The team we have now also play with heart! We got to the 2018 World Cup semi’s and euro final! More than what this team did but it’s my opinion 🤷🏻♂️ England team from 96-2006 had so much potential to be the best but blew it every time! 2007-2016 well let’s not go into that 🤣🤣
David Coleman was iconic, and Gerald Sinstadt was also very good.. But Barry Davies was always far and away the best, not least because he never fell into the trap of "commentating" for the entire 90 minutes. By way of comparison, many was the match I was reduced to watching with the volume turned off thanks to the constant jabber of the insufferable John Motson

Oman Biiyik made a mistake...he should have gone Shilton not fired at straight at him...no its not easy but he should have gone beyond him...A great world cup match and Platt's goal in the first half plus Shilton's save at 0-0 was a banker...kept England with a purchase in the game when they were really outplayed for most of the contest...

Go see what he did in the Final when he called a very dubious penalty in a 0-0 game with 5 minutes to play. Also the semi-final between Argentina and Italy was nearly decided by a crooked referee who it turns out had been paid off by the Italians.
Think 2002 world cup had the worst officials, or they picked the worst for the knock out games. Referee for Korea v Italy turned out to be an actual crook in 2010, drug smuggler 😀

Are you not aware of the rules regarding penalty shootouts? Every single player on the pitch must take a penalty before the same player can take it again.

The referee (Alan Snoddy from Northern Ireland) didn't let them get away with it. It led to the rule change about leaving the pitch after treatment. So please stop this nonsense about the referee favouring England. At the time English fans were smashing up every Italian city they played in, if anything it would be England they wanted out.

I have difficulty judging the first England penalty (although it seems that Lineker falls willingly), but the second one was certainly very easily given. When I play it slowly it even seems that Lineker touches the goal keeper instead of the other way round. I have to say, I have always thought of Lineker as a great player (and still do), but in this match it seems he played like a theater player. Like players that fall easily like Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez. Absolutely un-Englandlike and frankly quite disgusting.
Referee help as always is the only way England have advanced past the quarterfinals of the World Cup or Euro. Despite this they have still been too mediocre to win anything in the last 50 years. In this game the referee kept giving away penalty kicks in England's favor. Were it not for those referee gifts England would have been out of the cup again.

In terms of excitement one of the best of a poor world cup on the pitch, Spain vs Yugoslavia in the last 16 was good but not much else.
