Man fault finding is a patient game when tracing cables plus you definitely need a good multimeter to for testing out cables . Nice one . As always watching from the 🇬🇧U.K.

Soooo did you have the owner replace the pump, or did you replace the wire and things worked? Kind of a cliffhanger dude!
Just fixed my neighbor's....was corroded and couldn't turn. No back screw, so I had to use a pair of channel locks to break it free. Running now, but who knows for how long!

Nice find; looks like solid wire, no bueno!! I never run solid wire to motor, always stranded; stranded wire handles vibrations better; I suspect the vibration loosened solid wire connections which generates high heat & eventually short circuits

Bypass the clock and jump straight to the motor and see if the breaker will hold, I’ve had several over the years where the time clock will get old and stop turning properly and by spinning too slow it will overheat the motor,,, what I do is just replace the time clocks and move on with life when that fixes the tripping breaker. The breaker will almost always trip for a reason, find the reason first. That makes a good troubleshooter. If those clocks are bad it won’t be long for the new motor to have the same fate.

At the time clock before un doing the pump if you took your meter and touch the hot and the neutral or ground wouldn’t it have beeped ? Meaning continuity ?

Was the pool pump damaged as a result of the short? Did it work after you rewired it or did the customer have to buy a new pool pump?
