  • I made the pages flip really quickly because people keep skipping them anyway so I've made them only long enough to pause easily and read if you do like that sort of thing.
    Glenelg is a photogenic and vibrant spot with some good squidding on clearwater days with stronger current and wind. Summer isn't normally a good squidding season but the few days following the odd rough weather are great as large squid will feel comfortable enough to move in schools closer inshore during the light transitions.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    In the summertime, I normally use a standard Egi style jig in traditional Yozuri shape as squid often sit and wait, staring at your jig in the high heat, making it essential for it to maximise the time your lure spends slowly drifting to the bottom. However, sudden cold shifts brought by the odd rainstorm usually create ideal squidding conditions, with cold crystal clear water and a mild surface swell with some light winds. This necessitates the use of heavier jigs or Tip-Run jigs in order to avoid your line drifting quickly and blocking off every person next to you from casting. Try to work your jigs along the bottom as squid will be hiding among the weed beds to grab unsuspecting garfish or tommy ruffs.
    Squid in these conditions will still follow the light transition periods of dawn and dusk as they follow baitfish migrations as a rule in addition to temperature influences. Several scientific journals support that squid will tend to be of much smaller size and in fewer numbers at shallower depths during hotter seasons.
    The bag limit in South Australia for Southern Calamari is 15 per day with no size limit.
    As always a huge thank you to everyone for their outstanding support! The channel has been doing better and better every week and I promise to keep the uploads coming while continuously raising the bar on my work!

      Squid fishing is the bulk of what shines here in SA metro wise. For your bigger/desirable fish, it normally takes a few hours of driving. Snook and whiting are fun to catch and quite easy as long as you have a watercraft and I highly recommend kayak fishing here 👍

    Love the squidding videos! Do you twitch the rod when the jig hits the bottom? and how do you know when the jig hits the bottom, what are the cues?

    • @JEFFISH
      @JEFFISH  Před 4 lety

      In my brighton video I explain this in detail. The gist of it is you reel in till your line is tight and watch it. When the lure hits the bottom, the line will suddenly slack. At that moment flick two or three times while turning the handle once per flick.

    Hi Jeff, just wondering if you ever use a baited float rig from the jetty? Have you found this effective from metro jetties? Thanks

    • @JEFFISH
      @JEFFISH  Před 3 lety

      They generally don't work quite as well as an active presentation but they do work. I usually just have another jig dropped straight down when I am really fishing for a feed.
      I normally don't encourage floating rigs because they inevitably drift and block other fishers and the slower catch rate means they rarely get reeled in. That being said, casting them a short ways down the jetty or far away and reeling in dead slow can work quite well and be less obtrusive.

    • @SB-fd1kv
      @SB-fd1kv Před 3 lety +1

      @@JEFFISH Thanks Jeff, yes i noticed that when i see floats out they drift across other fishing lines, so that can be a problem. The idea of casting and slow retrieve could be a good idea though, Thanks :)

  • @mikal625
    @mikal625 Před 4 lety +1

    in your brighton squidding video you recommended Jbraid, is there a noticeable difference to SPECTRA? otherwise awesome video! I cant wait to see some of the winter squidding!

    • @JEFFISH
      @JEFFISH  Před 4 lety

      J Braid is insanely strong and thin. It casts better and makes noticeably stronger knots with a very good finger feel for handling.
      I use spectra because I can avoid the rocks and snags and I use my drag decently. Also spectra is $5 for 300m and J braid is $40 for the same.

    • @mikal625
      @mikal625 Před 4 lety +1

      Also I'm looking at the 1dfr rod, is it important that it is the 7ft2in 1-2kg or will the 6ft 6-10kg be just as good, I have no idea what I'm looking at when I see all the sizes haha

    • @JEFFISH
      @JEFFISH  Před 4 lety

      @@mikal625 The 6-10kg is way too thick for this kind of fishing. But at the moment the 1dfr is at $169 and overpriced thanks to youtubers mentioning it.
      I highly recommend getting a Zman combo at 1-3kg from anaconda instead at $79.

    • @mikal625
      @mikal625 Před 4 lety +1

    Hello, I see that you do not let the lure sink, but work with him upstairs, do you recommend this method ? Thanks in advance

    • @JEFFISH
      @JEFFISH  Před 3 lety +1

      I actually do let it sink. These are DUO D squids which are 21 grams and they sink very quickly. I always watch my line and when it sags as the lure hits the bottom, I flick the rod.
