    Hi Dan, just a quick note, before you start to polish the panels you should clay bar all the panels. By doing this it will remove all and any fine bits of grime from the paint. Wet the car down first and keep wet as you work the clay bar onto the panels. Car detailers do this when restoring paint work. It also prevents dirt from getting back into the paint thus keeping the panels smooth and glossy and easily maintained. Clay bars can be hard to find and be expensive, but plumbers putty is the same thing and can be found in most stores, you only need a small amount and keep turning it into its self to get a clean side, then using the compounds to clean and buff the panels to finish.

    I have just done the lower skirting on one side of my 22 year old motor home. WOW!! Followed your process and I am super impressed how easy it was. Now I have to do the other side, the overhead cabin and roof... a big but rewarding task awaits. Thank you Trudgians

    We did the same with our 15yr old Abbey. The GRP sides and ABS front panel was the finish of chalk when we first bought it earlier in the year. I'm sure through a microscope the surface would have looked like a crumpet! Cutting, albeit with an old school cloth and elbow grease, made a massive difference and now has a lustre instead of being dull. Cheers for this one Dan 👍

    Hi Dan, our first Caravan was a 10 year old Compass Rallye 490/4L, I am a weekend detailer and like to keep my Cars lovely. Well I set to clean the caravan and my friend who I bought the van from came to visit us on our first Site. He walked straight passed the caravan, he did not recognize it. Lol

    Thankfully the plastic panels on our old Bailey Pageant always looked as good as new, the paint on the sides however looked s**t until I got the van machine polished by tourershine , that made a 12 year old van look better than new

    Great video Dan. We did our Senator but used a pad on the end of our 18v drill. Worked really well. Cheers, Oliver.

    I typically use a da polisher with some turtle wax colour restor polish (white, obviously) once a year. Works well, but I will also check out these products. Cheers.

    if you've never used a machine polisher before please don't just attack the panel as described, go easy on any raised surfaces, corners, swage lines and ridges, those polishers will burn right through the Gel coat in these areas

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Před 3 lety

      Hi Matthew, yes thats the intended medium. This range of products have been used on Fibreglass (gel coat) boat panels, and vehicle GRP too. i would suggest trial it in a small area first to make sure you are happy with the results.

  • @mat5726

    stupid question but how do you know if your caravan is painted? (totaly newbie here)

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Před 3 lety

      Hi Mat, no - not a stupid question. on older caravans the skin was a very thin sheet of aluminium, on more moderns caravans the skin is a GRP or composite cover, where the colour is bonded to the plastic. to see if your caravan is painted, simply tap the skin for a metallic sound, and also look for damage where there might be a small amount of paint lifted or removed.
      I hope that helps.

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Před 4 lety

      Morning, yes try with stage 2 first on the painted side panels, but with the front and rear fibreglass panels use the restore, to really smooth and bring the panel back to life.
