Update: Press "Info" instead of half way pressing the shutter.
Also ignore the "low end camera" comment. What I mean is that it's the lower tier level in the Canon series (which it is) - I just worded it in the wrong way.
This doesn't mean it isn't a great camera!! You can get a great image out of this camera!! I'm all about using the gear that you have so don't let that comment turn you off.
I hope your day is filled with love and abundance instead of hate 🙏 so consider that before dropping a hate comment, I'm a real person on the other end of this video.

It's been a while since you've made this however for the people that are curious. If you want to keep the settings up instead of constantly pressing the shutter button you simply press info. Press it a few times and it'll give you histograms etc. Just chose whichever is best for you.

Push the "INFO" button on the back of the camera to see those Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO details, etc. so you don't have to press the shutter halfway down.

Great video! To show the settings on the screen, you have to hit the INFO button, next to the MENU button. No need to hold down the shutter. I have a T6i but planning to buy a Panasonic GH5, which you recommended in another video. I need to start shooting in 4K. I would pay for a video about the GH5 once I have it.
GREAT TIP! Glad someone commented about that because I was dumbfounded haha. I loooove my Gh5 so that's def an option. I feel like I've already recorded that and shelved it so maybe I need to resurface it. How cool that you're up leveling your gear : ) 4k is awesome!

Hi Amanda, thank you very much for this video, very helpful. I'm going to purchase this camera tomorrow, I do a lot of filming of remote controlled aircraft that fly very fast and also do a lot of filming of airshows. I found by mounting a 7 inch external monitor to the camera it makes it a lot easier to follow the aircraft, the problem I been having is a lot of the camera's I like don't have a hot shoe adapter where as the Rebel T7i does. So do you see any issues why this wouldn't work on this camera? It would be HDMI to HDMI. I use a wireless microphone system but hopefully this camera has good quality built in microphones. How is the zoom capabilities on this camera. I well probably be shooting in auto most of the time. btw, you have very pretty eyes.....

My Canon EOS Rebel t7, which I bought last week brand new, only has on-off setting, no video setting as part of the on-off switch. There is a video setting on the dial, but I've been unable to record any video so far (SD card, issue? I'm using the 32gb SD card that came with the camera). What am I doing wrong?

Amanda, I use the T7i my webcam and don't know how to get rid of the AF frame that shows up on the screen? I know I can switch from AF to MF on the lens, however that looses the focus. Do you have any tricks in your bag?
Once in video mode, how do I actually start the camera recording because every time I try to start the video recording with the button it actually takes a picture instead of starting the video?? Please help. Thanks heaps.
I had already adjusted all my setting but can’t get my camera to record video. How do you actually shoot the video. Sorry if this is too elementary, I’m completely new to DSLR cameras.
you need to press the button with the camera icon on the back of the camera, you can see there is a red dot near it. This is the default button to record video.
If you would rather use the black trigger to record video, you would need to enable that in the settings.
1. you want to press on the tab labeled "shooting settings" with a camera icon below it, tap on the "okay" on the touch screen.
2. tap on the tab labeled "4"
3. double tap on the setting labeled "btn function"
4. you will see 4 settings: you want enable one of the two settings on the right, i would recommend using the second to last setting. it looks like [AF/🎥]
5. once this setting is selected, you want to tap on the set/ok button on the bottom right of the screen.
6. half-press on the black trigger to go back into shooting mode.
With this new setting, if you go into video mode, you can full-press on the trigger to get it to record video. This does not disable the default button for video, you just now have two buttons for video.
I loved your video, but from the title, .I assumed you would recommend some settings for shooting videos. You showed how to access the settings, but are there any recommended standard "setups" ? Also, when you refer to the '2nd gear' (or whatever number), that is actually a wrench.

I've got the T7i and stream twitch. The picture on the camera is is right side up but the video on twitch is upside down. I don't see a rotate vertical picture on the menu settings for either Twitch or the camera. Hoping you had some suggestions

With the Q button you can change iso aperture and shutter speed a lot easier

Ok so how do I change the video settings from movie to something I could send it to my phone
I'm pretty sure the "picture style" is only for still photographs. If you notice, it's in one of the still image menus, not the video menu of the camera. You can access it while you're video mode only because the camera allows you to take still while also taking video. It's usually best to shoot a neutral (flat) image and use more advanced color correction tools in an editing program on your computer in post.
Other than a few small errors, I'm probably going to share this with my students to learn the basics of shooting video on these cameras.

Great question, I believe all canons record for only 30 minutes unfortunately 😐 could you have a phone as a second camera that is on the guest and get up and click record again at the 30 minute mark? Or have a friend do that?

I know this video is old but I found it from google. I need help with my T7i settings.
While I’m filming my ISO will start to randomly go up to like 12800 and the screen keeps beeping and changing settings as if someone is touching it. Then it will start to go out of focus or try to focus on the wall. Idk what is happening
Sounds like you might be on auto. On the top of the camera, change your dial to "M" and then you can manually set your settings!

Fortunately I seldom use the video on my canon SL1. Your video is the easiest to understand however....I hit the recording and it goes for about 5 sec and turns off....??? whats up w/ that? Card is formated and of good size.....
Hi Amanda I am having trouble making the setting feature not appear on screen. The company I work for is producing a live strem next week and on the other end of the video we can see the cameras settings including battery, time and an icon of a camera..how can I get this off?
Hey! There should be some sort of setting called HDMI out and you have to turn this off. Or maybe there is a way to turn off the info display. I borrowed this camera to make the video so I’m not entirely sure of the exact setting. I would google those two things and see what comes up!
I can relate because I’m trying to figure out the same thing on my end with the Panasonic GH5. Some camera info came through on my last live stream on the channel.
