn't replace the Quick Rack, they still sell both and they are different. The Equip D has an upgraded ratchet system but it is also more expensive than the Quick Rack. I bought this rack the first week of March before Covid 19 reached America. I received the rack on March 19 which was the day that California banned dine in at restaurants. If I knew how much my restaurant would have been effected there is no way I would have bought this rack.
I wanted to go over both racks and give you my opinion on both so you can decide which rack is better for you. They are both solid racks and are 75% the same. They are both made of solid aluminum and made in the USA. They use the same hitch bar with anti wobble mechanism. The Equip D will be able to fit fat bike tires up to 4.5" where as the Quick Rack maximum is 3.1".
Things I like more on Quick Rack:
    1) There is a blue lever to open and close the rack which makes it easy to store. The Equip D requires you to screw down a bolt so this will be a hassle for me.
    2) The Quick Rack Hitch bar is about 2 inches shorter so I was able to get the bike rack closer to my bumper.
    3) The wheel spacing of the Quick Rack was 3.1" which fit my bikes a lot better, the Equip D is 4.5" wide so there is a lot of wiggle room, if the rack arm is not secured really tightly to the tire the bike can lean over more easily when I drive and hit a bump.
Things I like more on Equip D:
    1) The rack design is much better looking.
    2) The ratchet system to open and close the rack arms on the tires are much smoother than the Quick Rack.
    3) The ratchet system trigger is much easier to push than the little lever on the Quick Rack.
    4) The EZ Pull is probably my favorite feature of the Equip D it makes it so much easier to open and close the rack.
    5) The hitch lock connects across the hitch making it easier to unlock it with the key
    6) The hitch security cable is not a velcro strap
