Dont give up fix one thing at a time. The chemical clean of the clutches seemed to work great. The tougher the job the greater the reward when fixed. We all know different things and thats why we are all better together. If you dont ask you never get.
It quit after you backed up the hill. The carburetor float is probably misadjusted. Get it on flat ground and see if it starts. Don’t quit.
Carburetor???? Thougt it was a diesel…

You went on an incline,and lack of gas stalled it.
Maybe the carb float level is not adjusted properly.
You should use a transparent fuel filter to see if you have dirt in it.
We tried that on our john deere 350 loader and it didn't work, we took it apart and the clutches were all rusted together. We should have used Evaporust. We took both rear ends out and rebuilt them, painted the case insides reassembled them, and adjusted them equally. Now it turns on a dime, both sides are equal, and feels nice to drive. (67 JD 350 loader)
Maybe sucked up some crap when you ran out of gas. They make little strainers for the sediment bowls. Our 1010 had a rusty tank and would always suck up crap and block the inlet to the sediment bowl. Those carbs can be finicky too in my experience. Had to run it and adjust the main jet a few times. Also check out the distributor and make sure the mechanical advance is working fluidly. New subscriber and excited to see more on the 1010 and hopefully more about the 3010 you rescued.
That’s so aggravating to spend all that time, energy, and effort in to something and it quits running. I know what that feels like. I don’t have much patience with things like that. I’ve got equipment I need to fix but I keep putting off because I don’t care to deal with the grief of trouble shooting problems. I had a 1010 , put a zenneth style carb on it and it'll run way better .
I would stone all mating surfaces with sharping stone then check with straight edge get a bead blaster it will make parts new keep videos coming dude I like when you work with Andrew you make a great team and hello from Las Vegas millwrights 50 years experience rebuilding every thing .

I'll tell you what. That dozer pushed that heavy wet snow we just got pretty easily. I'm impressed on how you hauled the truck around the yard too. Good idea. Take a break from it for awhile. It's just a fuel issue. You'll figure it out in time. You got alot accomplished with changing the fluids etc. A little at a time. Funny part is, I brought the exact same battery at tractor supply for my Ford 641. They are 7 to 8 months old, but still new. Beats 139 bucks off sale any day. You've taken the seat off so many times, you might want to use wing nuts instead of bolts, haha! Keep it up. It's great content. I know it's frustrating, but you are making headway. Take care Scott.

After hearing Andrew say anybody who buys this is going to constantly be fixing it I would run it through the ring. Maybe someone like Diesel Creek might buy it he likes old machines.
These are the more frustrating buys for sure. I think you almost got it. It didn't seem to fire off at all even with the starting fluid so I would double check spark. It cut out right after climbing the hill maybe when it rocked back it knocked loose a plug / coil wire.
If you don't have the wico distributor then you can put a electronic module instead of points ,that would help too .

Traditionally you're using the wrong lube on the track rollers. The Alemite button head fittings are for a track roller lube gun. It uses a semi-fluid roller lube which flows from the roller body through a hole to the bushings. Grease won't flow properly in that application.

The Track rollers don't grease they use lube Dave. My 1951 IH T6 dozer uses the same setup
Good ole points, condenser, coil and carb. When they work they work when they dont its only 4 points to diagnose lol
Did you know that the engine in your Dozer has been replaced with a engine out of a wheel tractor? Engine are the same. I did the same thing with my 1010 diesel engine. The tractor engines are green. Got my engine from farmer John. Good video.

Try some Lucus gear oil treatment might help I put it in my allis Chalmers hd 6 track loader it slowed the final drive leak down on mine

You really need to use a torque wrench and proper bolt tightening sequence to ensure you don’t crack intake manifold or stress bolts.

You should have a Fuel Feed from Both ends of the Fuel Tank. One up front and one in the rear. I didn't notice whether or not that You have that Front Line on Your Machine. They were made this way for when You go uphill, the machine feeds fuel from the Rear Line. When You go downhill, the fuel should feed from the Front Line. This way if You have half a tank of fuel, the tractor will still run. There should be a Y-Fitting near the front of the Carburetor so that it can feed from either end. You could have that, I don't remember seeing it on the video. If You have the Front Line, You may want to take it off and see if it is Plugged, Crimped, Etc. I hope that this helps. P.S. After rewatching the video, it appears that someone has taken the Factory Metal Fuel Lines off and replaced them with a Nylon Tube and it looks like You're only feeding the carb from the Rear Fuel Tap.
Not sure if you have e85 in NY but it's cheap and really strips oils
Use a couple of guide pins to take weight of manifold. less chance of damage to new gaskets

If that’s a old marvel carb like I think it is then they hate hills put it on flat ground and it will crank, as far as the clutches go u mite as well take it apart and do it rite, I kno u don’t want to but it will make good content so why not

Thats what's so aggravating about gas powered equipment, the old stuff is super cool and when it runs right it is great but it doesn't take much to mess them up and ruin your day ,just sitting around not getting used with this crappy gas causes all kinds of problems so I park it running awesome go back to use it again after a couple months and bam I'm starting all over !!@

Make sure the fuel tank oulet aint bugger up ,you may have a cloogged fuel system from being on a angle.

I believe brake cleaner is made up of a large percentage of acetone already and it hasn’t hurt anything I’ve put it to. So far it’s been my favorite all around cleaner/degreaser especially for what it cost and how well it works. $24 a gal compared to $40 and gallon for brakleen

I've got a 1010RU that be runnin just fine then suddenly start runnin like crap but will also start backfiring & if it sets awhile it'll have gas up in the intake tube....gonna pull the carb tom to adjust the float....frustratin ain't it....

From what I remember about the 1010 that I used to own is that almost every part on it is obsolete and even when you get it running as good as it ever will, it will still be a gutless turd. Possibly the worst crawler John Deere ever made, with the possible exception of the 2010.

Either it sucked crap from the tank if it really ran out of fuel or your float height isn't correct because you on a hill.
Sloshed around junk in tank and blocked flow possibly? I always use inline filters on old stuff when I can.
@@scubasteve7946 thats what im thinking, its hard to tell on video but if its too much on an incline, the float could be blocking fuel from flowing.
You would think a bulldozer could back up a hill but I guess not with a gas engine.
@@Dumpster_Dave I have a Case 188 diesel that is dead right now also with a failed injection pump. These old girls all need help after several decades of (ab)use. The float level may possibly be too high in your carb. One suggestion if I may, please don't beat on that carb so much 😁. I just rebuilt the same carb on our old forklift. Had to R&R about 4 times to get it right. They're old and expensive to replace- a repro was over $700. If it doesn't work, banging a hammer usually only hurts the loose but behind the wheel although I share your frustrations 🤣

You should show people that are watching for education purposes that you messed up putting the float bowl gasket on right. I hope you fixed that before finishing the carb. The gasket goes on before the float. Not on the bowl, but on the upper carb under the float. And when installing the manifolds, you should never use RTV on exhaust manifolds. It will burn it out and cause another leak.
I did fix the gasket, I figure people would turn the video off if they had to watch me take it apart, and the RTV was just to hold the gasket on there.

I am an idiot office nerd trying to maintain my old equipment for my property and really appreciate you and other showing the process, not trying to discourage but help you see it is ok to show mistakes so we all can see the right way. Dave I would of steam cleaned that engine the exhaust I would of wire brushed it and painted with engine exhaust black as your not going back into fixing again
Dave, your time and money is better spent on other stuff rather than this garbage.
Even best case scenario, you have a lump of metal that can barely pull its own weight. You get some CZcams monetisation out of it, from trying to fix it, but thats about it.
Have you ever been on-site and someone has brought one of these dozers along to do a job??
I would recommend you to get the John Deere 1010 Technical Service Manual. Deeremanuals has it. It is an investment.
