I saw this when it was originally released. I was thrilled when I found it again on youtube. I must have watched it every year since then. It deserved an Oscar.

Thanks. Sums up how fast the ups and downs can occur as a musician.

Saw this once in the 90s, never forgot it. So glad it’s on CZcams now for others to enjoy. A real gem.

Applying to all commentators up above. This short is just being watched by me, 32 years after the release. It touched my strings and if anyone would see my comment - hit a heart of fire sign.
No matter who you are - release yourself. Take your joy from your masterpeace and nothing else matters guys!

I remember watching this some random night after it came on after a movie I watched. I was floored. Remember this was before the internet, so I could not remember the name of it; only that it was a 30-minute movie on HBO or Cinemax or Showtime. For some reason I thought it was Michael Pare as the lead. I guess I was confusing it with Eddie and the Cruisers. I think this did win an Oscar for some short film or something like that. This is one of those movies that you sit and think about long after the credits finished. Think about what's going through McQueen's head when he finally goes back to bed. This should be syndicated on cable tv forever! "I got 16 tons of monkeys on my back!"

i remember watching it when it aired and instantly loved it. years later i was trying to remember what it was called and how to get a copy of it, ended up finding some Chinese VCD copy probably about 20 years ago. great to see somebody has put it up here.

Extraordinary. Really accurate portrayal. The performances were so well done in every area of this production. Great work behind the scenes. Lots of backing in the credits is good to see. Loved the script. Super look back at the 80s styles too. Really well done. A super long/short movie with all the plot points and developments in there. Great work.

Glad you enjoyed this video. Going through old tapes I was amazed to find this gem. Watching it for the first time in decades was a trip. It stands alone as the quintessential story of every musician.

Such a great part for Remar, who was usually a villain

With respect to Tonio K and the original version, this is so much better. I would buy this version in an instant.

Caught this when it originally aired. It was cool that a channel (HBO, Showtime) put together a show about a session guitarist. It would be cool even now but especially so then as so few even knew what session men were. The Dean Storm character was a bit overly cliche but it's a minor point in what was a great production.
