  • I encounter a couple of issues you wouldn’t expect with a genuine kit. I fit the kit to a RML 9330 Dometic fridge in a Bailey Phoenix caravan.

    Very professional looking installation and the photography on the video is excellent making it clear how the fan should be installed.

      Hello Phil, We’re both fine thank you and hope you are too 👍 . Great compliment but doubt Dometic know I exist 😂 . I enjoy making these type of videos even though the pressure was on this time as it wasn’t our caravan 😀 . Kindest regards to you, Rob & Gail

    Neat job Rob,
    I looked at one of these last year but was put off due to the price and the fact that there is barely any room behind my fridge vents, so just couldn't be bothered to do it, after watching the trouble you had with more space to work than mine, I'm glad I didn't bother

      Hello Paul, Compliment appreciated. Hopefully next generation caravans and motorhomes will have them fitted as standard. Nobody wants their fridge cutting out because it’s over heated especially if the grilles are on the awning side…. food for thought 😂 . Thanks very much for watching and all the best, Rob 👍

    As always an excellent Vlog Rob..👍 we fitted the Thetford ventilator fan following your previous Vlog and it works a treat as our fridge vents are in our awning side of the caravan, I hope you remember I fitted the on/off switch inside the caravan via an extension which made it easier to control the fan during very warm evenings, thanks again and looking forward to seeing you soon on CZcams..

    • @robswiseways5697
      @robswiseways5697  Před rokem +1

      Thanks very much Howard, I do remember you fitting the switch inside and good to hear it's doing its job 👍. I decided to leave my switch permanently on, leaving the thermo switch to control the fan, similar to how the Dometic kit works. It may have come on whilst we’ve been out but never noticed it since Sutton on Sea heatwave week in 2022. Next video will be a holiday one 😀. All the best, Rob

    Having watched the awkward fitting I bet they are glad they didn't take it on 😮.
    A bit shabby regarding the kit and fittings.

      Hello Andrew and thank you 👍. I certainly overcame a few obstacles didn’t I. It would be nice to see the fan fitted as standard one day, but for the time being at least make them easier to fit. To have sub-standard parts in a genuine kit is unacceptable, but I got there in the end 😀. Best regards to you both, Rob & Gail

      Hi Glyn & Carol, It was all fiddly but on this particular fridge model fitting the fan itself was the most awkward bit. It’s worth looking into fitting one as you don’t want to come back to a fridge full of ruined food after a lovely day out in the sunshine. Best regards to you both, Rob & Gail 👍😀

    Hi, nice informative video, one question, why not use a in line blade fuse, most caravan and motorhome owners have these as spares anyway, it just safe more fuses to worry about

    • @robswiseways5697
      @robswiseways5697  Před rokem +1

      Hi Mark, I went to the electronics shop for the matching wire and an in line fuse but this was the only one they stocked. I get what you mean about being consistent with the fuses though. Thanks for the compliment and for tuning in. Kind regards, Rob 👍😀

  • @barry1615

    Hi Rob. Dometic vent fans are very frustrating to fit. I bought that same ventilation kit for our Dometic RMS 8xxx only to find that the fan fixing location is in the area of the fridge slap bang between the top and bottom vents requiring the fridge to be disconnected and pulled forward. I had to have it fitted by our AWS technician for safety with the gas connection. Regards, Barry.

    • @robswiseways5697
      @robswiseways5697  Před rokem +1

      Hi Barry, Now that does sound a job and a half ! Due to the awkward fan position on your model I would have expected the fan to have been fitted as standard, or at least the fan fitted ready for the electrical parts to be installed as an option. Hope it does the job 👍. Thanks very much for tuning in. Best regards, Rob 😀

    Hi Rob. Excellent video again. After watching I have ordered a fan kit for my Dometic RML 10.4T. I am wondering if you are going do a video for fitting the kit to this fridge unit. At present I plug in a house fan to the external electric point and direct that at the bottom vent. Which is a pain when you open the caravan door! Here's hoping that you do a video!
    Cheers Geoff

    • @robswiseways5697
      @robswiseways5697  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi Geoff, Good to hear you’ve ordered the genuine kit specifically for the 10 series fridge. Unfortunately I don’t have access to a caravan or motorhome with a 10 series fridge. All I can advise is follow the instructions carefully but contact Dometic if unsure about anything, which is what I would do. It should be straight forward though. Hope it goes well. Best regards, Rob

    I had every intention of doing my dometic but gave up trying to get the late in to the back. Simply no space for doing it. So now I have a fan strapped to the exterior vent cowl on the inside and plug it in…. Not happy so may well lol to finish it off properly.
    Ona. Better job I installed the Avtex Wifi with 5G antenna. Spurred off the stereo feed and installed a 12v and usb socket to plug in to then bolting the router inside the cabinet. Drilling through the outer roof skin was worryingly east. Install took inc. of new 12v socket about 1hr30mjns. The unit is a game changer and have cameras and smart tv connected etc etc.
    I opt to have things 12v or usb so as for off grid and also for those times when the pitch next to you trips your switch off.

    • @robswiseways5697
      @robswiseways5697  Před 11 měsíci

      Hi Justin, The Dometic website says ‘extremely easy to fit’, well that’s a laugh 😂. Trouble with having the fan fixed to the vent cowl, it blocks air flow when it’s not running.
      The Avtex sounds a good piece of kit and a good bit of diy you’ve done. I like the idea of cameras so you can keep an eye on your pitch 👍. I take it the Avtex requires a SIM card though.
      Not sure we’ll ever go off grid, its not our cup of tea 😁. All the best Rob

    Another great video Rob, I fitted one last month,identical fridge in our Cadiz and had the same frustrating issues regarding fitting of the fan,lack of inline fuse and short cable lengths, not ideal when the van is in storage 10 mies from the nearest Halfords,I’m not sure if it was a sales error but I paid £71 online from South Downs motorhomes. Off to Culzean in a week or so hoping its warm enough to test it, best wishes to you both Chris and Mrs Dipity…😊

    • @robswiseways5697
      @robswiseways5697  Před rokem +1

      Hello both and thank you. Looks like there was a big over charge here ! It was purchased from leisurespares.co.uk I think £71 sounds more realistic, especially considering extra wiring, clips and fuse are required. Dometic ought to watch my video to correct their errors 😂 . At least you’re prepared for some serious sunshine and can relax in peace knowing your ice cream will stay frozen 🥶 . Have a good holiday and best wishes, Rob & Gail 👍😀

      Hi Graham, You know me and how I like to keep everything neat 😁. Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m guessing your fridge is a series 10 Dometic with the dedicated connection points for the series 10 fan kit. This kit is half the price of the one I fitted which is odd 🤔. Thanks very much for watching and all the best, Rob 👍

      @@robswiseways5697 Yes, ours is the series 10. It's been fine, though, so don't feel I need to fit a fan yet. Of course, now you've mentioned it I will have a look :-)

    I’ve one on the back of mine, (a home made version) thankfully it’s a lot quieter than that. I’m v noise sensitive and the middle of the night on a quiet CL I’d be hearing that. Guess overnight it won’t run that often unless it’s silly hot.

    • @robswiseways5697
      @robswiseways5697  Před rokem

      Hi David, Thanks for your comment 👍. Have to say the fan really isn’t noisy, the microphone amplified the sound because I was so close. Plus the clip of our fan running in the heatwave had the air blowing into the microphone. Check out my video titled ’How Loud is the Thetford Fridge Ventilator’. I agree with you it’s unlikely to run during the night. Thanks very much and all the best, Rob 😀

    Outrageously expensive! The same job can be done with computer cooling fans,thermostatic relay,off ebay,total cost no more than £30. Absolutely fed up with suppliers of campervan, caravan equipment ripping us off.

      @robswiseways5697  Před 8 měsíci

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I agree it was expensive but afterwards I found the same kit cheaper at £75. Many people do fit computer fans and they work successfully. This is a good example of being ripped off 🫤. Best regards, Rob 👍
