    Thanks for the good info. I was hitting my head on the rim in the 90s and early 2000s before I hurt my knee. I can still dunk at 42 but am nowhere near as explosive as I used to be since I also broke my back in 2007. I’m finally getting spinal fusion next month and once I’m fully cleared to workout again I plan on buying your program. My new goal is to be able to dunk at 50!

      Plyos are mainly icing on the cake. Is is advised to squat 1,5x to 2x your bodyweight to have strong enough tendons for them. The biggest focus for jumping higher for majority of ppl is to get your squat high relatively to your bodyweight and jump atleast twice a week. You want to be fresh for your jump sessions to get the most of them.

  • @joshuarwilliquette
    @joshuarwilliquette Před rokem +1

    Had an elbow surgery a month back, haven't been able to hoop but I've been hitting legs and supersetting 3-4 sets of explosive quarter squats with plyos since the surgery... Yesterday I went to jump up and grab my friends rim and my vertical seemed mostly the same... Granted, I had went on a run earlier that day and may have been a bit fatigued but still, I thought that the sheer volume and intensity of, literal, legwork that I've been putting in would yield a noticeable difference in vertical when I came back, particularly because most of the vert training I did before my surgery was all plyos and dunk attempts as opposed to strength training, but it didn't feel much different.
    Anyway, I say this to emphasize the importance of the law of specificity, maybe the strength training I'm doing now will prove to be helpful when I can start hooping again, but strength training and plyos alone don't seem to do much.
    Thanks for your content by the way, when I finally dunk I'll have to give you partial credit lmao.

It's about to be summer before my senior year and my vert is about 36 inches and 6'1, I'm currently on a free vert program. But I have to ask how you recommend I learn new dunks, do I look up tutorials or just keep on trying on lower rims or what. One factor that's messing me up is I tend to get tired when trying to learn a dunk, and I'm trying to learn to 360 also and I get dizzy and almost lost in the air. Sorry I kind of just splurged about different things, but if you can give some tips on anything I'd appreciate it SO much.

    Tips on knee pain on my penultimate leg, feels like PFP? The pain is specifically from the landing on my heel for the penultimate, I think cuz that motion sends all the force to my knee. If I jump rope, do depth jumps, sprint…basically do things where I land on my toes, I have no pain since my ankle takes a lot of the force absorption.

      it helps adoption and endurance but u dont train enough force output... its not specificly building towards max output. its ebdurance vs hight. ... jump.roping barefoot or in minimalist shoes can help the foot. aka heal taps on those can up to a point, strengthen the shins. but other than that. u need to train for peak output. and it wont do that.... its the difference between marathon running and sprinting.... u need to sprint... u arent sprinting.... u are marathon running. barwfoot dunking is kinda like making u be less suported. that can negatively impact dunk performance... padding helps u to have lesser stress on the tendents. but if they are strong enough... thou more padding just alows for more frequency couse tendents are lesser the issue... thats why i use those shoes outside of dunking.. i dont dunk a lot so for one day out of the week. i try to increas my hight but i am not that interested so i am not optimised and thus much slower at it.... wich is the tradeoff... and if u do it frequent. u need to manage load... u can get more jumps at the same intensity. or the same jumps at that intensity if u have padding

    • @selda2528
      @selda2528 Před rokem

      also. low intensity. short time jumproping for bloodflow... sometimes. 6 times. hell no. jumproping adiionaly after dunking can increase tendents. but dunking often is enough. thou it can help to do it low intensity 2 x a week is what i found.. as foot strengthening exercise.. not as dunking.. and u could as easily do death drops in the gym...also if u get to strong. jump roping wont do shiz... so no... u can also not just be a dunker and sacrefice some gains there. but... its up to u

    • @selda2528
      @selda2528 Před rokem

      at that point it becomes like walking.. just deconjesting the foot with lower stressing stuff.. but yea.. its ... a thing.. u can either find apropriate levled foot strengthening exercises or do deconjesting low stress stuff.. jump rope can be both.. and to get footstrengthening out of jump rope.... u either have to be weak or u have to do it weighted with weight vest or u use barefoot shoes .. or both.. but yea... or u use jump rope to deconjest with low impact stuff to get bloodflow and all.. but yea.... not as your main training stuff

      @@TENZER_ON_DA_BEAT_GOIN_BRAZY You kinda just gotta manage the pain until your growth plates fuse at 16-17 years old. For most people it starts to heal and desensitizes at around that time aswell. I had sinding larsen, instead of the bump on the tibia it was on my kneecap and it took until I was 18 for it to fully heal. Im not sure if theres any other way to get rid of it without resting/ managing it or just letting your bones mature. I tried some physical therapy but it didnt help that much.

      @@rapzombie5720 Thanks a lot. If you got thru it can you tell me if the pain after basketball is ok if it s managable or does it mean that the tibial tuberosity rips apart more and more and it ll lead to an avulsion fracture?

      @rapzombie5720 Před rokem

      @@TENZER_ON_DA_BEAT_GOIN_BRAZY try keep pain at or under a 3 out of 10. I'm not an expert on avulsion fractures so I'm not sure but Osgood shlatters happens from your tendon tugging on your bone too hard because its tight from growing and your bone is weak from growing. It's safe just to keep pain as low as possible until your body matures. My guess is it wont lead to a avulsion fracture as long as peak forces dont exceed your limit. You could try some type of physical therapy like isometrics or slow lifting if it doesnt aggravate it. When I had sinding larsen I wasnt really worried about an avulsion fracture but for some reason it caused my knee to suffer from horrible tendinipathy, my whole tendon was diseased and my main worry rupturing or tearing my tendon. I wasnt sure if I would ever recover but I somehow did over 3-4 years later. I am now doing vertical jump training so there you go.
