Rasheed Wallace's 60-foot circus shot at the buzzer needs a deep rewind

- The Denver Nuggets have the ball up 3 points with just over a second remaining, which means this game is over. But just for fun, let's check in on two teams, the Nuggets and the Detroit Pistons, undergoing interesting transition years ... and let's talk about Rasheed Wallace, perhaps the guy most equipped to surprise us right now.

Between this, the Collapse video, the Malice at the Palace Rewinder, the Tayshaun Prince block Rewinder, and the Rasheed Wallace/refs Beef History, I feel like I have a master's degree in the 2000s Pistons
That's what I really remember"sheed"for, his constant back & forth w/the refs! I believe if he would've just played his career would have been more memorable....to me anyway🤔!
I mean a master's degree in the 2000s Pistons could also lead to more interesting one, like a degree in Jailblazers (Sheed's ready, the Blazers rewinder both in "The Memorial Day Miracle" and their game 7 kerfuffle against the Lakers, and their Collapse)
That’s a great degree to have
Yes
Are you from MI Aaron?
I remember watching this on TV when it happened with my late brother. We couldn't believe what we had just witnessed and started laughing our asses off at the absurdity of it. He was a huge fan of the Rasheed, and I was always stanning for Ben Wallace.
When my brother passed, I stopped watching basketball altogether. It wasn't the same without him. And I hadn't thought of this particular bit in years! Lol, thank you so much for the nostalgia trip. 😄
Did they win the game in OT? It wasn’t mentioned in the video so I’m guessing not
@@s.h.723 they did. Seth says it in the outro
I’m sorry for your loss bud ❤️
@@JDub3799 haha i should have waited

BALL DON'T LIE! Sheeds a hero and doesn't get the love he deserves.
Facts.... one of underrated pfs in the 2000s
A "hero"? 🤣😂😂😂😂🤣... A hero... sigh.
@@SteveFrench_420 yea, hero is a pretty strong word just for someone who was really good at basketball
Could've been the best PF ever, if he cared enough.
@@steph_566 definitely. I mean, he's one helluva baller, but "hero"? That's a little much.
Dude got T’s and chucked 3’s
He was a 3 and T player lol
@@dallinferguson994 That is the best and most accurate descriptions of 'Sheed ever, and I will use this from now on.
"Welcome to a moment in history" never fails to send chills through My body.
Shout out to Sheed's long and illustrious career with the Atlanta Hawks.
The man had his best PPG avg in ATL - all of one game lol
Better than Melos
I remember that trade
Instant Hawks HoFer for those career avgs
He won a championship that year with Detroit right!! After that one game stint with the hawks
The 2006-07 Denver Nuggets went through a pretty eventful season
- Lost Kenyon Martin after two games due to a season ending knee injury
- Got into that huge brawl on the court against the Knicks that got Melo suspended for 15 games and JR Smith suspended for 10 games
- The day after the suspensions were announced they traded for Allen Iverson
- Thought they had this game won until they witnessed Rasheed knock it in from long range
- And they still made the playoffs with a 45-37 record and had to go 10-1 in their last 11 games to get in
Was a great season loved that era of the nuggs
While battling the 2000s Western (which includes just in their division only, a rising Jazz, Kevin Garnett and the Wolves, and looking wider there's Suns, Mavs, Spurs, and even more individual greatness a la Lakers). Scratching 45 with that much trouble is crazy.
Also beat the Spurs (which would go on to win the title) in game 1 of the 1st round & lost next 4
@@ryanmahon1i heard melo doesn’t get love from nugget fans and the city in general though.
During the Pistons era, when Rasheed hit a three, the fans shouted "Sheeeeed!" Also, I remember him hitting with his left hand, which is not his dominant arm, for some reason when he hit threes.
he hit one in the all star game shooting lefty for fun but wouldn’t do it in actual games
@@xbeeslebossx he did , I rmb him shooting some 3 with his left but didn’t see him make one in game
Must be why his 3 point percentage is below average at 31%.
@@ItIsYouAreNotYour this was pre-curry. 31 percent for a big man was not common
@@ItIsYouAreNotYour you’re young, huh?
there will never be another Rasheed Wallace lmao one of a kind
Now a days you would get suspended for saying ball don't lie.
@@talon2rell remember Duncan getting ejected while not being on the court and also not having even looked at the ref 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 They just don't know about the 2000s NBA
His pouting & whining & back & forth w/the refs really clouded his game for me. He left a lot to b desired cause he could play.....but all the extra antics got in the way!!!
Absolutely, he's a hall of famer in my mind
So many pistons fans talk About seeing this live. It was a time when you couldn’t turn off the game even when “it was over”
Laker fan here who watched it live too. Had no idea why I didn’t turn it off - Couldn’t believe what I was witnessing
The 2k Pistons were a juggernaut of epic proportions. People don't realize they went to 6 straight ECFs during their impressive run. We sort of expected them to get to the ECF on default. And when Billups was traded that ended this team, almost like a curse. They're only starting to dig out from that move now.
Narrator: “Look around the floor and you’ll see this not the same Pistons [from 2004]”
Us: We can’t, look at the quality 😭😂
Hey that vaguely black and white blob is clearly who he's talking about!

YYYYYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ah yes. The days before high def was the norm.
It would’ve been nice if they named the players on the court.
That call is just incredible too, it's awesome when a moment is so cool that the announcers lose all semblance of decorum and turn into children hootin and hollerin at something unbelievably spectacular
This also might have been the local tv broadcast but yeah. Love when they lost it haha
The Red Sox ending the Bambino curse in 2004 deserves a deep rewind
Bro I was at this game live. I remember Piston fans leaving and I'm sitting there with my cousin saying it's not over until it's over. The place went crazy when he made that shot!
We really need a rewinder on dame's okc shot. There was SO MUCH trash talk from okc before that shot.
Would be the best rewind
For real
Fun Fact - since those Playoffs OKC has 3 playoff wins and Trailblazers also only have 3 playoff wins yet OKC has a boat load of draft picks, SGA, and Giddey, with a better long term future. The winner of that shot was definitely OKC.
i was literally just thinking about how i wanted Seth Rosenthal to tell me an interesting basketball story this is uncanny
Thank god it was Seth too. Too great of an occasion to not have him commenting It.
I was at this game with my dad, but was on the outside steps leaving when we heard the roar of the crowd. Us, along with hundreds of fans rushed back in to watch the overtime (from even better seats).
Did they win in OT?
@@claytonp.4725 13:26 they did
MY guy Rasheed is so underrated. Techs overshadowed his career
You pretty much gave the reason why he’s slept on in your second sentence.
I think he's rated just fine. 14.4 pts, 6.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 33.6% from 3. 72% from the line.
Don't forget to constant pouting, whining, & bickering w/the refs. He truly left a lot to b desired w/his game!!
@@ItIsYouAreNotYour i meant his stats in his prime. career averages don't really mean anything sometimes.
Dude the 2000’s pistons were a fun time. Even though they came out with only 1 championship during that time it was a damn good time being a pistons fan.
Ikr 💯 should have back to back tho 💯💪🤞🏼💯
Sheed not guarding Horry still sends shivers down my spine. But I love him anyway.
I love that we got back to back rewinds for the mid 2000s Pistons
They should've been a more dominant team than they were, but"sheed's"constant back & forth w/the refs really hurt that. That's what I remember him for.
@@theALMIGHTY987 his on and off the court crusade to challenge an authority that we now know was in fact malevolent is one of the top reasons why he’s my second favorite ball player of all time. (First fav is the other Wallace)
@@ggsbruhlmao2460 Who is this"malevolent authority"you're speaking of? Didn't the rest of the players in the league have to deal w/this menacing figure also🤔? That"crusade"u speak of dominated his career......instead of his🏀play, SAD!!!
I remember watching this game with my grandfather. I was thinking about him last night. You definitely earned a subscriber 🙏
I had the pleasure of watching Rasheed Wallace play basketball for Detroit for several seasons. The man is a freaking legend here.
I remember catching this game on television live during the final moments. It’s crazy how this relatively unimportant regular season game has stood the test of time. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.
I was at this game, and I'll never forget it. Friends were begging to leave and beat traffic and I said never leave early because that's for punk asses. Sheed drained this shot and every person on their way out scrambled back to snatch up random seats. Look at any OT footage compared to the 4th quarter, nobody's in the same place in the stands. We stayed in our spot. And that's why you never leave early people, because Sheed might just drain a 60ft shot on an inbounds steal.
I mean... did you take advantage of the open seats to move up before overtime started (if you were in a good section to do so)?
The 2008 National Championship. Kansas vs. Memphis. Mario's Miracle deserves a Deep Rewind video.
That collapse by Memphis was such a head scratcher. Even with prime D-Rose, I dunno how Kansas came back
@@MarloSoBalJr You have to give credit to Kansas. Yes, Memphis made some mistakes that gave Kansas opportunities. But Kansas had to take advantage of those opportunities. In the last two minutes of the game Kansas made the plays that they *had* to make in order give themselves a chance. Darrell Arthur had to hit a jumper just inside the three-point line, which is outside of his normal range to cut it to a 7-point lead. Then Collins had to steal the inbounds pass and then knock down a three from the corner to get it to four. Chalmers had to hit a pair of clutch free-throws (on a one and one situation); Arthur hit a tough turnaround jumper with defender right in his face and then the clutch three to send it to OT. Then Kansas executed better in the OT to win it.
That was a great tournament that year with all number one seeds getting to the Final Four for the first time ever and the only time that has happened to this point. A Curry led 10 seed Davidson team made it to the Elite Eight. There were buzzer beating game winners throughout the tournament and you top it off with an OT Final. Underrated tournament in my opinion and an underrated tournament moment as well. "Chalmers for the tie..." Mario's Miracle.
Right before my work shift
Thanks Secret Base, y'all as clutch as this moment
Damn they dont have wifi at the Popeyes you work at?
Man you don't know how much I love these Rewinder videos, the way you tell the whole story and context of specific moments in sports history, but hell, it would be just great if you didn't just end them like that with a replay of the moment itself, and instead you told us a little about the aftermath of that moment, about what happened after, how the players involved reacted, how the sports world reacted, how the moments after that moment were, etc., just to give us a little sense of closure about that story.
2004 pistons, or simply early 2000s pistons easily the most underrated championship calliber squad ever for me
I want to see today's players try to meet Sheed in the paint. His style of play is so underrated. Him, Big Ben, Rodman, Oakley, etc. The day of the enforcer is gone and it's a shame.
Don’t forget Anthony Mason and Rick Mahorn

@@smokeybeartribute Joe Dumars would undoubtedly lock Steph Curry up

@@brendanables7367 Wouldn't say undoubtedly because I don't think any player in history is locking up Steph completely (same for the other all time offensive engines because at a certain great offence > great defence) but he would do a damn good job.
The build-up in this vid was well done. Nice job, Seth.
Fun Stat, this team has 3 rewinders involved. The consistency of this team to reach ECF is insane
Wish I grew up in that era, instead I got Rodney stuckey 😒
Ahhh the good old days, Thanks secret base for the rewind to my going-to-work Pistons. That squad struck fear in teams. Each player had an element beat teams every night. True defense true teamwork, true blue collar Pistons.
Every time I see Rasheed Wallace I think of that shot to this day. Another thing worth mentioning is the Denver Nuggets had not won in Detroit in over a decade and the significance alone of ending that streak was important to the team as well (Carmelo had never won in Detroit up to that point either).
Sheed played for 3 different teams in one NBA season...
Legendary!
Sneakily some of your most polished and well researched work, great job Seth.

You guys produce seriously great content. Thank you!
Started watching early 2000s basketball because of the champion Pistons and Spurs. I loved teamwork and the way they played defense as the key to their success.
Ben Wallace is really the greatest defender ever and didn't get named to the top 75 list. Says a lot about NBA media.
Melo making the 75th anniversary team says the media is too heavily based in NYC. I love Melo, but he's definitely the most questionable pick on that list.
@@selanryn5849 Funny how you say he's the most questionable and does not include CP3 and Westbrook.
@@selanryn5849 Nah Melo has done enough to belong on the lower end of that list, there are some guys from the 50's-70's that definitely don't deserve it now, and you can definitely argue that he's done more than Dame has currently.
@@uncleusuh Because CP3 and Russ have simply had greater careers than Melo? Like accolades wise CP3 and Russ defintely beat Melo, funny enough Melo's one of the few greats on this list who've won less than Russ or CP3, at their best their offensive outputs were equal to or exceeding Melos (CP3 roughly equal Russ at his peak clearly exceeded Melo's offensive output), and on defence CP3 clears.
@@selanryn5849 If Carmelo Anthony had a different name we wouldn't even remember his good past seasons.
Karl didn’t call a timeout to draw up a play per se. He called the timeout to advance the ball. It was the right play.

Please do Jokic's super-awkward game-winning buzzer beater against Dallas in 2019: right after Luka hit a monster contact dunk giving the Mavs a 1-point lead, but also missed the ensuing free throw. Luka shed a couple of tears after that one.
Alternatively: Iggy's game-winning fadeaway against OKC in 2013!

You know what's coming yet it still puts a grin on your face when it occurs.
Deep rewind viewer prep/setting the stage was excellent, as is the norm. Truly a great job because I didn't like Rasheed, his game or his attitude much back then, but for the purposes of this rewind history, you made me his biggest fan.
Impressive, bullseye.
Strange how that works.
Thanks for dropping so much heat recently keep it up
The announcer's voice crack always gives me LIFE.
Pause at 2:45 ! The fact that the GREAT hall of fame center Ben Wallace is just a little taller than Rip and Chauncey is AMAZING !!!! Hard work pays off.
Sheed. He was insane to watch. You could feel how amazing he was.The best player I've ever seen. Control a game on both ends for 10 minutes, then get bored.
Another great video like always. Only other thing I would’ve liked to see mentioned in this video is that the Pistons notoriously passed on Carmelo Anthony in the 2003 draft to draft Darko Millic instead, altering the future of the Pistons ultimately who could’ve formed a genuine dynasty. I actually think Chauncey recently said he fully thought Melo was gonna join the Pistons and would’ve won multiple championships all together. Thought this would’ve been good to mention since this classic Rasheed buzzer beater was against Melo’s Nuggets (also Chauncey and Iverson later got traded for each other).
very true
Great work Seth! Always glad to see more Pistons greatness, and shout out to Detroit Bad Boys!

Rip Hamilton was so underrated IMHO. Great puzzle piece to any team.
I watched this game live. On the last possession, I decided to watch it even though I all but knew the game was over, because in the back of my head, I was thinking, what if someone stole this pass and made a half court shot? Lo and behold, Sheed went ahead and did just that 😂
Wow lol
"Jr Smith blazing off the bench" I see what you did there secret base
awesome video!
I had just gotten off work on this night & I checked the score on gamecast. It was just heading to overtime. I open the game log & it said “Rasheed Wallace makes 62 foot 3 point shot” at 0.0. Given the context, I’d pretty much concluded that was a typo; it often was-like, gamecast frequently says “end of game” without saying a buzzer beater occurred or adjusting the score accordingly. At that point I turned on the game to realize to my amazement that I’d been mistaken. I didn’t see it live but I’ve probably watched this play a 1,000 times anyway. And been waiting 15+ years (and counting) to get any of the Denver feeds of this play…they have to exist somewhere!
No kidding. How is that hockeytown cafe and they had a WWE contest because this was doing WrestleMania we can Detroit and they had shown the game but it was about to cut off because they were losing at the very last second they kept the game rolling because Rasheed Wallace made that three and we was all cheering.
Rasheed was great back then, but if he played now, with that length, his rim protection and ability to switch, plus his 3 point shooting, he'd be a top 5 player in the league.
That Pistons Team Had One Of The Greatest 5+ Year Runs Ever
this is the best series on youtube
I'm pretty sure I watched this game live and it was the most insane thing I ever saw
Pistons were used to stuff like this. Chauncey Billups in that classic 3OT playoff game 5 vs the nets almost 2 decades ago banked in a 40 foot 3-pointer to send that game to its 1st of the aforementioned 3 OTs. This team era was unlike many other in NBA history because of how dominant they were with no standout superstar & the fact that teams literally struggled to score 70 points vs their defense when they were at their apex. Great era
a race car vhs tape rewinder?! im sold, you didnt have to do a single other thing,
There are hundreds of crowd members with their backs turned to the action as that ball went in. Thousands exited already. It's wild that a minority of the crowd remained to watch that.
My dad and I were in the parking lot when this happened. They had no business winning this game, so the fact they somehow won it was amazing.
Also, my dad and I also left early from the Palace brawl game 😂
I've always felt that in another life, Sheed was the 11th member of Wu Tang

You have to do a rewinder on that Billups shot against the Nets if you haven’t yet. Probably the best play of his career.
I remember this game like yesterday growing up in Michigan the pistons were everything!
Both teams played hard
Great work as always! I wish ya'll would settle the Harold Baines debate on his HOF worthiness. Ya'll are the only ones who can make sense out of it.
