I did my own bathroom renovation, ceiling, wall lining, tiling, plumbing, painting in a single bathroom house. It took me weeks, (retired woman) I live in the country so washed in a bucket and in the river and used an outdoor toilet. I will never take my bathroom for granted again. I love soaking in the tub after a day in the garden.

Can’t wait to the rest of the makeover. I live in a house that was built in the 80’s, so I to need to redo two bathrooms that I have in my home. My issue in one is that I need to change the knob, it’s an old style, the style that you pull the knob to turn on and move a lever if you will behind it left or right to control the water temp. In the last 3-4 years we’ve had to replace the inside temp control parts, which are hard to find and when we are lucky the don’t last that long. So I know I have to I know I have to replace the pipes in order to change it. The other bathroom I just noticed that there’s some water leaking in the pipes somewhere inside the walls, so I know I’m going to have to replace probably the pipes to and walls, because I’m sure they are probably molded because I don’t know how long this has been going on. So please if your replacing anything in your pipes or fixtures it will help me out if your very specific of every steps, and in what order is best to do them. I would really appreciate it.🙏🏼

It's interesting how much people loved those square ceiling tiles in the '50s and '60s. Pulled out tons of them hiding cracked plaster or that were used to make a "dated" too high ceiling lower or perhaps save on heat. I've always found them stapled to furring strips nailed or screwed into old plaster or fastened to a dropped frame of 2x4's. Your's looks different, they put he drywall up, didn't tape or mud it but just glued the tiles right to the drywall! Lol. Seems like more work to me or they just decided taping and mudding was too much work.

Was your plumbing ready and updated for you before starting??? I've never done a remodel, and I'm seriously contemplating this. My mother has been nagging me to take care of this for her for a while, now. I recently updated her freshwater plumbing to pex, attaching long ends to existing copper, but ready to pull the pex through with the remodel. I will have to get a plumber to update my cast iron drains to pvc when the time comes; should I do it before or during the remodel??? Eager to watch the successive vids....

Please pardon my ignorance if this question comes across as any bit disrespectful to your trade. Your work is really impeccable. Like I’m amazed. I watched your entire time lapse bathroom remodel (Instant subscriber!) and then I came to this video to start at the beginning of the series. I’m in the process of trying to buy a home and I looked at one today that has two bathrooms that definitely have to be remodeled. I thought maybe I could replace the tiles or something LOL I had absolutely no idea how much work went into something like this. So to my question. Roughly speaking, if I were to hire a contractor to do an outstanding, thorough job like you did, do you have any idea how much that would cost from start to finish? I know that’s probably hard to answer because nothing is apples to apples, but I have absolutely no idea. I’m in the Austin Texas area. Again so sorry if that is not an appropriate question to ask in this forum. Thank you very much.

Wear a respirator when dealing with that old Sheetrock/mud. That old stuff has some nasty shit inside both the board and mud even if there’s no asbestos. You’d be surprised how many types of mud from 80s/before test positive for asbestos. I used to do rebuilds for liberty mutual and other insurance companies after floods/fires etc.... most through Serve Pro and Puroclean . They are required to test it all, and so much comes back positive you’d never expect. Even old vinyl flooring or the glue they use on the flooring. It’s absolutely crazy that people knew how bad it was and still imported so much asbestos made materials up until early 80s. Even without the asbestos a respirator and glasses are something you should use whenever you’re creating dust/demoing.
Wearing PPE is annoying- I will admit it but having a chunk of plaster stuck in your eyeball is worse. That dust is horrible to breath in with or without asbestos.

I commented before but why don't you have the door open to the hallway? The bathroom is super tiny, having the door swing into the bathroom limits the space even more. I would know because my bathroom is even smaller. Not that I am able to do any of the things you're doing. I just love to interfere. Also be more careful with your fingers please.
