  • Scouting some public land in northern Wisconsin for deer. Early spring is a great time to scout the woods because the previous year's sign is still visible.

    Happy Spring Sam and Garrett !!! Thanks for posting the video up. I've been out scouting also for the first time ever, prior to this year I've always went in blind or just "overhunted" public spots that i was already familiar with... hoping for a "best season ever" for 2021-2022.

    Thanks BH15, always like your stuff because you teach about scouting and think out your spots. We all get excited about sign, but what does that sign tell us? You seem to take your time and formulate a plan including time of season, entrance/wind, directions(probable) of travel....Great job.

    Excellent job but that looks like no northern Wisconsin woods that I bowhunted for the past 40+ years-way too wide open. Also, where I hunted in Price, Taylor and Lincoln Counties rarely did one find an oak tree and way more swamps. We moved from WI this past June(too cold and too much snow for 70+ year olds to endure.

      Me to. This is typical public land in WI. Dan Infalt recently did a hill country scouting video in WI and it was the same thing... stands all over on public in WI. Seems like the DNR either doesn’t care or doesn’t have the resources to follow up on it.

    Great video , I was wondering if you incorporate trail cameras on any of that public land ? Or do you just check back on the best spots right before season to see what looks best ? Thanks

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  Před 3 lety +2

      I utilize cameras. Some of the areas that are more off the beaten path, I can learn a lot by letting them soak, and they're good for inventory. But the boots on the ground is still important to know where to put the cameras and also connect the dots. I will check areas that are closer to human activity and scout during season quite a bit for big tracks or rubs. So the cameras and the in season scouting compliment one another.

      I'm using the Core Lightweight hoody. I use it as a pretty versatile layer for turkey and most of the entire deer season as a next to skin also.

  • @toddlustine983
    @toddlustine983 Před 3 lety

    Question for you Garrett. At that 2nd spot, is it possible that the lack of rut sign from last year could've been as a result of clear cutting/logging activity happening actually near or during the rutting season? Perhaps, with lack of such human activity in Oct/Nov 2021, the big boys would be back? Thanks for considering my question.

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  Před 3 lety +1

      Yea it's possible. They don't seem to be bothered too much by heavy machinery once it's been out there working for a while and they're used to it. They could temporarily shift, though habitat change would be a stronger driver for them to move. Looking at the area though, it seems odd that they'd just abandon it completely so I'd imagine they'll still use it in the future.

      Yes. I still have the One R but may sell it. I like the OneX2 better. You can get the external audio/charge adapter and you have the option of the single lens mode where you don't need to stitch the footage. Just drag and drop the file onto a timeline like any other camera which is nice when you don't need the full 360

      I usually use the Studio to keyframe and export mp4 files. It seems like the playback is a little choppy when I take them straight to premiere. Insta Studio seems to do a better job at leveraging the graphics card.
