  • What is anticipatory grief?Julia Samuel, psychotherapist, author, and podcaster is here to unravel the complexities. Anticipatory grief hits when you receive bad news-whether a health diagnosis or the end of a relationship-altering your present and future expectations.
Often linked only to death, we need to legitimise feelings of anticipatory grief from living losses. Blocking pain with denial or busyness harms us; emotions are signals to navigate life changes. Coping strategies involve facing the pain, cultivating loss orientation, and balancing restorative practices, hope, and gratitude.
Fear is a strong emotion in anticipatory grief, and exercise becomes a powerful ally. Learn to manage anxiety by intentionally redirecting attention and soothing yourself. Addressing community questions, including the loss of a beloved pet or preparing for a parent's future, reveals the importance of normalising feelings and making memories.

This phase of life has so much loss. Grateful though, just not very motivated either. I am doing somethings, and grateful. I’ll be glad when I’m feeling more carefree and happy. Physical pain is rough to live with, and that’s changed myself a lot. Geez, Louise… give myself a mental break. 😮🙏🏽💜Thank you Ladies.

Thank you for having Julia on your channel. Through the five years of my wife’s FTD diagnosis I lost the lady I loved. Then fell in love again with a different lady. Almost feels like I lost her twice.❤️‍🩹
