Autel Evo 2 Gets Crashed While in Dynamic Track Mode

Well, I finally broke it. I pushed it to it's limits and the Autel Evo 2 Drone has met it's match. Obstacle avoidance can only get you so far when the obstacle is a wire. The same match all drones eventually meet. The dreaded wire of doom. Dynamic tracking mode works great, but as the faster you go, and the more wind, and the more wires you encounter, the limits of the drone can be seen.
I purposely put my drones in precarious situations, so I can see how far I can push them. The dynamic track still has a long way to go before it's crash proof, but here we look at a little closer example of what is possible when using Dynamic Track while riding my Evolve Board.
I love that the camera and drone can take a decent beating. I crashed my Mavic Pro last week from 1 foot up into some leaves and it broke 2 props off.

I would not be happy to even attempt to try to intentionally crash it.
The instruction manual very clearly states the obstacle avoidance will not detect small wires.
This crash result was a forgone conclusion.

Most of all the obstacles avoidance drone can't be catch the small wire such as skydio2, Mavic2 , .......
I think possible to make detect small wire because of active tracking 3.0 Mavic Air 2 I'm really expectation.
@@TECH-fi8xo Unfortunately, ActiveTrack 3.0 on MA2 is much worse because of the lack of side/up sensors. There are already videos on YT with the MA2 crashing during ActiveTrack session with wires; one CZcamsr crashed his MA2 on a road sign (the Mavic detected it but the ActiveTrack mode still crashed the drone onto the sign). I experience the same tracking issues that you do. In my last case it was not wind, nor contrast. I asked the Evo 2 to dynamic track or parallel track a bright red Jeep against a white ground (Black Rock playa in Nevada - large dry lake bed). Even with the Jeep filling 1/4 of the view frame, it would lose me at 10 mph or even less after 10 seconds or so.
Thanks for doing these real world examples. Other reviewers post only the easiest of tests. The dynamic track was looking pretty promising until the end and then it started performing like it does on the Evo 1, all the time. Curious what the new mavic which might be announced on Monday will bring to the table.
Awesome video, was there ever a firmware to fix the issue? Also, does it avoid obstacles like DJI APAS in regular mode or only in dynamic track mode?
The small obj, dark color, no texture OMG), I also tested with DJI and Skydio, well, I can tell u that it’s even harder to handle horizontal wires(due to the stereo match algorithm), anyway, fly safe, every crash will leads to some binocular extrinsic changes. But I think EVO2 got auto-calibration for their 12 cameras, that won’t be a big deal.
Next we try again giant panes of glass. 😆
Did Autel get back to you or comment on why it would recognize the wires. With a DJI product you can export the flight data that is in certain drones which would show everything for their engineering staff to analyze.
The obstacle avoidance on this drone is awesome! I don't think that's a good measurement of a fail since Autel states that it won't detect power lines.

Yeah, I think the object avoidance is actually really good. How it avoided some of those branches last second, just amazing. This is only going to get better over time as the software gets better. I also wouldn’t rule out tracking with 4K 60 in the future. As I’m sure they know that everybody wants it and if it’s humanly possible that something they can add via software firmware, I think they will do it. Though, as is, it’s pretty amazing how well it followed you. I’m just wondering if you cleaned the sensors off after you crashed it. If that couldn’t of been some of the issues later on. Because it was working damn near perfect up until that point in time. So either you damaged something or something was dirty and couldn’t view you. Regardless, I’m really impressed. I haven’t tried the tracking yet on mine.
I wonder if recent software updates fixed the issues. The camera-movements don't look so smooth in some settings, because the drone bounces back and forth, the corrections are to hard.

Very good review of this mode. I wonder if ur clothing was an issue. If u redo this test try wear something in contrast to that cement path. U kind of blend in to the background. Maybe a fluorescent green shirt or red shirt or something like that.
I think wind is a bigger issue. Makes the drone kinda bob.
Make the same test wearing color clothing different from the pavement...red or orange...I bet it will not loose track
Certainly tracking is dependent on things like light/contrast/textures, but so far it's pretty good.
Another great video on the Autel Evo 2. Love the Street Fighter addon. Like to see range test in urban areas and more obstacle avoidance. Does it avoid obstacles on return home?
This things needs to put up a fight to compete, for sure.
It's pretty clear from all the videos that Skydio2 has AI to search out lost objects and alternate routes. So far Skydio2 Is the only drone I have seen I would consider for ski snowboard.
Also it's clear the horozonatal wires especially near horizon are had for both visual systems to pick up.
The suprises for me was just how well it found a way to track under both low trees and the picnic building. Very impressive. For non extreme sports EVO II will do a good job.
I really hope they all push this tech further. The future is going to be amazing.
It does a pretty good job of centering the subject, skydio usually had subject in the corners left or right, I like it’s tracking, but I’m looking to see how dji have improved on Mavic Air.
I love my Air. I wonder how much better the new one will be.

Skydio 2 has the same problem. Small wires and tree branches not 1/2 inch in diameter.
Seemed to lose Performance after the crash. Mine is doing great but I haven't gone as fast as you. I did drive my car and it followed great up to about 12 mph then couldn't keep up. Good video

Was this before or after the latest firmware update? If it is before you did the newer update does the tracking mode work any better?
Great video, sad for Evo 2 not so excited about getting it. Had very high expectations of filming my dog playing catch with a Frisbee, and ball etc. If you don't mind what are your thoughts on my having success using it for that. She is a Belgium Malioise very athletic and quick. Would value your opinion.
I bet a dog would be too fast for this to track, too many rapid turns. Unless you use tripod mode tracking
@@wildwedding You probably saved me a lot of money. That would be the main reason for me to make that jump. I want to buy American. The Mavic Air 2 is a lot less money and i have the same chance to track my pup with the ActiveTrack 3.0 reworked.
WARNING: obstacle avoidance system does not work at night...Pilot error admitted....little did i know that those are cameras that need light to see and sense objects...

@Lon Denard - Hey buddy,...oh yeah,...I have HUGE plans for a massive EVO-II Pro imaging system tear down. It's going to be my first video in a brand new channel. I'm going to dissect that bad boy nine ways to Sunday. I have some really cool camera tests planned for it. It's going to be a pixel peepers dream video. I'm going to try and work with Autel on some of the crazy questions I have. Let's see if they play ball with me. I have HUGE expectations for that camera. I know exactly what that IMX383 can do. Let's see if their image processor can keep up with that sensor.

Seemed like it did great and all you were hoping for was failure.
I certainly don’t ever want expensive gear to fail. But I do need to know where it’s absolute limit is. And I have found it. The drone is amazing.
Maybe when you crashed it you damaged it in some way. This would account for the difference in going around that course.

I haven't gotten one of the pros yet, but since it's all the same, except the camera, it's probably the same as this.

I'm very disappointment when during the crash of wire cable actually I already ordered this drone but I'm thinking refund maybe Mavic air 2 much better that EVO2 .
The air has less sensors, so I think this is about as good as it will be for a bit.
