Mike is a gem to have on the Dice Tower
I love having Mike back. He was awesome here.. great review by everyone.
He is back temporarily?
Wendy is my favorite reviewer, hands down. Our tastes are nowhere near alike but she is my gauge for whether a game has longevity or fun for the moment. She notices details that many overlook and has a unique perspective that is very different from my own. Her insights are worth their weight in gold. Please do as many reviews as you can.
So happy to see Mike! We miss you all the time 😢
what happened?
Does this mean sleeping gods distant skies review is coming soon? 🤗🤗🤗
Ryan Laukat is a never sleeping god.
Yes - so nice to see Mike’s face with the other faces.
Really appreciate the review. To speak to what Mike said I had been curious about Sleeping Gods and considered getting it but indeed it was too large in scale for me to have confidence I had the tablespace, mental energy, and time to finish a campaign of it by myself.
I had no idea this game existed but now that I do it looks perfect for what I’m looking for and I may even be able to convince my wife to play it with me as well! And like y’all said, getting Jaws of the Lion vibes here and Jaws was a lot more suitable to me than the physical versions of Gloomhaven/Frosthaven for similar reasons this one feels better for me than Sleeping Gods.
I wanted to love sleeping gods, but darn the combat is so brutal. Even on "easy" we always spend all ressources to barely survive an average encounter.
So, Jaws of the Sleeping Gods?
Great review. Excited to play through this one with my kids.
"It's a playable product." Put that on the box.
I have sleeping gods and the tides of time expansion (they were a gift) and I haven’t even opened them because I am so intimidated to play alone. This one looks so much more approachable.
I see the Dice Tower is expanding to include Major Internet Celebrities
The first sleeping gods was also very easy to play solo (to me). Just took up a lot of space and time, but it’s one of the best games I have ever played regardless of player count. The characters aren’t really independently managed, so it’s not any harder to play them all… in fact I think it’s easier to play them all than split them up.
I wonder if the 2 hr mark is what Ryan recommends you play in 1 sitting.
Man, why does Wendy hate Sleeping Gods?!
😂😂😂
Cuz I'm the worst 😢😂
I think this would be fun to play it with my kids..each of us taking one character.
I wonder if the more direct paths that the river gives helps to weave a more cohesive story than the original? Our one and only playthrough (of original) was a bit all over the place with the story and then got suddenly wrapped up when we hit the end... Was a little odd, but I'm still keen to try find another time to play through the game in the space of a week
We did find key words and then activate them a few pages apart, so there was some continuity of story
I will never not call this 'Perilous Peril'
Does anyone know when the game will be released to retail?
I loved the idea of sleeping gods but definitely didn't enjoy the actual game. Way too much set up and the combat was very convoluted. I also am realizing after playing sleeping gods and recently 7th continent, I want a little more direction with my exploration games. This looks to fix all my issues. I'm very excited 😊
It’s probably 2 hours per 2 characters (not including the captain)
Wendy getting Zee's bad habit. Short is good long is bad!!
I'm happy to play a 3-4 hr game, but 8 is a bit mucb
@@DTWendy8 hours for this one? No way. My husband and I played this for about 2.5 hours and we already have 15 moonflowers. I think we’ll be done in another hour, maybe 2 tops.
Love Near and Far but found Sleeping Gods boring and frustrating. Always ready to play in Ryan Laukat's worlds but am wary about whether I will love this or not.
When did mike come back?
Visiting only!
Playing time you see on boxes is the time of one session, not the whole campaign.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
This is not the stand-alone sequel to Sleeping Gods because that one is called Distant Skies. This is a remake of the smaller predecessor to the original Sleeping Gods. I feel like they didn't make that clear at all.
Why would the playtime on the box represent the full campaign? It's the time for a session of it
It's a tough thing to define what a "session" is in Sleeping Gods games. The campaign is a whole story through, and there's no defined end-points for what a session is. So, it saying 2 hours on the box is kind of a made up number. You could play this one in 4 one-hour "sessions" or just go through it in one evening.
@DTChrisYi I agree that it's mostly made up in that you can stop whenever you want, but Red Raven definitely needs to give some indication as to what a normal session might be expected. But I don't know of any campaign game that has the amount of time it takes to finish a campaign in the same area that most games have their average session time.
I also suspect this is a made up number for how long you might play a session. But if it’s like the original SG there’s really no natural breaking points for that the way there is in a more scenario based game like Jaws of the Lion. So you just have to go with what’s a reasonable amount of time to get some things done and justify the setup.
