- With the seas turning calm again, there's plenty of opportunities to catch some big coldwater squid! In this guide, I showcase tip-running with the DUO D Squid, a technique I find to be most productive for me at the more heavily squidded jetties.
This vid is the first in my series following the channel revamp. I hope you all enjoy yourselves and learn a thing or two!

After years of trial and error, I find that the D-Squid by DUO with its 21grams of weight and stickbait design mixed in with super realistic colours will outperform Yozuri style jigs at Brighton Jetty in all occasions. The Tip-Run method used with such a heavy jig allows you to cover water quickly and steal the attention of squid that are slowly creeping on prey or other lures in the water. Its is an incredibly productive technique. The lure weight also greatly reduces the effect that wind has on your lure and the jig will sink well with the line not creating a bow that blocks other fishermen when it is windy.
The Winter to Spring transition creates much needed calm seas, allowing for the water to finally settle and turn clear. When this happens, all the hungry squid that held out in deep over the winter will come in closer to land hoping to feed. For Brighton jetty specifically, you want to be using fish coloured or shaped squid jigs as the population of prawns is non-existent and baitfish are aplenty.
As long as the water is clear enough for you to see the bottom, the wind and roughness of the sea usually does not matter. Tidal flow is incredibly important, possibly even more so than dawn/sunset light transitions, with the run-out tide and the absolute peak of high tide being the best times. Dodge tides are a personal favourite condition for me to squid at Brighton as they usually break a rough spell and cause new squid to enter.
Dispatch your squid with a strong hand chop to the neck, making sure both the head and body turn white entirely. Do not use an egi spike as they do not guarantee a painless death.
I'm glad to be back :) - Sport
The only downside to bagging out is cleaning them all! Thanks for another great video, very informative as usual!
Welcome back!
Great tips as always and very entertaining to watch. ❤
Great work Jeff! Looking forward to the revamp!
Always a pleasure watching and learning from you,,keep up the good work mate :)

"Lovely people here"
Jeff ~ "Most of the time" 😂
To be honest you should have atleast 50 K subscribers, your information Quality and editing is so good.
I didn't have vids to this standard from the start. Its been a long journey and I still have alot of room to improve :> But thanks tho!
Legend
Cheers for the squid that you gave me man love your Chanel
Thanks and no worries dude! On any other day I would have given you more :>
It seems Brighton is better dor squidding than Port Noarlunga Jetty as the water is more calm. Great video Jeff!!! Nice Ikijime right there too
I would like to ask a question from an absolute beginner. Does run-in tide mean like 3 hrs before high tide?
Keep it coming cheers
Good work again Jeff! I always admire your generosity 👍 When you cast, does it really matter where?
Thx bruh
I was at Brighton this afternoon and noticed most of the squid being caught at the end, looks like that is the hotspot?
Wow! What a catch! You did it in the am, what time? New box, more mouths to feed I guess ..lol. great video
It was 3hrs at 3pm-6pm. It was super fun catching things again!
Really detailed instructions ... Great video !!! Hope I can catch my first squid by following it :)
Hi Terry, as long as you follow what is in the video exactly, you will get your first squid no problem :>
@@JEFFISH is early morning like sunrise time also ok ? Looks most your video was taken at afternoon
@@gterry5107 you want to fish in light transitions, either an hour before or after sunrise or sunset
@@JEFFISH Thanks!
@@JEFFISH I got few today by following it :)
Hi Jeff,I just tried the duo d-squid herring ruff with success.caught six this morning,I used a swivel to attach the lure to my line but is this how you attached your lure to line? Otherwise I’m very happy for your tips :)
Keep up the good work
Hey man :> As a rule, I always use a loop knot for my squid jags and soft plastics. Fish can see swivels, especially land based so I avoid anything beyond just bare line usually.
Very nice, your karate beats have also improved ;)
I wanted to ask what are the lines in the water ???
Crab nets and other squidders lines. There will be at least 200 as the weather gets hotter.
@@JEFFISH wow, I was wondering as well
thanks for the tips mate..... i'll try that next time i go to port hughes
I normally use standard egi style squid jigs when fishing less heavily fishes jetties. The Shimano Sephia Clinch Flash Boost are my top performers in these places.
@@JEFFISH thanks mate, maybe one day i'll have the opprtunity to fish next to you
@@garysantillana9243 A bit difficult nowadays, I hardly have the time to go to any jetty 🤣😅
@@JEFFISH too cold for ya....heading to st kilda channel to get some salmon trout...wife wont let mo go too far hahahaahaha
Hi Jeff, I'm writing to you from Spain. Did you try the Great White color? what do you think about it?
Hey! I think the great white colour is awesome when the water is calmer but the conditions are overcast. Without a bright sun, the white stands out better than a reflective or UV option. 👍
How many did you catch and are they still around
Nice mate
It taste good
I can cook it make “ cumi asam manis”
Indonesian food
Best from Bali
show us different spots in metro Adalaide where we can fish, so I can bring my rod next time I go
what size and class Savage Gear Inshore 1DFR are you running in this video?
The 3-5kg Variant
what were the wind speeds and great video also
The wind speed was around 17km/h this day. You'll be alright anywhere within 4 - 21km/h though.
@@JEFFISH thanks I'm probably going Friday morning so it will be about max

Are the Berley bags for the squid?
Nope :>
Squid don't need berley. Not sure if they even respond to it.
