  • How good is Jetty fishing! Having the chance to fish along The Jetty at Esperance brought back so many memories of days working the Jetty as a kid. Probably should have switched the rods out for hand lines in hindsight ;)
I think a session with the family put on a Jetty has to be one of the best ways to get after some action.
The gear we used today included:
Shimano Stradic 2500 reel on a Shimano BB Hard Rocker rod with 10lb powerpro braid
Shimano 3000 Vanford reel on 3-5kg rod
    Lures
Sure Catch and Daiwa Emeraldas Squid Jigs with a float 1.5m up the leader.

I am a bit behind on your vids John. But what I love the most is the confidence that Tom has got now with lures and handling the rod by himself. He has learnt so much on your trip.

I’m local in Esperance and fish all the time at the jetty it is a beautiful place especially the beaches with really white sand SQUID TIPS: use darker colour squid jigs on really sunny days and really fluorescent colours on cloudy overcast days

Good stuff, I often use different colours but my go to is a red colour with red background my go to brand is Yamashita but I also use the $5 post office ones in plain white which work well top. And I often use S factor sent works a treat.

Been squid fishing for many years my go to jigs are Yamashita during daylight hours i use a 3.5 in blue or a white or green colour before sun up or sun going down i use a glow pink Yamashita and when completely dark i put a UV light over the jig so it glows under water. From the boat same deal but one tip is they respond to berly all so not sure if its all the small fish that come around or the smell of berly anyway good luck they are great eating.

No need to fish that light for squid mate, I do well on 15lb main line and leader which helps pulling big ones up to a jetty. Some people in SA bring crab nets and use those as landing nets. Good luck!
