DIY Bathroom Remodel | First Time Renovation for $4000

My Mom wanted a new bathroom and so I did my best. This was my first time ever doing something like this, so I made a lot of mistakes along the way. Hopefully you can learn from them!
This took roughly 130 hours over 6 weeks. The price breakdown at the end is in Canadian dollars.
Things I'd do differently:
-LEVEL THE FLOOR
-not put ugly trim around backsplash (its only caulked on luckily)
-use a light grey grout for shower floors (for longevity)
-buy a snap cutter (I used a wet saw for every single cut)
-installed a wider niche (I like the niche I just wish it was slightly larger)
-done a smaller gap between profile and tile on horizontal surfaces (curb, bench, niche)

Electricians are such badasses. My dad was an electrician, and he built my childhood home with his buddies!
If you're not lazy and smart like this boy, you can do anything, no matter of your speciality.
@@moondancer81 But it helps to have some sort of speciality in that field, especially when it comes to electrics, as you dont want to be electrocuted when turning on the shower...^^
Still yeah, if your not a double lefthand and have some bwains and coordination and the will to do, learn and improve, you can do it too.
Just get a little info beforehand, plan the thing, think of mistakes and maybe even watch vids like this on how its done and what could go wrong and you're out and about in no time.

Im 41 and a second generation carpenter ,my dad has been a contractor my entire life and all I do is build tile showers I have some on my channel but I just started taking some pictures last year.Your doing very good for your age and I'm impressed with your attention to detail and your video making skills.You have to start somewhere and with confidence in yourself, it will take you along way.If you don't make mistakes you don't learn.Good job kid!!!

How much would a general contractor charge for this do you think?
@@Ryan_Quinn well for starters he did every trades Job! Painters, cheer rock,tile, electrical and on an on! In Northern California just a tile job for a shower like this are around from 3,500 to 5,000 so do you math for the rest of the trades!

@@Ryan_Quinn I've seen a reaction from a contracter in another video, he would charge for a simular bathroom $6000 just for labour!
@@Ryan_Quinn In jersey, a bathroom like this would be upwards of 20-25k. A basic 3 piece acrylic tub enclosure job and tongue and groove LVP flooring on a 5x10 bathroom I was quoted almost 12k by most general contractors.
This was awesome! And the fact that you're only 22 and did that for the FIRST TIME!? Applause. All the praise! I am 28 and own my home and would NEVER be able to do everything you just did. The bathroom turned out great!!! Looking forward to seeing other projects you work on!
I think you did a wonderful job even with the minor flaws. My favorite part about the video is you didn't try and hide them. Being humble and contrite is an almost dead practice. Never lose it
As a mom of four sons (13-3 mo), I can imagine how touched and proud your mom must be-not only at you doing all this for her, but you being capable of doing this for her!
I know she was too, I also have 3 sons 34,32 and 27. I am a well cared for mom/grandma, even if they tell me they would run a boyfriend off! LoL

Who ever designed it i.e. chose the colors, tile, etc. did a wonderful job

I love the fact that you were so honest throughout the whole video. The guys that do this type of work make it look so easy but it definitely takes time to master. I am my own worst critic as well and I HATE when I know something isn't perfect but I've learned I really am the only person who notices it 😄😄

Honestly I am so proud of people my age who are not afraid to get their hands dirty and take on a larger home project on their own, it's such a rare thing these days. It’s not a rare thing these days. You’re just not in the labor industry. And most people don’t have the money and time to hire us/do it themselves. And how many people your age has homes? This is his moms bathroom. Stop saying generational bs like a boom it’s annoying. I hear it enough at work I come to CZcams to ignore that shit.

I am a 20y girl and I come to youtube to feel less lonely and more inspired for the projects I take on because my mum doesn't have that much money to pay someone and cannot do it herself. We all have different perspective and if for you and your life his work and attitude is the norm, for me it's admiring and I think I have the right to say it just like you do. Of course I would enjoy to know more people who do the same without the need to be a part of the industry. Overall I am happy you have such a positive view, that's giving me hope to meet more of yall. But you're kind of rude to tell me what to do :/

@@ersandy4u Nah there is tons of young people who go into trade (like electricity or mining etc) and do such a great job at it, you just don't see it cause these regular jobs are not covered by the media, so many assume our generation is lazy when really it's not.
It's not really a rarity, you just don't see it cause general jobs are not covered by the media or shown in the internet a lot, if your not looking for it. I am 21, and I know so many intelligent young people, there is so many out there and they need to be given more credit.

I don't even have a house yet and I'm intimidated by all the wiring. But the demo looks doable and dry walling etc. looks easier. Great build and thank you for giving me ideas.

I just did the exact same thing on my channel (first time DIY bathroom remodel) so I know the struggles and hard work that you put in 👍💪 The only major difference is that I converted a 1/2 bathroom to a full bathroom. I have been doing remodel work for over 20 years. Turned it into a living and for fun because I enjoy it so much. All the little detail work was really great. Congrats on an amazing job.

I do a lot of work myself but nothing compared to you. I was thinking the same thing as Sarah:maybe I can do it too. Nope, I will def need help with a lot of things you did yourself. Amazing and def an inspiration to keep exploring what I can indeed do myself!
I helped my cousin remodel kitchen and bathroom... It was a lot of work mostly because he could only work with me either Saturday or Sunday since he had his other job... We mostly did the same in bathroom, stripped everything in there and omg I never thought we would finish... It was a lot of work since we didn't have those fancy jackhammers or whatever they are called so I mostly did it by hand that was more time consuming and extra labor intensive but I did it... It went from weird crowded small bathroom to a more modern walk in bathroom... All it needs is a vanity mirror which we are installing soon ... Who knows I may rent up there now lol... I learned a lot and still learning new stuff... I love that he made all light fixtures LED so it's energy efficient ... Next were doing the floors after we are done with painting

I’ve watched many many videos from DIY to sailing and you are a natural! Keep it up. Maybe have two versions of these videos. Some of us enjoy the week by week play and greater explanation detail. But that requires a lot of editing time.
