As a DJI "fanboy," I'm actually super stoked to finally see a video comparison that doesn't include a DJI product. Competition is a great thing for any industry.

Skydio may have better tracking, but Evo 1 out performs it in every other aspect. Evo 2 is hugely better than Skydio 2.
Kelvin that is true, and while I wish skydio has some of the things the evo 2 has, tracking and obstacle avoidance for me is the most important feature. Hopefully I’ll own an Evo some day!

Skydio is not only for tracking. That obstacle avoidance comes in handy when filming other things (the forest and other natural environments that have obstacles)

Another comment. I agree with others that flying a camera drone for most work doesn't require tracking, but to have excellent object avoidance is very comforting. I often find myself flying through trees and trying to get a cinematic shot of a flowing creek or some lovely ferns and to know that my drone will not crash into anything is very nice. I'm sure that the Evo qualifies for this, but the Skydio is just at another level.

As a primarily photographic/cinematographic drone the E2 seems to do a great job avoiding the occasional obstruction. I can't trust my E1 tracking at all so it's a definite improvement. Skydio is basically what the GoPro Karma tried to be and failed miserably at - an action sports drone you can just launch and forget about and let it do its job. I'd love to have both.
Thanks for the test Ken. My feeling is that the EVO 2 is more an all around drone like the Mavic 2. It might not track like a Skydio 2 but it will outshine the Skydio 2 in the all purpose drone category. I am more interested in how the EVO 2 8k does against a Mavic Air 2 and how an EVO 2 Pro does against the Mavic 2 Pro. Stay safe, get well.
The Skydio isn’t for me but I love it’s capabilities, plus the little touch in the app of the blue circle around the tracking target. Great little touch that lets you know it’s still got you. Oh - and love your running up the road 😂😂

Skydio is clearly the winner but the EVO 2 held up to its own. Heck The EVO 2 does 10x better tracking than the original EVO!

In the part where he walked through the woods he had the Skydio set to get in front of him, I kind of wish we saw it with it set behind because I think it was trying really hard there.
Maybe it doesn't care about that setting at times? I'm unfamiliar with the Skydio 2. Still trying to see as many videos as possible to see which is best lol

Nice! Seems like Dynamic Track is over active and needs to be dialed back some. It makes the video look rough and not smooth like the Skydio 2 and Active Track. It's both amazing and scary how fast the tech is moving forward.

Finally someone that tests tracking with some speed. The walking tracking tests you see most of the time are way easier for the hardware.
I do think the tracking beacon of the skydio 2 makes a huge difference simply due to how it is programmed to react to it. EVO 2 seems more of a visual track (hence the jerky movement).

Thanks for the comparison! The best thing about the Skydio system is the beacon. I don't have to carry a bulky controller. I film ATV rides, and didn't want to have watch the controller on the seat next to me. I just put the Beacon in its holder and it works great.
Have you tried tracking another person or vehicle with the controller, and leave the controller by itself? If so what was the outcome. Hooah

I thought the EVO 2 did pretty well, I didn't really expect it to better than Skydio in tracking. I would love to see how the EVO 2 compares to the Mavic 2 as far as tracking is concerned. Great testing.

When you were on foot, the Evo attempted to follow you into some truly dense brush. I was quite simply amazed by how far it got, avoiding some pretty small obstacles. The Skydio gave up and just kind of hoped you'd come back out of the woods. How could you not call that out? Your board footage looked pretty great for both drones, though I think the Evo II could stand to work on smoothing out the tracking footage.
Great video comparison. Im torn between both of these Drones. The Evo 2 has a MUCH longer range and battery life however the Skydio 2 has better tracking. I like both (also the color of the skydio 2 I love!)
Automatic modes.... I always viewed them as a niche feature; I get why some people may want it, but honestly I could care less. IMO a drone being able to avoid an object while manually being flown is 💯x more important and has more practicality than automatic tracking. I think if Skydio can spend more time on their own in-house controller on a Skydio 3, they will have as close to a perfect drone as we have ever seen. Autel has an incredible feature with replaceable / interchangeable camera yet individual camera cost is too steep to justify both. Maybe some people will, but majority will get one or other version. I was hoping Autel would have created a Osmo type grip accessory to mount the removable camera; that would have been incredible. Let’s hope far down the line at least a smart controller with a large screen will come for Autel. Thanks for the comparison Ken.

If you watch other videos showing that the people SkyDio team has been hiring to influence congress you will see that they are trying to get congress to suppress other drone technology. Many of these team members are former military personnel. Now here's my take on it. SkyDio drones cannot do long range flights for the most part its autonomous and can't be used to carry a payload to a target location, mainly because it can't fly very far from the gps tracking controller. With its autonomous tracking technology, it also does not fly very high. It checks all the boxes for a technology that is "safe". Just another example of how corrupt business shut the door of direct competition buy using government restrictions to give them an unfair advantage. This in conjunction with Amazon, Fedex, UPS, Uber, lift all trying to restrict air space for their drone delivery and air taxi services just goes to show you how corrupt our government money is when business come first. They do not recognize that it is the hobbyist that created this technology which is being stolen by big business and shutting them out of their creation. If you go back to 2006 or 2007 in RC groups you may find threads and videos showing the birth of multi-copters technologies created by enthusiastic hobbyist who were into RC helicopters. The way our system in America the only ones that can easily profit by inventions is corporations. The Chinese companies ran with our invention because their government offers them funding to innovate. This is how DJI became the leading drone company in the world and everyone else is just playing catch up. Imagine if the US government had given all the people who were working on the technology in the US in 2006 funding? The fact that SkyDio is one of the main proponents against current DJI EVO etc style drone technologies create a loophole for their technologies to fill while oppression the majority of us from using the drones we have spent our hard earned money on. I will never buy a SkyDio product because of this underhanded business practice.
If you ever wanna sell the Skydio 2 let me know haha. Waiting in batch 3 to finish my purchase but who knows how long it'll be now lol. Been waiting for months.

I'm disappointed to see how easily the Evo II lost you! I was expecting more from a video I had seen out of China a month or two ago. I'm guessing now that was a very edited video. I don't really need tracking but for the money I would expect it to be there if for some reason I needed it! GPS tracking for the Evo II would be a major selling point for them as it is for Skydio.
I think I am going to hold off on the Evo II until I see more testing done on it with it's other features! Great Video Ken! Thanks Bro!

I have both. Skydio2 to me is more suited for personal droning. But for commercial use I'd say the Evo 2.
Evo wasn’t too bad. I’m actually a bit impressed with how well it did. I think it might be another year or more before we see anyone dethrone the skydio 2 as far as obstacle avoidance and tracking. Thanks for the comparison!
I put a order in for the 6k EVO. I ordered from Autelpilot. I went with them because I save on taxes which bought me a extra battery. Now I should have 3 total when it comes. I did notice some places offers the 4 battery Charging Hub and some places dont. Ken, I must ask, should all the bundles come with charging hub? I kind of think they take the charging hub out and sell them separately . Am I wrong to think that?
Autel Pilot has sent me a photo of the Authorized Distributor Certification they pocess. It looks legit. Also a list of all the certified distribution centers and Autel Pilot is listed amongst them. They offered a full refund if I was not happy with the proof they provided. They offered a 30% discount on a charging hub if I decided to keep the order open.

The second gen Autel is getting closer but stil can't compete between DJI overall (handling, features & video quality) and Skydio's tracking (nobody can yet). I want too, but don't necessarily need to see a tracking comparison between DJI's active track 2.0 and Autel's tracking. DJI clearly comes in second, losing from skydio, with that feature.
Autel's battery life seems legit though...
Oh, I tried my EVO 2, u can change tracking position using joysticks in the remote control, which is not bad, cause Skydio’s app control feels a little bit lag.
OriginaldoBo yeah, I checked again, firstly u can’t yawing the drone during tracking, and u can change roll, pitch and height within a min and a max distance(about 4-10meters), if there’s no obstacle around. Well, sometimes it will not stay in that position, cause the obstacles avoidance is in priority.

There always will be a better product coming out. But IMO, I still believe that something like Mavic 3 will be less capable in avoidance technology than Skydio simply because Skydio puts more reserouces and talaent into automated feature. That being said, Mavic 3 will blow Skydio out of the water with Camera/range
Hi, just my thoughts and to reiterate Bo's comment below, these are different types of drone totally, EVO 8k or especially PRO is a Cinematographic drone, the avoidance is an additional feature which it does pretty good at, 8K or 6K pro quality is the basis, the Skydio is made to be a specific avoidance, tracking drone so its like comparing apples with oranges. If you want excellent tracking but not so good video and use it for recreation, sking, boarding then-the skydio is the one, if you want professional video, filming, advertisements, real-estate video, then it's the EVO, pref the PRO. I don't see how you can compare them, its just plain wrong... but both very good, even EVO 1 quality is exceptional as I can vouch for and even it's more limited avoidance is pretty good, not crashed yet... haha. Waiting for PRO to turn up, I'll let you know how they compare.. hope that's some insight and poss help. Very good video and appreciated for the time given to doing it, a firm subscriber now.
Had a bad experience with the Nano+ recently, walking slow, not too complex situation, ample space for the drone, 3m left to treeline, 1m right to a solid wall. Drone veered right without any reason and smacked face first into solid wall. Front propeller broken. Talking to support atm, imho complete failure of obstacle avoidance.
Correct, they are not listed on Autels website... well my gut tells me to cancel and I may go with Droneworks... I feel better about that...

i just love the autel but i see in the wodland if hed of put tracking to the rear on ther skidio i feel would of performed better, but the skidio seems to do a great job. i think it depends where you are as i have seem a viseo one guy doing this near holes in fences and seemed excellent. but depends what you want it for and at the moment tracking on the skidio has it
My focus is on image production. I found Skydio's images too dark when compared to Altel Evo 2. I would choose Altel Evo 2 to shoot.

I did think the Evo did OK though not terrible and the Evo will do so much more in other area’s

No surprises there, as the Skydio 2 is sold with tracking as its key selling point.
The skydio2 tracks much better when the controller or the beacon + phone is used. Both controller and beacon have long range receivers and the GPS tracking is better than the optical tracking. I am surprised the skydio2 got stuck in the woods walk, but then, hard to tell if the beacon is being used or just the phone.
Looks like the drones aren't the only ones with crash avoidance :-) 14:20
I am in the market for a drone without geofencing since I live near the DC SFRA. The Skydio 2+ no doubt is a better cinematographic tracker than is the Autel....however, it seems that most people for some reason prefer the Autel overall. Does it have a better sensor and take better quality videos and stills?
The final video or photo you get from the Autel is far better than the skydio

Hey dude. Did you update your evo 2 to the latest firmware. ( Yes they released a new firmware) If you have not go to auteldrones.com/pages/downloads and follow the instructions to complete the update. I think the release notes say it adds dynamic track 2.0. After that it would be fare to make a part 2 to this video, since your skydio 2 is on the latest firmware( I am assuming)

Ken, first thank you for putting the time and effort to do this testing, very appreciated. I already assumed the results that you found and I'm sure most of us did. I was actually happily impressed with the Evo even though it doesn't touch the Skydio in tracking. I think the most shocking thing you said was the compliment of the Skydio's camera. I did not expect that. Sorry to be political, but in the light of recent events I am finding it harder and harder to buy Chinese and I don't mean dinner.

I don't want to be holding a large controller when running or biking just to have the autel evo 2 track me. Skydio wins. I can have the skydio follow me using just the phone.

You bought another Skydio 2? I'm not surprised that it's the best for tracking. Great shooting style. But it has far too many limitations for everything else as you and even other reviewers have demonstrated. That's unfortunate because it's a great looking drone. I hope this Skydio 3 will be competitive to the EVO 2 Pro when they release it.

Sydio is definitely better at tracking subjects, but in all other areas it pales in comparrison to DJI and Autel.
What's up Dobo my personal opinion the evo brand itself is a DJI knock off nothing about it is impressive so what would I be paying such a crazy price for
First Evo dynamic track Evo lost you behing the tree. But i think evo better performed when you were walking through bushes while skydio flew behind the tree and totally lost you. The other thing is the video quality of both. Maybe this is youtube vid compresing thing but i was not impressed with image quality.
Autel make great drones but the dynamic track needs work

@@francescoarduini4310 I fly my Evo 2 at night, in pitch black in the desert. No problems. It even has a landing light that lights up the ground as you land.
Just to explain this a little more clearly in case anyone is curious about this- the EVO 2 doesn't have any kind of GEO Fencing support or flight restrictions in the software. DJI drones are very locked down, and Im guessing that the Skydio also has geo fencing, so it is not able to fly in some areas. Incidently, being able to fly the EVO 2, wherever, whenever you want is extremely liberating.

Tough, I care about both image quality and the tracking. The skydio obviously has the better tracking. Video looks so much nicer from the evo2. I wonder what a firmware upgrade will get on the tracking.

If it ain't made in China then Either one is a good choice. Evo 2 Pro for this guy if I decide to purchase a new Drone. DJI is out of the game now. They make awesome Drones but Not made in the USA . Screw them.
OriginaldoBo no, Evo is an American company owned by a bigger Chinese company and yes they make those in China but their HeadQuartes are still in the United States.
Skydio 2 no question, very useable shots and fantastic angles. The autel was very dissapointing. Even,DJI active track is way better than autel.
