I have been taking collagen off and on for a few years and it does make a difference. Recently I realized that my fingernails were breaking and splitting like when I was younger, and I had not been taking it for a while. I had run out of it and never replaced it, so I added it back into my daily regimen. It improves my skin’s appearance too, which is wonderful perk for someone like me (age 58). Not forgetting to buy it any more! I am sold on this stuff and made sure I got my dog more chews instead of treats, which are collagen for him too, which helps my dog (age 13) stay mobile as well. Great video JT!

The fingernail thing! YES! Lol. I've never been able to grown my nails to any real length throughout my life, which never really bothered me because I'm so clumsy they'd just end up being lethal weapons. When I switched to low carb, they began strengthening to the point where I actually had to clip them, rather than just tear them off. Then when I added a collagen supplement, they started to grow at what seemed to be double the speed they used to. Just for fun I decided to see how long I *could* grow them and I ended up with a full set of manicure-looking talons, just from filing the edges smooth every few days. Of course the clumsy factor meant that they really did become lethal (I scratched my face at least twice with them) and touch-typing became a nightmare, so I ended up clipping them all off again because I just wasn't comfortable having them that long. But it really was cool to see such a hugely noticeable effect from both switching to low-carb and then adding the collagen. It just sort of reinforced my belief that taking a collagen supplement would be beneficial and now I'll never stop taking it.

Vitamin A, also Kale shakes blended with distilled water, sea salt dash turmeric, ginger black pepper differently cinnamon, maybe a dash of nutmeg. You can add dab of can vanilla extract great for reducing inflammation. Make surekale is frozen first. I also add lemon which is a must to help prevent gallstones. But, you know all this your a keto coach. Turmeric is great for joint pain. ACV with water helps with digestion. We pretty much are what we digest. Have a great day.

I take this exact brand of collagen and swear by it also!!! I'm currently 66 years old and several years ago, I was having issues with walking and my joints. I didn't have a car and had to walk everywhere. I was in a lot of pain and my right knee would want to buckle on me without any warning and that scared me to death. Also I was no longer able to walk up or down stair due to this. I took them like a child...step up with one foot and then bring the other foot up. I honestly thought I would need one of those motorized wheel chairs! I don't know how I discovered Vital Proteins but I prayed about it and was led to this amazing product. Well, I no longer have any buckling of my knee, no more pain at all and I can take the stairs like a big girl now!!! I mean it is just incredible what this stuff has done for my joints. And if that wasn't enough, my hair, nails and my skin are incredible! The skin all over my entire body is just amazing! This stuff is incredible and I will never stop taking it. I take it daily...won't be without it and if I miss a few days, my joints will start to hurt and my knee will buckle so I know it really works! I would do a commercial for this stuff, lol! 😂

@@roses9339 The Mayo clinic says the recommended amount for vitamin C is 75 milligrams (mg) a day for women and 90 mg a day for men. They also suggest not taking more than 2000 (mg) per day.
Keto foods that are high in vitamin C include mustard greens, bell peppers, strawberries, brussels sprouts, broccoli, lemons and kale.
If you want to see a video I made on this you can find it here. czcams.com/video/ECO0tEXfAuI/video.html
The National Library of Medicine says the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for copper for adult men and women is 900 mcg/day (just under 1mg). “Keto/low carb” foods that contain copper include beef, liver, oysters, mushrooms, crab, sunflower seeds, turkey avocado and dark chocolate. Yum!
The RDA for zinc is 8mg for women and 11mg for men. You can get zinc in foods such as include meat, shellfish, eggs, dairy, nuts, seeds, some veggies have small amounts like green beans and kale. You can also get zinc from dark chocolate. Mmmmm chocolaaaaate.
My understanding is that there is not really a recommendation for how much silica we should consume but the FDA suggests not consuming more than 10-30 grams per day.
If you are eating a good amount of leafy greens you’ll be getting enough silica.
Basically, if you are your consuming whole foods with a little meat and preferably shellfish along with ample amounts of vegetables you should be getting good quantities of the above nutrients.
      Surprisingly many people don’t….

I’m 21 and I’ve been doing it for five months, my skin has never been this soft, my partner that I’ve been with for two years old me that my skin has never been more soft, and I agree with him because I’ve noticed the change too, it’s like touching baby skin. This stuff is a miracle worker. My hair grows very slowly still, but I have noticed a big difference in terms of my hair’s health, I only need to shampoo twice a week now because my hair is always so soft and healthy. I also agree trimming the nails is now very annoying because my nails have never grown so fast, I kind of wish it just made them stronger because I don’t like having long nails. Other than that I couldn’t be more satisfied, although I’m not sure how much change it does to joints because I’m not a very active person myself

It is always best to get your vitamin C from natural sources if you can. Other than that there isn't much difference. Either one should be fine in terms of collagen. Hope that helps.

My mom has been complaining of joint pain in the past few months and these last few weeks she's gotten worse, to the point that she had to use a cane today! I want her to see a Dr. about it but wanted her to try this powder in the meantime. I'm going straight to the store to buy it for her tomorrow. Hope it helps her with the pain. 🤞🏼

Hi Island Girl! I'm so glad you found this video and found it helpful. That makes me happy. Sorry to hear about your mom. Keep in mind it can take time to make a difference.
Also be sure that she is getting a good amount of vitamin C and zinc. Please also note that a low carb ketogenic diet can help tremendously with joint pain.
High amounts of sugar and carbs overtime can lead to inflammation which can be very painful in the joints. Just something to consider.
I used to take pain killers (ibuprofen) every day because of aches and pains. Going on a ketogenic diet changed all that...Adding in collagen has helped even more.
I'm certainly not a doctor so please don't consider anything I say as medical "advice". Just wanted to share a little more that may be helpful to you. I would still highly recommend seeing a doctor.
      Thanks again!

She had X rays done last week but everything looked normal, but the pain keeps getting worse and now it's all the way up to her waist. I'm hoping it's nothing serious, maybe a pinched nerve or something. I'm still going to keep giving it to her tho. I too, started taking it! I'm mixing mine with two scoops of PB Fit and lactose free milk and I love it! 😁

Taking this combination of all three types has given me seriously smooth plump skin, my hair which was thinking as I am premenopausal has gotten so much thicker including my thinning sides!! I just use half a scoop of all three of the different vital proteins and this combination works for me , my results are amazing I am 50 years old and barely have a wrinkle!! Your body needs those nutrients to produce collagen.

The granules are typically fairly fine. Trying to think of what to compare it to. A little smaller than almond flour or coconut flour? Larger than regular white flour something in that range. I wouldn't worry about the texture being "bigger" and clogging vessels. As you said it will pass through your digestive system (which will break it down) before entering the blood stream. Just make sure the brand you are using is "hydrolyzed" which makes if more absorbable.

What are your thoughts on green juices or green smoothies causing stomach distress?

    • @JTJaredTaylor
      @JTJaredTaylor  Před 2 lety +2

Some people can have stomach distress for sure. It can be caused by a sudden increase in fiber. If your gut bacteria isn't used to it you may experience bloating, pain, and even diarrhea.
Some people are sensitive to FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols) which are short-chain carbs that are harder for the small intestine to absorb which can also cause stomach distress. If you're adding (or the mix contains) a sweetener like sorbitol or mannitol that can also irritate your gut.
Long story short it can happen to some people. And some don't have any issues. If it's something you are dealing with, one thing to consider is to steam your greens instead. Use monkfruit or stevia (if you are adding a sweetener) instead of the others mentioned. Don't use foods that are significantly high in FODMAPs...
It can be a guessing game and process of elimination to figure it out.. but if you try a few of these things and you are still having issues it's always a good idea to seek out professional advice. I hope this helps.

Hey! A question: I have been diving into the world of collagen for a few days now and couldn’t even wrap my head around all sorts of different types.
I know that this brand has both extracted from beef and marine. I read everywhere that the marine collagen looks the closest to our collagen and therefore, will be better absorbed… is that true?, or will it work regardless - not needing marine at all.
Also, there seems to be 2 types of collagen: Native collagen, which is barely processed and broken down - and the broken-down version, I can’t remember the name. I saw that getting the Native collagen is better, because it has not been altered at all. You also need less of it, but… what is the catch? The body has more troubles absorbing it because it’s more intact? This version of Viral Proteins is not native, claiming the absorption is very good. Is that the difference?
    Thank you!!!!

    • @JTJaredTaylor
      @JTJaredTaylor  Před 2 lety +5

Hi AlwaysHorseLove, Great questions! I'm not a doctor or scientist but here's what I've learned while studying collagen for a little over a year now.
Yes, there are many different types of collagen. Some say 16 and others say there are 28. The 5 most common types in your body are I, II, III, V and X. Type I is by far the most abundant. (about 90%). Marine collagen has type 1 and YES it is thought to have a higher absorption rate and more bioavailability because particle size is smaller.
Some experts say to avoid marine collagen (supplements) because the quality of the source is not always the best. Others disagree. I think if the source is "wild caught" than you're probably just fine. But, perhaps it would be a better idea just to eat more fish.
I'm NOT saying marine collagen is BAD but I am suggesting that I personally would not consider it alone as the best collagen supplement option.
I don't believe that marine collagen being slightly more absorbable and more available makes enough difference to consider it above a bovine source.
Bovine collagen has both type I and type III. I personally believe it's better because you are getting two types of collagen in one supplement.
Yes type I is the most abundant but type III is also important.
The other option (perhaps the best option) would be to consider a multi-collagen supplement which has the most common collagen types. (mentioned above).
Here's one you could consider: czcams.com/video/2ez-ue1u2AU/video.html
Having said all that, I believe the term you are looking for is "hydrolyzed" meaning the collagen is broken down into "peptides" through the process of hydrolysis which makes the collagen easier to absorb.
Most experts agree that when looking for a collagen supplement "hydrolyzed" is the best way to go for that reason. I have never heard someone saying to choose "native" collagen in supplement form over "hydrolyzed".
Lastly, when considering collagen in general, I would strongly encourage you, myself and anyone else to focus on getting collagen from whole food sources first. As well as foods that support collagen production in the body. THEN consider supplementing if you feel you are falling short (like most of us do).
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
      Thank you!
      JT

    • @JTJaredTaylor
      @JTJaredTaylor  Před 2 lety +1

Hi Mary, No, it's not too early. That said, I don't think anyone "needs" supplements if the majority of the foods they eat are nutrient dense whole foods. I would encourage you to focus on that the most. Then you can supplement in areas that you may feel you are lacking. If you are happy with how you look and feel you are probably doing something right. You probably don't need to worry about taking collagen at this point. I hope that helps.

The version of vital proteins collagen that I've been getting from Costco here in the states, doesn't contain vitamin c either. If your diet already has good amounts of vitamin c, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you decide to supplement with vitamin c I would encourage you to consider a vitamin c "complex" not something that is only "ascorbic acid". @JTJaredTaylor  Před 2 lety +3

Hi Tanya! I'm not an expert but I've heard that the opposite is true. An article by the MD Anderson Cancer Center indicates that collagen is important for cancer prevention.
Here's a quote by Raghu Kalluri, M.D., Ph.D., chair of Cancer Biology. “Now, we understand that it is part of a cancer defensive strategy of the body. If we can better understand that strategy, even if it may be suboptimal, we can work to shore up our body’s natural defenses to have therapeutic impact.” Here's the article: bit.ly/3zIcCnQ
They were mainly referring to pancreatic cancer. (which runs in my family)
This article by the National Cancer Institute bit.ly/3N4wtka focuses on triple negative breast cancer. (the most aggressive form of breast cancer) talks about 2 different aspects of collagen. They suggest that collagen in a tumor can keep immune cells out but a lack of collagen can cause tumors to grow.
Here's and excerpt: The research also highlighted the multiple roles of collagen. Although collagen can keep immune cells out of tumors, studies have also suggested that the loss of collagen can allow tumors to grow more rapidly.
I think it's important to note that these studies are being done on existing tumors. When cancer is already present. They talk about the loss of collagen potentially allowing tumors to grow and not indicating that more collagen is cancer causing.
Everyone is different and will respond to different foods and supplements in different ways. As you can see it's not a straight forward answer but it seems to me that there is more information supporting the positive benefits of collagen than negative in general and specifically with regard to the topic of cancer.
As mentioned we are all different and of course its always best to talk to your doctor if you have questions or concerns about taking a supplement.
      Hope that helps.
