I really dig your channel and I think you deserve more recognition! What state are you scouting in?

So when you are scouting, do you just look for trails and follow them or do you have specific spots you are looking at every time you go out?

I’m typically starting at/near a known food source (ag field, etc) and trying to back track that to their bedding area(s). I usually get ADD and start wondering a bit once I hit some good sign though. That’s the beauty of using OnX Hunt. I can review all of my scouting when I get home and put some additional patterns together.

@@NextStepOutdoors what do you do if you are having trouble even finding a food source, say without any ag around?

In situations like that, I try to find places where multiple habitat types come together. A lot of time you can see that on the map if you are looking at a satellite view. That will give you a good starting point and typically there will be both good natural food sources and bedding. Could be an oak flat adjacent to a marsh or a patch of red ozier dogwood in a low spot on the edge of an over grown pasture. Just need a starting point tho and if you can get into some good deer sign, hopefully you can follow it to either find additional food sources or bedding areas.
