Obviously it's not everyone but there's something I love about all these affordable packs that have come out since Spirits first plastic one with lights is that most of the GB fandom and just prop guys in general love them. Happy to mod them. Happy for fans who are now able to own their own since they were too expensive before. Instead of elitism it's just a lot of folks enjoying something cool that used to be gated out by cost or skill. Over the years the money I put into two spirit packs, the Haslab, and now this new Spirit pack, I probably could have bought an ok replica online. Instead I get a small collection of packs and had some fun modifying a couple. They may not be 100% screen accurate, but they're my packs. Whereas years ago I never thought I'd even have one. Enjoy your packs everyone and never stop bustin.

I totally agree. One of the most important/relatable aspects of "The Ghostbusters" is the fact that the "every man" can be a buster. I understand that the technology was designed and devised by scientists but anyone can pick up the gear and entrap ghosts. That was one of the reasons for Ernie Hudson's character "Winston Zeddamore". He was the guy hired off the street to do a job.
The simple fact that anyone can afford to dress up as a realistic "Ghostbuster" is a dream come true. This is the most important part of the new pack to me. Within $500 you can be an almost screen accurate Ghostbuster (Between pack, costume and trap) This makes the costume more relatable and obtainable.

Awesome video. Already have the Hasbro pack but couldn't pass up Spirit's great deal. FYI I'm a fire fighter as well. The whole reason I chose this career was.... Ghostbusters. Who else gets to slide down a pole, suit up and put on a pack... ride lights and sirens and gets to shoot a stream!

  • @Webhead123
    @Webhead123 Před rokem +6

I agree...the idea that today's Ghostbusters fan can get a full-sized, well-detailed proton pack with lights and sounds off-the-shelf for $250 is pretty amazing! Sure, it isn't as sturdy, accurate or sport all the various features of a HasLab or custom-built pack...but we're talking apples and oranges here. As you said, people will be lucky to get a Hasbro pack + wand today for less than $1,000 and custom packs will run you a lot more than even that. For somebody who wants a great-looking prop to impress on Halloween or at a costume party, or even just something to make you feel 10 years old again, the Spirit pack is a heck of a deal. If I wasn't already so deeply invested in my HasLab pack and all the mods I've done to it, I would probably pick one of these up.
And just wait until the modding community really gets their hands on this. There is going to be dozens upon dozens of videos, tutorials and pictures of people making this thing out to be even better. What a great time to be a Ghostbuster!

I think Spirit Halloween really did something great by making a full scale proton pack. Judging by the April release, I think they planned for it to release around the time the HasLab pack was originally projected to ship. Capturing any fans that missed out on Hasbro's release for whatever reason. In my mind, having more options available for GB fans and cosplayers is a good thing. I'm sure the modding community will come through with great upgrades too.

The spirit pke/goggles/trap and pack is great for Halloween and cosplay. You don’t have to worry about damaging them. Also the spirit pack is an 84 pack vs afterlife, having both on display is just awesome.

The pack arrived a few days ago, and i was surprised by how light is is. Not that it's really a bad thing. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has issues trying to grab the wand. It looks like you already made a slight mod to it, by brining the clip to more of a forward angle? I'd love to see a template to mount the Alice Frame as well. But for the price. this will more than meet my needs. PS, also a call force firefighter, for Waterboro, Maine.

10 months later, still loving it. I've been modding mine, not anything close to movie accurate, I'm making it my own.
I just got the '84 wand to swap out with, have the parts to do the Tacobelli cyclotron/bumper swap, adding forward facing flash lights over each shoulder, added the black and yellow saftey door and striping, an actual EMF detector, blue tooth speaker, repositioned the wand so I can reach the damn thing, then added bracket to hold a small handheld folding mirror so I can rehook the wand myself, put a Michael Myers "the Boogeyman" sticker on the pack (a nod to TRG cartoon) plus, I love the Halloween franchise.
Speaking of other franchises, I added a lightsaber to mine. Yes, a lightsaber. That way, when Gozer goes all Emporer Palpatine and throws lighting at me, I got something to take it. Just like Masters Windu and Kenobe showed us. 😊

I, personally, love what they did with the Haslab pack and decided to do a bit of research into the origins of the shell. From what I've found, the Haslab pack is based off of the workbench pack from Egon's underground lab. I saw your comparison video with the shell you showed and the Haslab pack, and after a bit of looking at some stills from the entire scene, I'm almost 100% certain that it's where the Haslab pack is is from. Other than the evidence I mentioned in the first vid that I commented on, in one frame in particular from the lab scene, there is a reflection on the Ion arm that shows no bolts at all. It's also important to note that in today's world of film making that as long as what you're shooting is in dark lighting, you can fudge anything you want as long as it 'looks' like the hero prop. The one thing that I noticed was the difference between the compression sleeve on the packs. The workbench pack still had a bright yellow one, but it didn't have it didn't have any black threads in it while the Haslab only had the light yellow sleeve.

I wanted a Hasbro, but upon further thought I decided not to. Not only was it out of my price range there was the concern I'd loose a lot of parts. Fast forward to Spirit Halloween's release of the full size pack and I jumped on the opportunity to buy one. Does it have all the bells and whistles of The Haslab? No. But does it do what I want? Yes.

This is Spirit's best pack yet. I remember when they came out with them initially. I ended getting one in 2018 and it was cool but there were things I wish it had. For one there's no idle mode so the cyclotron and blue lights don't light up unless you're shooting and even then it's just flashing. There's no start up sound just firing. I would very much like to get my hands on one of these.

I honestly don't think the HasLab people got a Hero to scan. I think they got the Workbench pack. Which would make sense, since they wanted to include the inner cyclotron, as well. It would also explain why the fake resistor on the exterior ion arm is a Pacific style, not a Dale resistor. The Hero pack has a Dale, the Workbench pack has a Pacific.

But I also wonder if that difference might be the fact that the Spirit pack (just like their smaller pack) doesn't have that little bumper on the bottom. If one were to add a bumper, they might be right around the exact same size. Some of the proportions are still a little wonky, but absolutely not in a way that any Karen would notice. 😆 Aside from the cyclotron. But Etsy abounds with cyclotron mods.

It really is just that...great for the price and hard not to express that. Maybe I'll do a more detailed video comparison in the future. Thanks for the comment.

@@ChrisBoshProps I understand and thank you for your thoughtful response. Like I said, it just turned into a "Spirit pack is great for the price" video. If you wanted to use price as a factor, I would love to learn your opinion on the differences between the packs and if they justify the price difference.

I think to the average person, the spirit pack is mostly indistinguishable from the Hasbro packs without close scrutiny. Proton packs impress people, it doesn't actually take a lot. I took my replica pack out back in 2009, I'd say it was about 75 percent done: no weathering, no sound or working lights, missing some parts entirely. People went nuts for it. Everyone loved it. No one cared that it wasn't complete, to them it was a proton pack.
The Hasbro pack is definitely much nicer than the Spirit pack, there's no doubt. Is it worth three times the price of the Spirit pack (factoring in the need to buy a neutrona wand for the hasbro pack)? That's harder to say. It really depends on how much accuracy is worth to you. To me personally, I'd say no. Not to mention that Hasbro is literally the biggest toy manufacturer in the world. They should not have any trouble competing with Spirit Halloween on this.

I finished modding my Haslab into an 84’, video is on my channel if you are interested, full repaint, swapped all the legris, clippard elbows, clippards, ribbon cable, ion arm, bellows, tubing, macks labels.. really shows what can be achieved with it.

Thanks for the comment and I'll have to check it out. The Haslab has lots of potential but I can't bring myself to do any mods to it that require cutting into it or removing existing parts just because I want to keep as much of the collectible value and what they originally intended. With that said I wish I would have bought a second to mod hahah!

If they put the speaker somewhere else, ANYWHERE ELSE, this would arguably look better than the Afterlife-specific Haslab. Luckily there's already a cyclotron cover on etsy I'll be playing with.

My fullsize ghostbusters proton pack is getting a major upgrade starting next year 👍🏻👍🏻 and not everyone going to pay over $ 800 for a proton pack without the wand its stupid and pathetic to not sell the wand with the pack thats like buying a brand new car without the tires " makes no sense " at some point to make my protonpack more like the hasbro pack im going to replace the bumper and" cycolotron-? "Hope i said that right 🤣🤣🤣 with a modded version from " ETSY"👍🏻👍🏻 those spirit halloween proton pack are very high on ebay from $300 and up im glad I got it when I saw it the first time 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻I was very skeptical at first as I walked around the holloween shop thinking about it " should I get it is it worth $250 " if I don't get it " now" then later people will want "more" for it so far I've repainted the pack replaced that cheap wand with the "afterlife " wand has over 26 lights on pack alone maybe 27 😆

I agree but for 400 when the Hasbro came out originally was a steal. I like the Hasbro much better then the Spirit but the Spirit pack really does the job for anyone new who wants a cheap full size pack.

The Halloween Costumes people must be shaking their fists with impotent rage, cursing Spirit Halloween, who took advantage of their endless delays, swooped in unannounced, and destroyed most of the demand for their product.

    • @oidoglr

I think it's pretty likely that the Halloween Costumes / Fun proton pack was likely delayed because it'll use this shell as it's base since the fan reaction to the prototype render they showed last year.

    • @ChrisBoshProps

Most definitely. They saw how many backers the Haslab pack had and said were going to put this pack out before anyone else at a cheaper price and corner the market.

I believe that they use the same manufacturer as Spirit

From what I've seen, the Halloween Costumes Pack is definitely NOT worth the $500 asking price, the only lights it has is the cyclotron, none on the wand and the power cell is just a sticker.
The Spirit pack has lights &sounds for only 1/2 the price

@@ChrisBoshPropsi think spirit already had this in the works and were waiting for the right time to release it..... it takes years to go from prototyping to tooling to manufacturing.... they were out way too fast. But im glad they did. They should have done this in the first place.

Magiclly....it seems like the more these companies charge, the better the product gets.
How about charging a little more and doing a lot better.
    From the factory...
    - Always on
    - Ability to easily change/upgrade a rechargeable battery pack.
    - Aux cord/Bluetooth ability for external speakers.
    - louder better quality internal dual or more speakers.
    - Metal shell.
    - More accurate lights.
    - Smoke function built-in.
    - Optional included Alice frame.
What is that......an extra 300 on a mass produced item. I think a collector would be willing to pay that if done right.

If you think about it, this new Spirit pack is more accurate to the 84 movie packs than the Haslab pack 😏 the Haslab pack is from Afterlife.

I gotta say I really love the Spirit proton pack for its accuracy and price, but I gotta say ... it's built very cheaply. Don't drop the wand or any other part of it. The wiring is so poorly done and delicate in this thing that it will stop working if you just look at it wrong. It's cool, but it's cheaply made so buyer beware.

If you look behind the foam you’ll find a motherboard.

    • @ChrisBoshProps
      @ChrisBoshProps  Před rokem +1

That doesn't really count as a motherboard. I'm talking about a motherboard that would be strong enough to attach an alice frame to help make the pack more accurate to its movie counterpart.
