- An 11-year-old Florida girl captured on surveillance video fighting off a man armed with a knife during an attempted kidnapping says she learned what to do from watching “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Police say Alyssa Bonal smeared “blue slime” she was playing with on the suspect’s arm during the alleged kidnapping attempt Tuesday at a bus stop. It became key evidence in the alleged kidnapper's arrest, according to authorities. “SVU” star Mariska Hargitay praised the girl on Instagram. #InsideEdition

Law and Order also helped me when I was raped 9 years ago. There was an episode where the victim didn't want to report the assult, and detective Olivia Benson told her to put the clothes she had been wearing in a bag, so there would be evidence if she changed her mind. Though I had always watched the show and thought to myself, "I would fight back and tell police immediately if that ever happened to me", that just didn't end up being how my brain responded to trauma. After the assult, I told myself I would carry this secret to my grave... but, when I got home to shower, I remembered what Benson said in that episode. I saved the only pieces of evidence I would end up having, "just in case". My parents picked up on my dramatic shift in mood, and I ended up telling them about it. They convinced me to tell police. Detectives later discovered he had two prior victims before me who had been too afraid to speak up.
He eventually took a plea deal and served some time. He was just resently locked back up for violating probation.
If I hadnt seen that episode, I would have had no proof to support my claims, and he likely would not have changed his original claim of innocence.
i hope you’re doing better now! thank you for sharing though, and spreading this tip
I’m so sorry you went through that and were able to put that knowledge to use. I can’t watch that show as it desensitizes me to some stuff but I’m glad it can some.
:0!!!! Omg..I’m so sorry what happened to you I hope your doing good
Thank you for sharing this. To note, according to the 1996 ruling on this; not only can this be used in your case against your attacker but also any other victims of that person. So even if you never press charges, that evidence can still be used.
Jesus Christ I'm so sorry that happened to you keep fighting the good fight sister ✊🏽

@@brandondetroitfanmichaels4325 it’s true she didn’t save anybody else only hers
to the people saying she didn’t save anyone but herself - i disagree.
1 - putting out this information on how to identify an attacker could help so many people. this could help teach people how to plant evidence that would connect the perp to their crime. this video right here is a great example. another example is the surviving victim of the australian criminals the Birnies - the surviving victim did everything possible to make SURE law enforcement would know she was there. she left things behind in hidden places, remembered what movie was in the VCR, took careful analysis of her surroundings which ALL helped the police capture this couple was abducting, r*ping, and murdering young women
2 - this man was captured. that itself could help who knows many people this could keep safe. if he is in custody he cannot hurt anyone. who knows how many times he has attempted this before. people like this only continue to escalate, so i really hope the justice system does the right thing by keeping this man behind bars for as long as possible.
so yeah, she really did save so many people.

@@outofservice7912 Watchmen vibes, specifically the scene with the child predator
So I don't understand how people can be so dense but this was clearly a spur of the moment decision without any real plan.the man was scattered, and obviously frantic over what he was doing. If someone had done this before they wouldn't do it In this way, without a plan. They also would be cool calm and collected. The visual evidence supports this being his first attempt at such a crime, though you will likely find CP and other types of porn on his electronics and a past criminal record not related to sex offense or kidnapping.
