    Go to Prague and visit the church. It's an eerie, humbling experience to be in the very crypt where those brave men died. The scars from the final battle are evident inside and outside the church.

      @@AFNF415 yes they do. there is a museum outside the crypt, but the crypt is how it looked years ago, except for simple memorials for the fallen. I was there last week and actually had the crypt to myself for about 30 seconds. Intense and emotional.

      @@michealmcdaid7027 I was there a few days back. It knocked me for six and i am still processing what I saw. The guy on the desk - Karel Kos I think he name was - saw that I was a bit more attentive than the other visitors: he gave me a little tour, using a mixture of Czech, Russian and English, showing me the trap door to the crypt which is now under the carpet in front of the altar. Afterwards I nipped across the street to the pub called "The Parachutist". I needed somewhere to sit, think and drink after seeing what I had seen.

      @misskeisha4820 Před 3 lety +39

      Steinstra 1961 Yes it was! I know the cost was bad, but if they wouldn’t have done the assasination, then Great Britain would not even consider Czechoslovakia as an alliance. Untill the killing of the innocent people in the village (which was very well documented by the Nazis) the other countries didn’t even know how bad the acting towards Czechoslovakian people really was. And also Heydrich was the iniciator of the “Jewish question” and he was planning to do something similar with Czechoslovakian people. So, yes, i think it was worth it, because i probably wouldn’t be here today.

    I know not many people saw this in theaters, but I did and I can tell you the atmosphere in the room after this scene and the ending was unlike anything I've ever felt before. Not a single person moved from their seats when the credits rolled. Its as if everyone no longer knew what to do with themselves and were staying seated to show respect. It took one person standing up nearly 45 seconds later before people VERY slowly started standing up and leaving. I'll remember it for the rest of my life.

      This also brings in to question soldiering in general. Is it suicide to join the military knowing that you can be killed? I think not so this principle may still apply to men who actively kill or call their friends to kill themselves.

    These guys were special. Their bravery and their attitude towards their mission cannot be in question here. The same goes for almost all soldiers that fought,died or survived through this war . I'm very proud to have had both grandfather's that fought ,helped the world and done their country (and family very proud) . These brave men and women were cut from different cloth and should never be forgotten ❤

    Such a difficult period of history. We all sometimes have hero fantasies about what we may have done in the same situation, but you can't really say for sure without actually being there, and having the lives of your entire family on the line. Bravery and commitment on a level that most of us will never truly grasp or understand. And that goes for all resistance groups throughout Europe, the Balkans and the Eastern front, who stood up to Nazi terror.

    The six brave Czechs and the Slovak who died in this shootout and gave their lives to take out the worst man (historians agree on this - Heydrich was a darker figure than Hitler) in one of history's darkest regimes showed enormous bravery. The rest of those men didn't have to go into that church with Gabcik and Kubis, but they did, knowing they would die to the last man anyway.
    Often overlooked is the bravery displayed by the Orthodox bishop of the Orthodox Church in Czechoslovakia afterwards. In an effort to reduce the vengeful Nazi response to Heydrich's death, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorazd_(Pavl%C3%ADk) Bishop Gorazd wrote to the Nazis taking responsibility for the actions of the men in the church. He was imprisoned, tortured and executed in June 1942. He was canonized in 1961.

      Curda was apprehended after the war and executed for high treason for selling out his comrades, if it’s any consolation.

    • @Mithrandir1983
      @Mithrandir1983 Před 2 lety +1

      His family is not responsible for whatever treachery he comitted. It´s all matter of his choice. And what the movie does not tell, there were at least two traitors - Curda and Gerik. Both betrayed their fellow warriors and both were rightfully sentenced to pay the highest price for their treachery.

      you should watch the czechoslovak 1964 movie The Assasination. It is even more accurate. They even do not use their real names but their cover names. Also the movie begins in England and show some moments of Heydrich himself.
      On the other hand there is a scene where Heydrich puts the crown of Saint Wenceslas on his head which is only a myth (according to legend if a person other than czech king puts the crown on his head, he or she will die in less than a year).
