      Actually I have seen it used on a patient in a hospital she was freaking out, screaming and throwing things as soon as they injected her it was lights out.
      Have you ever been put to sleep through iv? It works instantly because the fastest way for a drug to work is by injecting it. When you take something orally it needs to be digested but straight in your veins it starts working almost immediately
      Also if it took 10 minutes that would be way to long for the person to still cause problems.

      The duration of onset is always much faster with IV (or even IM) administration, but it also depends on lipophilicity and ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. Lots of factors come into play, even if the onset is rapid, maximal effect can still take some time to set in. Pharmcokinetics is cool.

    That is scary and for it to happen to a child is even worst, I was at the store a couple years ago minding my own business when a guy comes up to me from behind and grabbed me by the waist next thing I know he was dragging me towards the exit he was calling me by another name. At first people just looked at us with weird looks I guess they thought we were a couple or something but they soon saw something was wrong when I was screaming for help 3 guys were able to get me away from him the guy screamed and said I was his girlfriend and that people were trying to take his gf away from him, I was so shocked from the whole situation I was shaking and grabbing onto one of the guys who helped me out.

    The episode is called coerced I think. it's season 5 episode 6.
    Spoilers;
    So what you find out later is that the mental hospital he used to be in, was run by a corrupt owner who controlled the patients medication, allowed them to walk around naked and did something to a patient one night that killed her. He heard what happened and they threatened him if he said anything. So in order to wash their hands of him, they stopped giving him his medication, he eventually slipped into his paranoia and they let him loose. That's the reason why he goes on the spree that he does and kidnaps the boy. The SVU detectives find this information out and they go to the mental hospital to find out that not only are they still 'giving' him his medication, but that he's been on the books ever since they kicked him out. You find out that they charge the owner of the hospital with criminally negligent homicide and that he had been frauding people for years. Elliot find out that they have thrown away all of his things but he did get in contact with his ex-wife and through that his son. So at the end, Elliot gives him a camera and he says you can use that to take pictures of new memories of your son. Tate comes to the door with his mom, and says hey Dad. And the episode ends.

    As someone who lived with mental illness from ages 14 to 22 and studied it, I can tell you that not all people who are mentally struggling, as I say in my books, are violent or evil. People are struggle mentally should have empathy from people, especially doctors, mental health professionals and loved ones, not judged. It isn't their fault. No one asks to be mentally ill. I used to take it out physically on people I loved and had violent and even murderous thoughts several times every day. Fortunately, no one got seriously or severely hurt and I always told them I was sorry after cooling down AND MEANT IT. I still feel angry with myself, even though I haven't done anything like this for seven or eight years. I almost never get these thoughts anymore and haven't laid a hand on anyone in years. I was lucky to have a loving and supportive family who wouldn't give up on me, even if I wanted them to, no matter what, and a good psychiatrist. Not everyone is that lucky.... mental health professionals and doctors in mental institutions should have empathy for people with mental illnesses and try to help them instead when they can instead of keeping them locked up with no hope of ever leaving or worse, trying to make them worse so that they become hopeless to help. Lock up people who actually LIKE causing harm to others and aren't the least bit sorry about it, not people who are struggling, empathy and support and need help and can get it. Because people who are mentally ill are not only struggling and being judged but are also suffering and getting killed for it. I am doing much better now for the past few years. As a survivor of mental health and suicide attempts as well as self-harm, I take mental health VERY SERIOUSLY and hating on people just because they are suffering mentally is something that I HIGHLY DISAPPROVE!!!! People who judge others who are struggling and suffering are either ignorant or have little to no empathy for people who need help. And to add things up, I'm also autistic. There was a school shooter who was thought to be autistic but turns out he wasn't and because of that, some people think autistic people will become mass murderers and/or serial killers. Some might do that, but most aren't like that. They also say autistic people have no empathy. Again, this might be true for some but most of the time, it's not and at worst, we have trouble understanding empathy. It's not easy living with mental illness or with autism when people think they are automatically evil or murderous just because they are struggling.sm, so before you judge someone with one or both of these, try to walk a mile in their shoes and think how they must be feeling being labeled as evil or genocidal just because they struggle more than they struggle more than most people do.

    I wonder how different the story would be if they responded the the father yelling "you'll never find my son" with "then he'll die because of you".

      Most people with schizophrenia don’t get violent at all. They’re more likely to be the victims of violence.

    • @sensiblesentimental

      Few are violent, it all depends on the person. It's really unfortunate how often schizophrenia and other disabilities are used for scare factor.
