I've been running around with the Autel drone for a few weeks now, and working hard to figure out how to get the best image out of the terrific sensor. The resolution of the image is looking great, but I've been seeing tons of videos online where the picture is just not looking pretty, and I set out to try and figure out why.
Turns out, the tools inside the drone are very much working against us for picture quality. Here, I break down how each picture profile affects the image, and how to avoid flying around, only to discovery your image quality is poop.
Shooting in Log is the answer. Autel seems to have gimped the other modes with a terrible high contrast image that you can't fix. So here, we'll see how to shoot in log, and how to get our image back, to ensure it's as amazing as this drone is.

Did you have any luck getting 10-bit footage out of the Evo? I'm still searching for a setting...

By far (like not even close) the best most useful evo 2 video out there.

I'll try to do a couple more useful ones. There's a few things I'm trying to figure out still.

A very objective critique of the Evo 2 8k camera, and even better, you have suggested solutions for Autel to address.
Putting that aside, after applying your LUT I thought the Evo 2 8k's images from its 0.5" sensor were outstanding.

Agreed. Going to be flying this as a first option much more than previous. Shaping up nicely.

What a great video and thanks for the LUTS! I was hand-plotting Zone-system graphs back in the '80s so this really makes sense to me.

So shooting in log then most changes during post production?

Creators and engineers don't work together as much as they should. This drone is close to being supremely awesome.

@@wildwedding. I once heard that, in the tech world, the two most dangerous people are a programmer with a soldering iron and an end user with an idea. Hopefully, Autel is listening and taking notes. They should send you an Evo 2 Pro to review. I'm watching closely to decide between the two models. Jess

Hi Adam, I watched your entire video, but I am a little confused about your final log settings... did you settle with sharpness at -2... basically I am just asking what you settled at for all the log settings in the autel app.. and yes I know not to bother with the saturation settings as they do nothing.. and not to bother with contrast there either.. thank you..

I'm doing another video between mavic pro, mavic air (1) and Evo 2, just to compare how the image looks when shooting flatter. In the end, they can all do amazing things, and you can't go wrong.

on the evo 1the none profile is great the blacks are not crushed ,maybe they should tweak it the the evo 2 profile to the evo,. Also use dual stability when yawning on the evo2, it not as touchy.

you need some affiliate links. i refuse to buy an evo 2 unless you get credit for it. don't just do amazon though. bhphoto pays 2%. albeit, i'm no expert as amazon closed mine down and sent me a check for $0.39.

I don't see this as a problem when you get this same thing with all other drones and even worst,it's like you looking for a error in what's not even a error.if you have you drone set as factory from out the box you won't see that, cause out the box the drone colour schematics are far less contrast as you have there.

Clear you know what you are doing. Not quite there as a teacher.
My other comment is that common to pixel peepers. The personal is stated as absolute. While you love to peep shadows, you didn't mind a blown out sky with a sun lost in clipped region many times the sun's size.
In the end I suspect the 6k will be better for peepers.
For me that is totally una acceptable and way more obvious an image flaw.
The main thing is shoot in LOG but expose to personal priorities. For me mangled skies a giant negative.

      K. Edwards this was a very confusing statement. And @adam was necessarily teaching but showing how the drone works

    • @wildwedding
      @wildwedding  Před 4 lety

I bet someone learned something. But yeah, for me, this is a clear issue. But you can't expose for literally pointing at the sun.
