- Dining on a Dime heads to beautiful Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for its record-breaking 12th season (What record, exactly? We’ll never tell!). Host Lucas Peterson’s first stop on his tour through the City of Brotherly Love is in the heart of South Philadelphia, a.k.a South Philly, to a casual, cafeteria-style Indonesian restaurant that’s cooking up favorites of the Southeast Asian archipelago like rendang and satay.

i really appreciate when lucas said, "you cannot define Indonesia with one food only cause they have so many cultures". :)
Visiting Indonesia at least 2 times a year, that looks very very authentic! The eggplants, rendang... damn, I need them now! good to know that the people in the area are enjoying Indonesian food!
Ernest Kwok look my chanel i have a lot of indonesian cuisine ...
Ernest Kwok lucky you ^^
ini mah warteg tapi ada satenya lol
Eggplant ? you mean Terong Balado hehe
Fahlevi Andika what?
basically it's a warteg
roolee2k In fancy ways

Very authentic though, really similiar to the wartegs here 😀
Yesss, the authentic warteg
and Warung makan Padang combine
"local aunty" is her description lmao
Hahahahaha😂😂😂😂😂
I agree with the words "Very complicated cuisine" because if you look at the recipes, there are so many ingredients and spices that Indonesian use in their cuisines. What a beautiful food culture
I'm Indonesian, and we actually still use spoon for wet mushy food like that lol..
you don't have to force yourself eat with your bare hand if it makes you uncomfortable..
we just prefer to use our hands because it's more easier and more satisfying, rather than being pricky with knife and spoon..
Lemah
true, the lady should tell Lucas that but she didn't.
it was awkward and pretty disappointing on her part.

Welcome to Indonesian
Woww Indonesian restaurant managed to stay open in US for 17 years? I certainly didnt expect that. So Americans like Indonesian food as well thats good to know :)
That whole neighborhood is heavily Asian influenced with a lot of Indonesians living close by, so I'm sure that's part of the reason why it's been open so long. And it's just good food :)
first name surname lets not forget, till last 2 years, her mother managed to stay as a caterer for Indonesian embassy in NY.
Theres many Indo in Phily, more than any other city. Sky cafe is most popular for indonesian.
BelacanBreed it’s not embassy, to be correct it’s indonesian consulate general
wow satay madura in Philadelphia! interesting!!
I'm happy
love sate meduro 😋😋😋😋
satay :v
God, I love Indonesian food. Every time I'm in Amsterdam I'm enjoying the fact that it's full of great Indonesian restaurants
I love rendang and unlike nasi goreng in Indonesia
As an Indonesian “husband” in the netherlands I totally agree: different styles, but totally authentic. Created an extra spicy version of satay myself 😊
i feel so lucky now, i can walk literally 100 meters and find sate madura

Haning Nugrahadi i agreed 😊 kinda upsetting seeing channel like INSIDER said that papeda is indonesian staple food 😑
@@fitrianggraeni8435 THEY DID WHAT!?
@@fitrianggraeni8435 this statement is kinda offensive to some extend
@@rizkylibertysiajaya1354 typical insider, never done they're research
@@RSK11X First, I'm Indonesian, from the middle part of Indonesia. And what I meant by saying that is borderline offensive is the tone it sets, it gives out ambiguous perspectives, they are "it's sad that the channel is understudying the matter" and "telling that papeda is consumed by ALL Indonesian daily". The second statement is definitely negative to some extend. Btw, "typical insider"? and also do you mean their instead of they're?
I met Lucas the morning of this taping he came to my Starbucks! Sooo cool!
"There's nothing deep or profound to say about a corn fritter", well thank goodness, too many reviewers try way too hard to find something interesting to say about the mundane. I like this reviewer!
Pocket Universe sadly true..
Yeah corn fritter commonly is just so-so. But i know a sweet spicy corn fritter some where in my hometown. So it depends on the type of corn and recipe that you use.
Yeah, I'm Indonesian.
But no matter how good a fritter is, it just a fritter.
Apasi corn fritter? Bakwan/weci?
Bakwan jagung
I'm Indonesian and been living in Philly in the early mid 90's.. And there's no Indonesian restaurant in Philly at that times (there's one I remembered in near Bedford,PA).. But luckily our communities (mostly students) liked to held an events, and there would be lots of Indonesian food available..

Riza Iskandar okay...
Always love to see an authentic Indonesian restaurant that attracts locals! Wish the best of luck for Warung Nasi Hardena in Philly! ! For the host, there are no tomatoes in Rendang!
FYI, there are at least 5 types of beef rendang recipe in Indonesia, what captured in this video is Javanese soupy beef rendang. There is also Javanese dried rendang, which to westeners will appear as rendang steak or jerky. The signature of Javanese will be the sweeter. Then the famous Padang (West Sumatera) rendang, a soupy and drier one. Signature of Padang beef rendang is the spiciness and heat (as in a lot of chilly). Then there is Medanese beef rendang, which has thick soupy spices and coconut milk reduction.
Rendang is the one from West Sumatra.
No, there is only one type of rendang. It's from West Sumatera
@@wieggywoggy6671 he said recipe, obv the original rendang is from west sumatra.
@@alfonsor.4161 Then it's not called rendang
@@hehenejiwe call it renjav ? 😂 i think its still rendang, just with javanese taste
Local aunty wanting sate before she fly to Toronto is a big mood
Come to Southern California. We have a lot of Indonesian restaurants here! Also, Rendang is usually cooked for HOURS! That’s why the sauce is so thick!
hebat bgt mba ngejalanin warung makan disana. sukses terus!
A really great review. I think this is what people who had done their research before then doing the review looks like. Very informative
glad to see another one of this kind of video, and of course glad to see you enjoy indonesian cuisine
My mouth is watering after watching this video...
Thank you lucas, you're the best..
Hey thanks for covering about Indonesian food, love your channel awesome 😍😘
awesome guy! even more so that you're giving youtube a taste of indo, always happy to support my motherland
I've been to Indonesia before the cuisine was mind blowing there 👍
More Philly plz!! 😋
Wow all the food look delicious and definitely very authentic, plus they are generous with the portion too. No wonder it becomes a local favorite for over a decade. Thank you Mbak Diana and family for sticking to the original recipes and cooking process, semoga selalu sukses!
I'm stranded in Thailand because of Covid, watching this make me miss my mom cooking even more. Kangen sambal matah Bali, masakan Padang. Eating at the Embassy did not satisfy my craving.
huwow... looks very yummy delicious to the max!
Bang budi ada dimana²😂
I'm indonesian, and i'll say, that was the biggest meat i've ever seen on a sate. We indonesian most of the time not having those big meat on our sate, more like a small ones like a thumb size meat on the scewers, but i think that size is to compensate the western type of barbeque style of meat. Looks good make me want to go their and got me a one plate of those sate!
Klo di indo itu sate segede gitu bisa 30rb bang seporsi 😂
Yang gituan adanya di kondangan doang. Gaada yg jual gituan di jalanan

I truly wish I'd known you were in Philly Mr. Peterson! I not only would have bought you a beer, but also would have LOVED to talk to you about many foodie things you may not have known but would like. In any case, glad you've enjoyed the City!
Ez content about indonesian food, ez tranding. Ez lyfe on youtube. Cuz I know there will be a LOT of Indonesian people are watching this video right now.
Rhesa Kurnia Suganda when a small country like us get featured in the US thats a big thing mate
Saw on the menu they serve *_rijsttafel._* Would have been cool to see how they presented that. Only had it once in Amsterdam. Lucas eating delicious looking food with his fingers is the perfect episode for him.
Im so proud of them, to spread the culinary beauties of indonesia lots of love all the way from indonesia ❤❤
Nice explanation about the country and the food.
You should try sate Padang, sate Klathak (Yogyakarta), sate lilit (Bali), sate Maranggi. Believe me, you can't go wrong with these sate. Wonderful taste on every bites!
someday u should come to Indonesia
That looks so appetizing
So my dad is born in Indonesia and I'm from the Netherlands and it so great to see how my culture stays the same all over the world. I was so surprised to see "rijsttafel" on the menu. I thought we only called it like that here in the Netherlands. Great video!
I see indonesian food, I click...

Its cool how lucas can described the taste.
Love the videos
Lucas might've found it hard to eat the rice with hand cuz the owner didn't properly tell him how! Anyway, great video.. Tbh those satays are way bigger than the regular ones in here and the peanut sauce looks less chunkier, more like satay padang. Hats off to Lucas for getting a hands-on to Indonesian cuisine! :)
in Jakarta, even if you wanted to wash your hand after meals, you can use your own tea that you ordered to drink ... trust me 😁
Eka Widodo I CAN RELATE BRO LMFAO
My friends and I went there last year!!! It was so delicious!!!
Lucas, you definitely have to go to Indonesia. Please make a season of dining on a dime in Indonesia. There are sooo many delicious food here.
finally Indonesian food on eater channel!
"What kind of style of food your people made?"
Indonesian: "Yes."
Great vid!
glad you finally tried Indonesian cuisines, Lucas!
It's probably good there but it just hits different when it's from some sweaty guy that randomly showed up on your street at 11:30PM. Bonus points if he never shows up again.
You should try sate matang pak leh, made in Aceh
Was about to say that
it's not available in the US. he's talking about Indonesian foods that's available in the US or philly specifically.
Sate matang emg mantapp
Love it Lucas, this one also my favourite kind of sate!

wow lucas, as an indonesian i can see that you make a deep research on every videos. wow just wow, amazing
ughhh finally Indonesian food! big fan here from Indonesia! keep up the good work Lucas
Oh come onn!! Surely rendang deserves so much more reaction that THAT.
And also you should suck your finger tips first before you deep it in the water to wash it off. All those grease won't come off with a mere water, it needs soap if not saliva hahaha (learned this when I stayed in sumatera barat for two months)
'Put indonesia in your title'

love the shirt and the content you put out... wished that some of your videos were longer... especially this one :D
This food looks so good. I'll try to get some when I visit Philly in December. Also, Lucas with glasses is cute af.
The color of beef rendang tells me couple things are missing...

Lukas! You must pronounce the S at the end of kicap manis. Now it sounds really really wrong!

ariean rachmat exactly! I mean i wouldn't usually be so critical because he doesn't speak malay or indonesian, but hearing “sperm soy sauce” being said, I just couldn't stop laughing.

Yes... Sate one of my Favorite
i’ve been here! the food is all really good and worth a visit
honestly u wont find sate that big on the streets in indonesia.. they always make it so small like one bite per skewer cause you can grill it a lot faster and get charred easier
Fair enough since the price in Indonesia is usually less than $1
@@haydid not in Jakarta. Even chicken satay more than $1. But the sate Madura here is big and looks like all meat maybe.
Not Canada, Toronto!
yes! they are totally different, don't you know that being on the internet! shame on you !
00:06:48 Your knowledge bout Indonesia, truly amaze me. Especially when you enjoyin my kinda daily food, like Sayur Daun SIngkong and Terong Balado. I hope I can sit and dine with you someday, Lucas :)
There’s also Sate Padang, with its strong flavors and hint of spiciness, makes you wanna crave more of it
And i like how the reviewer said the cuisine cannot be described in just one, as it’s a complete set of different cultures and tradition
Sate Padang is the best kind of Indonesian skewer. :)
Antonius Raja gue gak doyan malah sate padang kkkkk 😄😄.
KOBOKAN👊
even the vibe's very much Indonesian
"...evolve separately but together...", that's brilliantly put.
Love the shirt!
im more of a sate padang kind of guy
chuddy warrior YES BRO YESS!!!

I prefer satay ponorogo
There is nothing good in sate Padang lmao
Eating with your bare hands DOES make the food tastes better. Trust me I'm Indonesian wkwkwk.

It does when you live in america 😂
Wkwkwk
Ngl the food looks amazing, props to the restaurant for bringing authenticity of Indonesian dishes.
I remember visit this warung when I was in Philly!! 😋😋😋
In his videos he's usually bubbly and hyperactive. A little serious and under the weather today? East coast weather would do that to you, if show is not pre taped.
He was fine in NYC...
He seemed fine to me.
Of course it's "pre taped", it's not a live stream.
ayo I don't know why I wrote that. Wasn't what I meant. I'm used to watching vlogs that upload same day or week. 🤣😂

Elmas Agung yes bakso, americans need to try bakso with kerupuk putih and balinese food aswell they will.be tempted to visit indonesia after that
Kadang saya gak tega lihat harga nasi pecel di kotaku, hanya 3 rb perbungkus, kasihan yg bikin...
3 rb rupiah = 0.22 $
Sate disini 12rb seporsi, disana 12dolar cuk gileee
Jangan dibedakan.
Yeaaaaaay thank you
those satay look amazing
