I'm fairly sure that the basement does not hold a crematorium. Based on the coal chute and large blower fan, it's the old central heating system for the mausoleum. And that is simply the interior of the heater itself. Hence the newer equipment installed directly next to it, probably just providing air circulation for the building. Regardless the mausoleum does give off a very creepy vibe. Love all of your videos!

Good call. Glen Oaks didn't have a crematory. There are several other cemeteries that had crematories, but not Glen Oaks. The funeral home on/adjacent to the property has a crematory now too.

My grandmother is in a crypt there. I have a key to that place which is normally locked... to keep the ghosts and vampires from getting out, be my guess.
    Creepy in the extreme.
Only dubious plus being that dank and musty smell that seems to crawl down your throat when you're in there likely keeps the squirrels and chipmunks out.

I was completely rooted to the chair, spooked out with the noise of the storm swelling outside. So, I was pleased you were then leaving, but no! you found the basement!!! I could hardly watch as you went downstairs and explored every nook and cranny . I will remember this one for the palpitations i had. Of course I could have just stopped watching but I couldn’t. Thank you Ron, your visit today was scary, creepy but tantalising. Thank goodness that entrance door opened and then suddenly you were in the clear. But, where did all that noise come from?? Where was the storm or the wind that was rattling the windows upstairs? Because it was surprisingly calm outside?? Phew! I could really feel the hairs on the back of my neck go up. I’m not on here much anymore, Ron, and it was good to see one of your videos. What a spooky tour! You absolutely never disappoint. This reminded me of the time my grandma passed away back in the mid 1960s. The funeral was in February on a cold and windy storm ridden night. The winds were just howling! And, then, there were others howling in the winds as well, ethereal howls that were very similar to the winds, but were moaning cries that turned in to howls to be whisped away. No, I’m not misspelling. It was a whisp sound as the souls were pulled here and there in the winds. Quite frightening an experience for a first time funeral experience at a time when I just started school. The funeral home was packed in the upper rooms and we were told not to go up there, as the rooms are filled with others who had passed, and they were awaiting their own funerals. You can bet we didn’t want to go up there one second! While in the restroom I asked my mom whose voices kept crying, and she looked at me started, then brushed it off saying it was just the wind. I told her it was not just the wind, but she brushed it off affirming it was the wind, but I knew she heard them as well. Later my cousin who was my age was sitting on the steps sobbing. I asked her what was wrong, and she pointed to the upper rooms, saying how “they” never hushed up, they never stopped crying and wailing. She said they were dead and they didn’t want to be. I looked up at those rooms and it almost seemed like we could see their spirits going back and forth in the rooms, but they never went past the doorways, as if they couldn’t. It was very unsettling. I comforted my cousin, and finally told her to get her mind off them, and I took her to the sweet treats that were laid out for the family to eat. She always loved sweets. I told her to take as much as she wanted, then with her hands full of sweets we went to a quiet spot where we and several other children sat on the sofa and floor, and she began to eat her treats, and soon had calmed down and her bright, sweet smile was back again. But she clouded up a second and said, “You heard them, too. I know you did.” I told her yes, and explained that some people love life or had unfinished business when they passed on, and that’s why they cry, but God wipes away all our tears in time. I don’t know where that came from out of me as young as I was, but I knew she needed to hear that, so she wouldn’t continue to worry about the souls who were crying. She finally settled down and was back to her sweet self. It was a sad time for us as grandma was the center stone of the family, and everyone missed her. To have that experience was even more distressing. It was an unsettled night in the funeral home, but near my grandma it felt peaceful and calm, and we all felt her immense love. Hearing those sounds in that mausoleum as you walked through made me think of that night and the sounds we heard. Some souls don’t want to leave. Some I think don’t leave. They do cry for their missed life and missed loved ones. Perhaps they become upset when they see the person walking the halls is not a loved one or friend they miss so much. Sad when loved ones seldom visit their loved ones, or stop visiting all together. Those souls don’t know why, I suppose, and they miss them. You are always so respectful to them as you pass by. Whoever runs the place really should clean it up in the hidden working areas. All that dust gets passed around. At least the area where the people rest is well kept. Glad you got out of there safely before the storm hit. Take care, be safe, and see you soon on another adventure. God bless you and your family.

Wow, no wonder why this place gave you the creeps. Because it's completely creepy. That dark entryway and those long halls, the eerie echo and complete silence. It feels like an abandoned building. Just think how many cemeteries will be like this one day with all of the old graves around that will have no visitors anymore. It's kind of sad, really. It's still interesting, though. It almost feels to me like it's been creepy from the start. I'm glad I don't have any loved ones buried here. This was certainly one of your most intriguing explorations. The cremains display cabinet starting at 4:05 is particularly interesting, and raises a lot of questions. The cabinet looks like something one would see in a department store other retail place, but not intended for holding cremation containers. It's just a few large panes of sliding glass with locks at the bottom for each one. And the fact that it is on rollers suggests it was never intended for use in a mausoleum. Its only purpose seems to be to conceal the opening to the room behind it. The "hidden" room looks like it was specifically designed to hold cremains but is completely empty and in a state of disrepair, unlike the rest of the mausoleum. In fact, it looks like nobody has been in that room for years based on the accumulation of dust. I'm curious what the story to this room is, why it is hidden, empty and abandoned. I hope you can try to find some answers to this. It may be one of the most interesting aspects of this mausoleum.

Ooooooh Ron, that was a creepy place, still obviously used by some, but seems like a lonely, forgotten and sad place - don’t get me wrong I don’t expect it to be full of laughs, but just, seems so soulless. Many don’t get a visit but happily some do. The crematorium not in use obviously but so interesting to see what was used 1918 era. Thanks for scaring yourself and some of us when you saw the cut out of the lady and the kids - I’m sure they got a laugh at scaring you Ron. Take care and thanks Ron. x

If this is a Catholic mausoleum, then the repository for cremated remains is called a columbarium. According to Catholic doctrine, cremation is permitted, but the ashes must be buried or deposited in a columbarium. Taking them home and putting them on the mantle or scattering them is considered disrespectful.

The stillness and how eerily quiet it was…that’s what did it for me. And imagining just laying there in the dark behind a wall day after day, year after year, in all that silence (even though they’ve passed and aren’t aware…still, for me, it’s an awful thought) The silence there was almost unnatural. And I wasn’t keen on the lifesize cutouts of that lady and the two kids…at all. Big nope. Fascinating tour Ron! Stay safe out there x

What made the sound at 8:52 and 10:52?
9:03 I love how everything inside these buildings is clad in white marble with some grey veining.
9:45 Three family members all died within 64 days of each other! What happened? COVID had begun in February 2020. I wonder if it was COVID. How awful no matter what it was, to lose your family all in less than 3 months. The trauma has to be devastating for those remaining. I hope someone is checking on those who are grieving.
    11:02 Beautiful doors.
    11:16 I love these statues.
14:58 The howling, whistling wind sounds like a tornado is coming.
15:11 Did all the lights go off in that dark area?
15:29 Please remember this uneasy feeling. This is how me and my Sis feel in the woods around our home in Vicksburg, MS. Mama said her Mother (my maternal Grandmother) who was very psychic and never ever bragged about it, warned her to warn us about the dead soldiers that are all throughout the woods. Civil War soldiers. That uneasy feeling would come over me and my Sis when we were kids and it was like a tidal wave engulfing us and we would feel like something wanted us to leave right now. We would scramble to leave. Whatever that feeling, it would hit us both. We kept going back playing in our beautiful woods though. And we kept having to run out screaming. That uneasy feeling. I know that feeling. We also have all heard men walking in boots in the woods and it will be broad daylight. Our whole family and all our pets. We watch and listen. You can hear it but you cannot see it.
22:31 Yep. I also heard that sound.
25:06 I was expecting storm and yet it was a sunny day. I heard howling winds inside upstairs. No storm outside. That is perplexing.

Hey Ron! That was definitely a creepy mausoleum… As most people already mentioned I’ve actually heard the voices and whispers to… This is definitely a very active place so it’s understandable that you have that uneasy feeling. I believe what’s down in the basement is just an old heating system for the mausoleum I don’t believe it was a crematorium in my opinion. I think they converted over to a new system that was over to the far left with the “Carrier” name on it. but when you were talking about the old system somebody definitely said “it’s old equipment!” Wow 😮scary! Thanks for the visit!

Wow Ron, you have some HUGE cojones going into that basement all alone!! Props to you for that alone!! That whole place is SUPER creepy! Even from the outside! But then you get in there, and the dim lighting, the dust and cobwebs, the abandoned feel of the whole place! And the incoming storm, and its accompanying wind, only added to the foreboding atmosphere! Not to mention those terrifying cardboard cutouts! My dad had one right in front of the window in his den, when I was younger, of one of his favorite race car drivers. I can't tell you how many times that thing made me jump! To see one in a mausoleum? I'd need to go ahead and find myself a crypt, because I'd die right there on the spot!! I don't blame you for getting a bad feeling-I'd have noped the hell out of there after only taking about three steps inside! That place is TERRIFYING!! Even upstairs! There's no way in hell I would've gone down those dark steps!! Glad we have someone brave enough to give us a look, without having to do it ourselves!! Thanks for the video!
ETA: It's a shame nobody keeps that place up better. There's just no money for anything, these days. And sadly, even when there is, people often don't care. What a shame. May all entombed there rest in peace.

Ron, The big hole or chute as you described it is a return or a plenum. It's job is to return the air back to the furnace so it can be heated again. The old furnace was oil fired, you can see the "gun" on the intact side. A crematorium would have a larger room with better access for wheeling gurneys around, and storage.

That is definitely a creepy place and I almost jumped out of my clothing when those life size cardboard images appeared. The woman looked very real for just a split second and she and the kids just unsettled me. Someone close to her wanted it that way so I won't judge it, maybe the images are comforting to family members. What was extremely unnerving was the sound the wind( ? ) made in a section of the mausoleum. I was glad you got out of there pretty quickly after that, especially when you got outside and everything looked still out there. It just felt like a very sad and unforgiving place to me. You have guts, Ron, staying in there for as long as you did.

The chute with the doors was the cold air return, and the doors have filters to grab dust out of the air. The little motor ran the huge fan!
It would be interesting to know how they heated that big place, and I would suspect water/steam system that provided hot water for radiators, as that was quiet common in big buildings like that. The only problem, if it quit in the winter, the pipes would break and flood the place, and seeing all of the basement water damage, I suspect that is why they have new furnaces!
The old crematoria retort has been damaged quite a bit! And it would be too expensive to replace that!
