    I have an EV6 first edition and I love it. It took me just under 30 minutes to charge it from 10% to 100% on a 350 kW charger

      Don't use that too much, unless you're leasing the vehicle I guess, because supercharging will degrade your battery life signicantly.

      @@Investor9872 oh I’m definitely not! I have been charging to 100% just for a vacation we are on. Otherwise it’s only 80% charge ups at home

      @@geraltofrivian516 That's pretty good for a 100% charge. In general though I'd say a lot of the time the last 20% of the charging cycle is almost not worth it, on some vehicles the last 30% will take as long as the first 70%. Shorter but slightly more frequent charging stops tend to be the most time-efficient, it's best to line up charging with bathroom breaks if it's possible.

      @@0hypnotoad0 Depending on your path it's not an option. For example on my drive to Vegas from Phoenix there was only one fast charging station on the way there and back.

      @@catzblu999 Yeah that's the one instance where charging to 100% is needed, but my point remains that if you're on a path with a good number of chargers, it's always a lot quicker to charge in the 10-80% range

    I own this car and just love it. The rear wiper doesn’t seem to be an issue for me as the spoiler above the window blows the window clear. Just road tripped 197 miles to Orlando from Boca Florida and got 3.9-4.1! I never really enjoyed driving until now. This car is a delight and man does it have giddy up!

      How about the height, the headroom is horrible for a 6' guy such as myself. I did a test drive, The car drove great, and I loved the tech. I really don't want to buy a Tesla but I can't seem to find the 'close to perfect' EV.

    Really nice to see you guys crack 250 miles in this test. This is what I originally expected from the e-GMP cars, and I was disappointed with the Ioniq 5 tests. Sounds like you guys figured out Eco mode and were able to eke out the extra miles.

      I have already seen these differences in tests in Europe (I'm from EU myself) the EV6 is just more efficient predominantly due to its aerodynamic shape.

      The range/efficiency of this and the ioniq 5 are definitely a little disappointing, but definitely loving that the charging is so much faster than what the mustangs and model Y's are doing.

      The EV6 has a different battery to the ioniq5 . That will change later this year when the Ionia gets the same battery as the EV6.

    I’m really liking my e-GMP vehicle (Ioniq 5 RWD), and your review experience is consistent with mine. I live in a warm climate and am seeing > 3.7 m/kWH at hwy speeds. Seeing your range tests makes me eager to take road trips once Spring takes hold.

    Own one have and have not found a situation where I needed a rear wiper. The spoiler does a good job blowing the rain and what not off the window

    For vehicle type shapes a quartering headwind at 45 degrees more or less is the worst on drag.

    Being the first owner in Alabama to have purchased a KIA EV6 on February 12 (couldn't get the vehicle until after the Superbowl debut Feb 13), I have logged over 3100 miles in almost 4 months. The KIA dealership gave me a ChargePoint Home Flex 50A ($700 value), a 240-volt Level 2 home charger that delivers up to 50 amps of power (approximately 9.4 to 11.4 kWh). I researched this vehicle for many months and in October 2021, the dealership called me and offered me the EV only saying, 'What color do you want?" In Alabama, the only answer is Crimson, and their response was "Runaway Red". I come from a different perspective on this topic. I don't use the term car as I see these vehicles as computers on wheels. With that in mind or to my point, I come from a strong software view and was shocked and pleased to hear Hyundai/KIA purchased Boston Dynamics for future manufacturing, AI and software development for their vehicles. As many of my friends who own EV in Huntsville, AL (ID.4, Tesla, etc.) all of them have had recalls that have cost them weeks and weeks of downtime (batteries burning up, dashboards going blank, et.) mostly caused from software issues. I just went thru an uneventful recall myself that cost me an hour of my time. more to come...

    I’m loving mine so far. I have the same spec as in the video. Round trip to the mountains and back got me 3.6 kWh avg with me and my wife and two dogs plus luggage. Elevation change was around 1500 feet. Speed limit was only 65 and not 70 with some areas 55. If that helps anyone.

      For the Wind, can you confirm it has the auto lane change? I always thought it only came with the highway driver assist II on the GT Line

      @@johnkhalil9831 it does not have lane change. It is just HDA and GT has HDA2. It has enough for me. I personally like how it keeps a certain distance from you and the car in front of you more so than lane change.

    I'd love to see you try the Niro EV - I bet it could do a little bit more... Probably 3.7-4 mi/kwh vs 3.5 with the EV6.

    Great review, love this. Coming back to your question of Ioniq 5 vs. EV6 and saying it comes down to shape. Does either of them offer more headroom? I sat in an EV6 and at 6'2" and tall torso, I just don't comfortably fit. Is the Ioniq 5 any different?

      Ioniq 5 is supposed to have significantly more headroom. The EV6 will have a little more too if you skip the GT-Line sunroof.

    So really like your reviews and this one was no exception till the end. Why did you edit out after you switched to the charger that gave you max charge on the ionic 5? No rate of charge disclosed, no time of charge from zero to whatever you charged it too?

    did you guys not test a RWD 77kwh EV6?
    I would like to know if the 95ish or so hp sacrifice is worth the extra range, or if its just worth going for a full GT? (I'm looking at a RWD GT-Line EV6, but am holding off to whether go for AWD because living in Utah (though I've driven several RWD ICE cars like Nisssan 370z and Subaru BRZ).

      Just got my EV6 Light on 5/1/2022, and right now I have a little bit over 1000 miles on it. When I charge the car to 100% it only showed estimate rate of 205 miles,. It seemed like the battery is already degrade 12%. Do you know if it will be able to recapture more mileage when I have more miles on the vehicle, or it will only get lower mileage going forward?

      The range constantly changes based on how you drive. I have 3000 miles on my awe wind and its rarely the same when I fully charge. If I drive in sport mode a lot it will show less range vs eco mode

      I know what you're saying, the big companies are behind Tesla in sales. But as far as I can tell, every electric vehicle built in 2022 is outstanding. In 2022, all the legacy companies have raised their standards dramatically. The new Ford Mustang Mach-E was just reviewed by Throttle House and they said it's basically their favorite all around electric car, it handles almost flawlessly and has good fit and finish, and looks nice, they said the steering and suspension was basically perfectly tuned. And then the new Ford F150 EV truck, is maybe the best EV being made today, for the price. It's cheaper than most of the cars, and has outstanding revolutionary features. Chevy has the Hummer EV which is absolutely loved in the reviews, but Chevy and Dodge might be falling behind in the car category, and I don't think Dodge has a good electric car yet, but I could be wrong. But Ford has knocked it out of the park so far, with their Mustang and F150 Lightning.

      @@Ritalie I would argue that the Mazda MX30 and Honda E is a joke. And the Toyota BZ4X and Subaru Solterra are 10 years behind. The lightning seems good - a lot better than the Mach E apparently.

    Great report. Seems everything with the Kia has done well. Only question does Kia provide a list of charging stations that could be used on a 600 miles trip? What is charging time back up to a 80-90% charge

      In good conditions, from 20-80/90% it takes 20 min. At a 350kw charging station.

    Great video and test. I have been looking for this. So 250 miles around 400 kilometers. The only issue is that the terrain is quite flat. My normal long range trips are between highways that have steep hills. Which will you recommend for efficiency, the EV6 or Ionic 5?

    Thank you for doing 70mph test. Out here in California it is common to drive 75mph on the freeway, these give a better judge of range than the EPA rating.

    Are you sure this is the wind version? My wind awd only comes with standard hda and doesn't have the ability to lane change

    Love your videos and learn a great deal. A common theme I notice with Out of Spec Reviews and other is the non-Tesla charging network is severely degraded compared to Tesla. This is a concern for me when purchasing a non-Tesla. This is a warranted concern? Thanks!

    The hyundai test was at night and looked like a lot colder day also the other range test in the KiA EV6 was almost the exact same distance ? in the 220s miles why was this one so much different?

    Great test! I'm curious is there is a published EV motor derating due to elevation and if that has any affect on range.

      Elevation deratings on ICE vehicles have to do with air density changes, the electric motors aren't impacted by air density, the only thing impacting the electric motor is the amount of electricity provided. Temperature impacts the battery's ability to supply the required watts to the motors but that is about it.

      You have to signal to make it do a lane change, it does not change lanes just b/c there is someone slow in your lane.

    Pretty good! My Niro EV is a bit more efficient (about 3.7 miles/kWh at 70 mph and 80 F outside), but the EV6 is a bit bigger so again, that's definitely pretty good.

    The tires were also 101H.
    101 load rating = each tire rated to hold a maximum of 1,819 lbs so that's 7,276 lbs total - more than enough for the weight of a fully loaded EV6).
    H speed rating = maximum sustained speed of 130 mph. Think of 'H' as being for 'high performance'.

    A good test may be to choose an EV (doesn’t matter which) but perform the same 70mph range test at different temperatures (0* 30* 60* 90*) outside and see what the range difference is between each temperature

    Nice car, but for £47,000 / $58,000, I can see it dating very quickly, especially after a test drive of one, the interior does not match that of a KIA ProCeed GT or Stinger GT. Considering Kia is also working on additional cars to be released over 2022-25, being the EV1-EV9, already confirmed are the EV4 (Kia Soul Remake), EV7 (Ceed Remake), EV8 (Stinger) and EV9 (New SUV). There is allot to come in the next couple of years! Which is also worth waiting for! 😁👍

    The Kia EV6 is so expensive it's $75,000 here in Canada but the AWD long range Ioniq 5 is about $57,000, both of those before 15% tax.

    Kyle, I am not sure why you were so impressed with 254mi range in perfect 70F weather, using a single motor only. Isn't it EPA rated at 270mi? What would it do in the winter with AWD then? Below 200mi? Even my '20 Bolt did better.

    Funny that I have had vehicles with a rear wiper for 15 years and have never used it. It just sits there. I do put rainx on my windows in the winter though.

      I got lucky and found one with the package I wanted and absolutely love it so far. With a mixture of highway and city to work I am getting 3.6 kWh avg. it’s been a little cold here too. It’s about 50/50 hwy to city.

    I still think I will stick with my Kia Niro hybrid. Batteries only has some way to go before I see them go over 400 miles to a charge. Good test though and you cut it very close? Bravo.

    General question : whatever the range of an EV how many miles can you put on the clock before its a throw away , meaning putting new batteries is not worth the value of the car ?
    Im gonna say if you buy a good ice car meaning a model and brand known to last and you know how to drive meaning how not to abuse a car as far as operating temps and bad habits that kill life of main components like waiting for car to fully stop in reverse before slapping into drive and things I see people do in cars . I have never had any new car have anything fail in 100k pr even well into 100s except for a clutch on a car thay was stolen by somebody who didnt know or care how to use a clutch on a car over 100k , but yeah never had to replace even a clutch in a car including ones with V8S driven hard ( i think thats from not really using it much actually ) nor had a manual trans fail or an auto trans for that matter although I try to avoid owning them . But i feel like 200K is doable and you somewhat regularly see cars with 300k including people listing them for sale for 1000s of $ saying plenty of life left of which i would not risk , if you have a car with 300k with plenty of life left you should drive it and not expect somebody else to believe you unless they are a mechanic and take it 1/2 apart to see if that is so .
    But on average what is the ACTUAL LIFE of an avg EV . I realize like a phone or laptop and other products it will work but not hold charge as well so that means different things but even to say you keep an EV knowing it only has 50-60 % of range and have it along with another car and use it for shorter trips etc .
    What is the maximum life on avg if your willing to deal with loss of range as i figured but still use it to go shopping and shorter trips ( have another vehicle you would preserve life on by using ratty car same as ice cars , like use it to drive in NYC not. Eing afraid to rub paint with cabbies and pushy people and park on street etc) .
    It seems some people do for whatever reason end up with cars that need new or not new but " re conditioned " or used with less mileage new battery packs and there are scenarios where you have a nice vehicle but not worth anything because of battery / batteries crapping out so zero equity in car .
    It feels like EV owners dont at all think past 70k maybe 100k and replace their vehicles faster or similar to a german car owner for instance . I am more of a 10 year owner or longer even i have one care that is a 19 with 10K on odometer so god knows if the car doesnt outlive me at 57 years old at this pace .
    Evs being cheaper to run i might want to run more miles in fact .
    Yeah general question i know its broad and perhaps that could be for average tesla owner . Im gonna say normal driving 12-15 miles a year in NY with seasons . Is 200k a reasonable life span and is there any equity left at 200k or is it a part out if treated well enough ?

    I see that this Wind has the tech package since it has the blind spot cameras, but how does it have HDA2 and automatic lane change? I thought that was exclusive to the GT-Line?

      Must be a software mistake, as long as u have the side cameras then that's probably all the hardware u need for hda2

    Great video. Overall, my only (constructive) criticism is that we need to stop being apologetic for driving conditions. Wind exists, cold/hot weather exist, low ramps exist, people inside a car exist, so tests like yours ARE real, if I wanted 'perfect conditions' (which rarely exist) I would just be OK with theoretical. The best solution is to put a 'range' on the range estimate.

      I believe the point is consistency between tests. It would be ''unfair'' to have car A tested under heavy headwinds versus car B in good conditions.

    Question: If your on a long trip for a week or two and you charge from 0 to 100% every time you run out of charge, How long do you have to wait for it to get back to 100% again?

      FF to the end of the video and you can see the car predicting 58 minutes to go to 100%. But if you're on a road trip it makes more sense to limit charging to 80% and charge more frequently, as the last 20% takes as long as the first 80 on a fast charger.

    Can you clarify the 1 pedal driving while in eco mode? Does 1 pedal driving re-connect the front motor even in eco mode? Or does 1 pedal driving not work in eco-mode

      1 pedal driving does work in eco-mode it just keeps the front motor coupled for max regen. I believe it does eventually uncouple, but I could be mistaken. I don't care for full 1 pedal mode so I just keep mine in level 3 or 2. I personally also take mine down to 1 or off at highway speeds because it feels like it frees up the car, meaning it feels easer to maintain speed. Likely just the way it feels due to the accelerator petal mapping, but to me why do I want regen at highway speeds anyway?

      @@trpblr thanks for the input! I saw later in the video that it looks like you can see if the front motor is connected on the screen which is good enough for me. I get what you are saying about highway driving and probably agree. The only EV I have ever driven was a model S so it's not all that convenient to switch regen levels. I imagine being able to coast a bit more on the highway at level 1 would be quite nice.

      Yes you can have level 3 regen (1 pedal driving) in Eco mode, but I've noticed that it doesn't slow the vehicle down as much as when you are in one of the other driver modes. So it's "sort of" one pedal mode, but not quite.

The tipping point is coming, I'd say the consumer preference tipping point is probably 2025-2026, where the slim majority of car shoppers will be looking for an electric, and it'll be putting strain on the battery supply chain. Best time to buy will be 2023/2024 where we'll hopefully be out of the crippling automotive shortages, but before the big tipping point.

      @@everyelectriccars I wonder about that. The market might collapse in the next 5 years (see 2008) and that would calm things down. The great reset is set for 2030 so by then we'll all have our pods, bugs so there is also that.

    Just wanted to say that I got 273 miles of charge (100% in Eco) yesterday (3/30/2022) on my Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited in San Antonio Texas. The outside temperature was high 70's at 8pm. I was pleasantly surprised.

      @@maicol67 that day it was $11 and cost me $2 for going beyond 30 minutes on Electrify America charger. (32¢ /min)

      @@maicol67 assuming the national average is 14¢ on average then yes it would be. But that depends on your rate here in Lakehills Tx it's 9¢ and I don't remember what the off peak rate is (11 pm to 10 am here). Also Hyundai gives you 2 years free 30 minute charging from purchase of a new I-5. And the manual says to DC fast charge at least once a month.

      That is part of the HDA2 system, one is a steering wheel and the other is left and right turn signals telling you auto lane change is available.

    As of today and where electric vehicle abilities to operate at there best is in town or on trips that is less then 265 miles of driving.we went from south Florida to Charleston S.C. In a gas vehicle it’s a 7 hours and half with 1 fuel stop in electric vehicle was just about 10 hours and 45 min have to stop and recharge took a long time

    The US can now get the fancier headlamps offered in other markets and this car should have a standard sunroof for the price of that Wind. The IONIQ 5 is nice but the seats are uncomfortable.
