Netflix’s newest fantasy series, Shadow & Bone, has more than its fair share of explosive battles, toothy monsters, and characters as its story criss-crosses the globe, but hey… It’s got magic too, right? The first season gets busy adapting the five books in author Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling Grishaverse series, which is named for its word for spell-slingers: The Grisha. These magic wielders are a force of nature and a huge part of the world and its story, and over the eight episodes in season one, we learn a lot about them and how they work. In case you missed something though, or you’re just looking to bone up before jumping into the series, we’ve got all the information you need to understand the Grisha, their powers, and how they’re organized.
Stick with us for the next ten minutes and we’ll teach you how to tell a Materialki from a Corporialki, what’s up with the special robes they all wear, and just what the deal is with the Black General and the Second Army. We’ve got the details on how the Grisha are perceived in Ravka and its neighboring countries, the origins of their name, how they’re found, and how they can change their powers. We might even have a few stories and legends that give us a peek at what’s to come in season two and beyond.

I wish they found some way to explain all of this during the show.
Same but otherwise we wouldnt be watching this video lol
Netflix's new fantasy series Shadow and Bone looks like absolutely everything we could want in a show. From the elaborate costume and the beautiful set to the totally engrossing storyline, we're so ready to get completely obsessed.
The visuals is so beautiful. Netflix's got $$$
I’m so glad you guys elaborated on this as I felt it was poorly explained in the show. I was trying to figure out if the protag had magic because she was part shu or grisha
Awesome show. I really liked the magic system and worldbulding. Plus the cast was amazing.
What a fantastic series it is ☺️
Can't get enough of this show.
Whoa, you explained it so eloquently! I love it!
So glad you enjoyed it!
I so desperately wish the plot would have been anything but the typical YA tropes because the setting is genuinely one of the most interesting I've seen before
My Husband and I have literally watched all your videos on Shadow and Bone💀❤️
Its kinda implied that Grisha abilities are divinely-gifted
Just started reacting to this show on our channel and wow 👏 😳 thanks for the video. Needed this!
Perfectly competent, enjoyable stuff.
I finished season 1 of Shadow & Bone and I still say Grisha like this (Grih-shah). I don’t know why, it feels natural to me.
Almost went blind watching the final episode on 4am.
This was very helpful! Thanks!
9:01 A Durast is used to pair an Amplifier to a Grisha. The heartrender was used when pairing with Alina to keep her from struggling.
Love this series
I can't believe they made THIS an Avatar movie better than the last Airbender.
Excuse me friend
@Penguin 100%
Love you Prince Caspian ❤️❤️ Shadow and bones 💞💞💞
Is basically alchemy from full metal alchemist
Genya got a really really nice power.
Mmmm I love how they take 4 seconds to kill a person while the guy with a gun just goes *pew pew "not today boio"
Yup, perfect case of technology outpacing natural power. Always loved that kind of plot point
Yah I just watched this series and it was REALLY. CONFUSING. it was good but I didn’t have any background in the books or anything so I was like “Whaaaaaa?” most of the time.
Good news! We put out a video explaining the timeline of the whole season, maybe it will help you! czcams.com/video/8QoGgUs6dmQ/video.html
Do a video about the areas of this world. Shu Han? Ravka etc?.
The Last Airbender meets Harry Potter?
Also meets the witcher.
Please do a pitch meeting for shadow and bone
So its full metal alchemists basically
Is it faithful to the books tho?
As a massive fan of the Witcher games and books, Shadow and Bone makes the Witcher show look low budget IMO
Its not too late to delete this
@@Meowo1230 lol
7:03 he has a mother that’s a shadow somewhere so he’s not the soul shadow Sumner
@Penguin I forget her name but she’s the evil lady who trained the main character in the dungeon
@Penguin lol yea don’t The characters too well I just remember when she was trying to escape with that lady she said you’re his mother and she said yes and she was explaining what he did to create the shadow wall
I took a Gripha quiz to see which one I was and I got Corporalki (Healer)
Just make an mmo of this
It was too sleepy for me and it didn’t have much details at all, events were happening too fast and with no explanation for some stuff that caught my attention but i needed more to understand and fall deep with each character. Its a basic good fantasy but its also chaos and rushed.
that’s a you problem. maybe read the books?
@@emssilia4870 no? The show has to be able to stand on its own lmao
or, read the books.
What do u mean what is an ethereal key?
Etherealki are Grisha who can "Summon" an elemental force to their will.
Hi I’m early
I'm getting Avatar vibes watching this.
Small Science not magic.
Sounds like Bending.
7th
After the whole first season, i was left wondering why did I watch that
@Penguin well it used of lot of bandwidth for no entertainment
that’s a you problem
call me crazy, but I think crooked kingdom is better than shadow and bone
Avatar
Second
Make a video about her eyebrows. Really creepy.
Perhaps you can explain the map in episode 1, or where anything else takes place... since... the viewer has no idea what the words on the map say.
For all we know, when the name of a city comes up, it could be on the other side of the world, or right next door.
The show was written poorly.
Shallow and Bored...
read the books - it explains everything
okay? not our problem. if you can’t be bothered to look up stuff, delve into the plot more by reading the books etc, that’s not anyone else’s problem but your own. don’t need to be so negative
7 videos? seriously?
Reporting for spam :)
The books didn’t explain them that well either lmao
First
I don't know it looks kinda boring. I'm guessing there's constant exposition dumps from random characters. I've never liked the style of the Victorian Era as well. Everything is so Gaudy. I might force myself to watch the first episode.
It's based on Tsarist Russia not Victorian England. And thank goodness for that!
@Penguin Science is the observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of natural phenomena. Science is just a method of testing naturally occurring things. I'm interested in how the show explains how magic is a naturally occurring phenomenoa. I don't think that's ever been attempted in a show.
I can't get over how wrongly you pronounce most names D: nice video tho
The show has a diverse female cast, could do work on the male cast
I just don't buy the actors 🤷
