Thanks for the video.. i was stuck between the 2 and now i think I'm gonna go with Fox
Thanks for this honest review! Will be installing a kit on my Tundra soon.
This was a great video. Exactly what I imagine most customers take into consideration and/or struggle with. I'm calling you guys tomorrow to place my order.
The fox has both hi speed and low speed adjustability. I’ve researched all males of kits and watched as many tech videos as I can and I think the low speed adjustability would be incredible
Great video, I always wondered what the difference was. I’m not going out for the brand I’m going out for what’s best for me on and off road for my 2014 Ford Raptor! Thank you
Great intro video to this topic! Wish I had seen it before I bought - though wouldn't have changed the outcome - still would've gone Icon. I would agree with the Icon assessment - despite having no comparison to Fox, but general road feel is good (maybe ride quality a bit on the stiffer side), but when things got a bit squirrely when conditions weren't as ideal, they seemed very planted, in control, increasing driver confidence. I also happened to jump all over a sale Icon had, so it was a no brainer for me - put the Stage 5 on my 2018 F150.
Hello, where did you find the Icon sale at?
@Benicio Lyric yea, I have been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :D
Love my BDS 3.5" with the fox shocks on my Ranger!!
I have a 2017 regular cab, 2.7l, stock bumper and a three inch rake in the stance. If I want it dead level and I max out the adjustment to achieve this will the ride be stiff AF?
I need a set for a Nissan Np300. I mainly drive my truck on paved streets! Can you please tell me which is the setup I need?
how have the CV held up with the level kits and the regular 4x4 use? Such a hard choice lol im leaning to a halo 2.0 aluma 3" kit
If I ran the icon at 3 inches would I need any other supporting mods to keep my other suspension components from failing prematurely?
Had the Fox 2.0 on my 14 f150 and if you have a RTT and winch with after market bumpers it's a bit soft given the weight especially if your going off road. I'm switching to Icon or KING or FABTECH
Thanks for doing the review , not sure what way I am going yet but was good info
First. Big fan of your videos, website and prices!
great video ! hmm now wich ones to order for my 2011 f150
Are these an improvement over bilstein 5100s? I put them on my ram 1500 and it rides stiff as hell
What would be better for fast offroad like light baja type stuff?
What about some numbers? Like spring rates and valving? I got the Fox 2.5s on my Colorado. Not impressed. Too soft for my application.
Icon is what I’m getting for my tundra.. a icon 3 inch suspension lift don’t want nothing insane just something a little more aggressive for off-road use
David that's the best option in our opinion
Hey man I have a 2022 silverado 4wd, and im adding 35” tires, I dont really offroad, just for looks, and I know its not going to drive or feel great, so I wanted to ask what would you recommend more for just street use, the Icons or fox coilovers?
Do they have for GMC AT4 2020 3.0 diesel,
For all in one
Tow all day driving and off road
It’s already 2 inch lift all the best keep that or one Inch up that’s it
I've got a 2013 for with almost 100,000 miles. Its spent alot of time in mud on logging roads and dirt roads. Which would be better for me and how long will they last before needing replacing? Somehow my stock suspension has actually held up pretty good.
Any thoughts on the rough country vertex coilovers ?
Do you guys sell for the 2010 dodge ram 2500 4x4 8" lift?
Have you tried Bilstein 6112 on your 2014 F 150?
The coil on the Fox shock looks like it comes awfully close to closing up, would make for a harsh bump stop. I've always liked that the Eibach's on Icons have such an open wind to avoid that.
I would love to get some info on the tent mounted above the bed. That was a cool setup.
Kevin, you can learn all about our FSR rooftop tent set by clicking the link! czcams.com/video/SvCNnyco7vI/video.html or check out our overland build! czcams.com/video/SvCNnyco7vI/video.html
May i ask how do these Fox & Icon compare with the HaloLifts coilovers on a weekend warrior application? Halo's coilovers seem to be getting great reviews everywhere. Your answer will dictate what i buy from you. =)
Great informative video..
Thanks for sharing.
Are the newer 5th generation Forerunners running these 2 setups..
Thanks George! Give us a call for Forrunner options, we've got great similar setups available!
The problem i have with the icons is the top mount is weak and fails... I had a set crack. The cost is not much but the time to remove and adjust is a pain. I use to love icon. However, I can no longer recommend them. Personally, they should warranty anything if it fails, but they dont. I am planning to try king or fox next.
I had icon c.o system ,after 7 mos of regular road driving...front coilover starting to leak.i bought a fox coilovers factory race series, had it for 2 yrs now and no problem and still rides awesome.ICON is overpriced and quality aren't any good. Fox is way to go!
What about king? I notice y’all sell them on your website but don’t talk about them much. How would the icons match up vs the kings?
We haven't run a set of kings on our trucks before but we will be testing them on our 2018 F150 in the coming months, stay tuned for that review!
@@stage3motorsports video coming soon?
Vid was just in time. Making the fox purchase. Been in debate for a few weeks which one to purchase.
Awesome! You will love the Fox kit
I have a 2013 f150 what was the tire and rim size on the maroon truck I really liked that look. I am looking hard at the icon lift.
they are 17x8.5 and 315/70r17 learn more about this trucks setup in on our dedication build page in this link www.stage3motorsports.com/Stage-3s-2014-Tremor-Overland-Builds-Leveling-Wheels-Tires.html
It's interesting how you find icon more suitable for heavy off road use. Icon is a degressive shock Fox is a linear shock. If the same spring rate is used linear or progressive (king) shocks are more suitable for heavy off road use. Degressive shocks transmit more of the initial jolt of a bump through the body. Linear and progressive shocks have a more plush feel for daily driving and are more predictable with better overall traction.
But since the icon is stiffer and dampened more, it makes the icon more suitable for high speed off road use. Initially the fox is softer because it is progressive, and the icon is the same rate the whole way, so the fox would have less resistance. In total the icon will resist more than the fox. At least that’s my take. I think I got it
I think it’s because there is so much variability from maker to maker that things don’t necessarily add up to what you would expect.
@@kregadeth5562 the icon shocks are not dampening more than the fox shocks by being degressive. That's not how shocks work. The reason digressive shocks are not the better heavy off road shock is as velocity increases digressive shock dampening decreases. If you hit a hard bump and the initial pressure required to open the shim stack is not enough to control the body the shock has no control of the vehicle through the rest of the cycle to the bump stop. With a linear shock as velocity increases dampening increases at the same rate. With a progressive shock like king, radflow or ADS as velocity increases dampening increases at a higher rate. Digressive shocks are great for onroad use and mild offroad use there's less body roll in the corners but they hit a performance wall much faster
whats the intro song?
what system offers more travel
Hello, which kit is better for washboard roards and absorbing small rocky roads? Truck wont be a DD, so dont mind the on road feel. Want to be able to go fast and plushy on the small stuff?
Hey Cesar! If you're going to be moving at high speed's Icon are going to be the best options!
Hey guys I’m actually looking at the fox 4” coilovers because I just did a 4.5” zone lift on my truck
I actually have a ranch hand on my truck and want to get the height down atleast half an inch because it’s too high for me as it is in front
Hey man give us a call we can help you! 623-434-5277
Another think to think about, Icon says their kits won’t affect hauling or towing capacity. Haven’t looked into Fox so idk if they do or don’t, correct me if I’m wrong
neither of these kits affect the towing capacity, so you'll be good to go on the weekends no matter your choice!
I'm looking at one of these two options for my 2018 F-150 SuperCrew 5.0L 4x4. Most of my driving is on paved roads, would the Fox offer a more comfortable ride on pavement over the Icon, or vice versa?
If you had a gun to my head, I might lean to say Fox is a TAD smoother on road. You really can't go wrong with either brand honestly
Give a look at the HALO suspension systems too. I went with that for my 2018 F150 and am very happy with them. I do mostly street driving, but also do light 4x4 weekly and periodically some proper 4x4 that makes me and the truck work. I have zero complaints with the HALO system.
Interesting on the ride height out of box. Offtopic but are the Fox 2.0 coilovers more consistent out of box? The description explicitly says "pre-set at 2" where-as other coils don't make mention.
The Icons are pretty consistent at 2.25" out of the box, but with the Fox, we have had them come from the factory at stock height, and all the way up to 2". Its kind of a guessing game where Fox will set them at, but they can be lifted up to 2"
Appreciate it. Just doing a bit of due diligence and over-thinking everything, I'm sure my suspension shop could set it up easily.
Yes, I would definitely recommend having a shop adjust the ride height of your coilovers
Will there be a noticeable difference going from OEM shocks in a f150 to something like Fox? This is my first truck. Thanks.
Yes, especially if you choose to go with a 2.5 coilover
yes
I did not realize you were right around the corner. I am thinking the fox is the best option for me , what setup do you recommend for a 2014 2WD if price was not a factor for mostly road driving. Do you do installs too ?
Give us a call and we can help you build the best suspension set up for you! We do not do installs at our location, but can point you in the direction of some good shops in AZ. 623-434-5277
Just spoke with Mike , Thank you
What size lift did you do to level rear with icons?
2.5' of front lift will create a "dead level" look on your truck.
Looks like the cinders !
I wanna go with fox but my question is that can fox give me that 2.5” inch lift for the front ? Or am i gonna have tonadd a small spacer to it
I know it's late but the 2.5 fox coil overs will lift your vehicle 0-3"
Devon Daniel for sure its just because i been getting different answers everytime that it only gives 2” max
Thanks for reply!
I see downtown Williams
I’ve heard of the fox 2.0 coilovers squeaking? Did they ever fix that? I’m afraid to order a set and they squeak:/
Hi Kenny, unfortunately there's a risk over time any coilover squeaks, but from our experience your ears should be safe!
performance coilovers squeak, thats just the reality.
Mine squeak!
My Fox 2.0 squeak. And now they leak too.
How about a recommendation between the Fox 2.0 vs 2.5 for a street truck that see's pretty minimal offroading? Will one ride better on the road? I know the 2.5 is going to be better offroad.
nastystang113 honestly the differences of the on the road ride quality will be minimal, but the 2.5’s offer basically infinite adjustability so you can adjust for vehicle weight and the conditions you use your truck in better, and the 2.5’s will have better control and much less fade off road.
Fox use progressive damping, start soft and get progressively stiffer as you compress them. ICON are digressive valving, which means the harder you push them they are going to run out of tech. ICON aren't nearly as nice to drive on-road as you guys mentioned. I have absolutely regretted owning ICON products, not so with KING, and haven't owned Fox. If you are going to go hard off-road and you want the best ride on road get progressive damping, KING and FOX.
I’ve spent 7k on my icon stage 7 for Toyota tundra . What a garbage! It’s been 5 years and Suspention needs replacing its all rusted like 50 year old truck. Never ever again !
Fox is linear
@@icouch not a thing
High speed off road fox seems to be the way to go if you’re a rock crawler I can’t really give an opinion. Just look at what Baja winners are running... there is a reason you don’t see icon up there just my two cents for the high speed guys
We love hearing guys feedback thanks for your input Pierce!
what brand is that Ranch style front bumper?
It is made by Westin. Check it out here - www.stage3motorsports.com/57-92505-2009-2014-F150-Westin-HDX-Winch-Mount-Grille-Guard-Black.html
I already have the shocks but is there a way I can buy adjustable Remote Reservoir for the icons
Icon offers an adjustable front 2.5 coilover, yes. You already have the rear shocks?
Stage 3 Motorsports I have both front and rear just stage 1 but can you buy just the reservoir to upgrade my shocks
I believe you can send the stage 1 kit back to Icon for them to upgrade it to a reservoir kit. But the hassle and money spent on doing so would not out weigh the benefits. Re-valving needs to be done, as well as changing out the top hat. You would be better off selling your current setup and purchasing a new reservoir kit from Icon.
Any adjustable coilover that's got a price tag like these things should be set to customer specification before delivery. If that's not part of the deal, these things aren't worth paying for.
Do these reduce your ability to tow? Or payload?
They do not affect towing ability or payload
Big thanks to Mike at Stage3 for setting me up today with a set of Fox 2.5 w/DSC adjustments and Fox 2.0 rear shocks.
Thinking about the same set up, but debating if I should go with 2.5 in the rear as well. Have you felt the need to upgrade the rear to 2.5?
@@rhacem3 honestly I havent felt the need. I havent, nor plan on, jumped the truck. But have done some good high speed desert, mountain trail off roading, 50-60mph and the truck just ate up everything I threw at it. No bottoming out, just very planted and predictable. Best upgrade yet.
Whats up ebradley were you able to get 2.5” inch height with those fox 2.5?
yea fox level they ship at is a crap shoot, they say they ship at 2in but i got mine at 2.5 inches and settled down a little but still over 2in even tho they are the 2.0. i left it at what it was i like fuck taking this back out and compressing it
I can’t decide for my 14 GMC Sierra I want a soft ride
The fox setup will give you a comfy ride both on and off-road
Thank you
Don't forget ICON lifts come with lifetime FREE unlimited squeaks and leaks program. Then icon trys to blame on installation, It Takes 3 weeks to get them back plus you get the pleasure of getting a rental bill. Just go KINGS.
Price is high, ride is smooth, offroad is amazing.
Icon sucks. My truck had got them less than 2 years ago and the front end upper control arms have already been replaced and the rear shocks blew up when I went out in the desert for my 3rd time.
wow, we fortunately have never experienced those issues with any icon product, thanks for sharing your experiences!
Bilstein
Nice video, Im putting the Fox 2.5 on my 2017 F250 Platinum. Come check mine out
Icon or King... Fox is not that good for off road like rock crawling; they leak
Damn. How do you know that, you're an avid off roader? Asking for help because I do plan to take my truck offroad but nothing as extreme as rock crawling. Something durable for rural areas where we have dirt roads, flooded areas, the occasional off roading, and some bad roads with pot holes.
William Morales you might want to check out eibach pro truck shocks with the front spring
You sure about that? I had the icon coilover system for 7 mos, that junk starting to leak.bought a fox c.o and have it for 2 yrs now with no issue compare to icon.
@@deeznatzinyomouth3934 Sounds like luck of the draw, I ran Icon on my last vehicle for 5 years without an issue, in Australia with our severe corrugations. I fully plan to run them again on my current one. As for Fox, over here we only see it on Mall Crawlers, so really don't know how they hold up in comparison.
For the fox why couldn’t you just put a coil spacer on top of the spring or a leveling kit under it to make it more than 2 inches
A coil spring spacer would be useless when you can pre-load the spring with the coil spring collar. And running a strut spacer on top of the coilover unit would compromise droop travel. Both of these options can get 2.5" or 3" if you max out the preload on the spring
@@ShockSurplus So let me understand this correctly. I have a 2017 regular cab, 2.7l, stock bumper and a three inch rake in the stance. If I want it dead level and I max out the adjustment to achieve this will the ride be stiff AF?
@@Peter.D61 It doesn't change the spring rate, it just takes away your down travel, it will ride the same, but won't handle as well over bumps, so if you're just mall crawling, it won't make a difference, but if you want it to both be level and work off road, you'll have to lower the rear, the rake is there so that it sits level with a load in the back.
I would no recommend icon system. I did have 35k miles on it. No offroading and the coil snapped. Horrible quality
Thanks for sharing your unfortunate experience, while for some users this is an incredible kit some users don't have the same pleasurable experience it's great to hear both sides!
Will add tho they are warranting it. So hopefully they send two news ones so I don’t got one that has 35k miles and one brand new. Customer service part has been great with icon
@@iinastyii1 That's great to hear!
You guys bring up some good points, but it’s obvious you guys really don’t know that much about suspensions. This video is mostly based on observations/opinions and not actual knowledge.
...and so are you a observation and opinion genius now? Lmao!
interesting opinion on your observation.. but you obviously don't know much about content creation
With rezzy??? How gay was that
Icons rust badly. Not good in coastal environments.
What part rusts? They're made of aluminium.
@@tareskisloki8579 the shaft that plunges through the seals, causing leaks.
@@cryptotroll1232 I guess they need constant exposure for that to happen, my last set were used on the beach at least once a fortnight for 5yrs with no sign of corrosion, although I did have an electronic rust prevention device fitted.
Taresk Isloki interesting. I had terrible luck with them. Had to rebuild them every year with only a few offroad sessions per year. They always developed leaks prematurely. Noticed corrosion seemed to be the problem.
@@cryptotroll1232 I'm actually really grateful that I had no issues, because I'm in Australia, and at the time there was nobody here that could have serviced them, so any problem would have required shipping them to the states. (Very different now as we have plenty of local service options).
