How a Rimowa Aluminium Topas case is made.
Hold your head up high as you glide proudly through the airport throngs with the Rimowa Aluminum topaz. A patented wheel design gives your gear a smooth ride. The outstanding aluminum design puts you in a group of elite travelers that will make heads turn and the crowds part. Space age materials and state-of-the-art production equipment put Rimowa at the top of the list for jet setters around the world.
The characteristic grooves in the outer shell of a RIMOWA design make it unmistakable at first sight. Even without a visible logo - when used as a prop in many international film productions, for example - you will instantly recognise the ‘luggage with the grooves’.
RIMOWA revolutionised the world of travel in 1937 when it developed the first-ever lightweight metal suitcase using aircraft aluminium. Since then, the grooved appearance has become the trademark feature of our the long-established company. It is no surprise that the elegant design and especially light material of our products have always been admired by cosmopolitan people who appreciate good style.
RIMOWA has plants around the world. The Rimowa Aluminum Topaz featuring in this video is made in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. - Věda a technologie
God forbid if I’m ever in a plane crash im definitely getting in my rimowa suitcase
Like Indiana Jones getting inside an old lead lined refrigerator during a 1950s A-bomb test, and survives.
I had mine for 9 years. I had to change the wheels twice and it's covered in scratches, but it held up well. I sold it last year and almost got the same I paid for it. People have gone crazy for them!
Did you pay yourself for the wheels?
I love my Rimowa (Ri-Mo-Va) case and it gives me total peace of mind travelling with expensive camera gear. I use it on airlines and road trips so it gets a lot of use.
my costco samsonite had probably 4-5 flights a year, for 6 years now. very happy with it lol
i heard airport staffs has such an honor to add dent collection for your first Rimowa flight.
Im getting my Cabin Size IATA and a 85L suitcase in London on Next Wednesday... I used to use everything that TUMI has to offer....
"...how these grooves are made is a highly coveted sectet..." LOL
True , the process is die pressing.
I think what they meant was it’s patented to Rimowa.
I complain that the new handle which make my hands pain when I grab it for just few minutes because rimowa change the handle shape with a shape edge at one side. I don’t understand why they change the grip shape while the old handle grip so nice to hold.
I wish they'd do a video of the German factory where the Classic line is made...
I just bought a Rimowa Topas, and I love it!
lol, you must be braindead! or just a fuckign hipster loser!
@@bent540 that’s pretty harsh
Respect craftsmanship
I love their briefcases!
If you want higher durability and quality with the same weight, Pelican Air is the choice for 1/4 the price. It also has a lifetime warranty, can be repaired yourself really easily, has a nice aftermarket for customization, and things like wheels, latches, and handles are dirt cheap and readily available online. The Rimowa looks awesome though.
I have this brand loyalty with tumi and samsonite but rimowa looks really nice
I have eleven Topaz suit cases of which seven of them we can't use . Wheels broken off or they catch the wheel holders Frames bent , Combination locks broken , Corner piece rivets broken , Blue plastic inserts coming off . I love my Rimowa's and because of there price don't want to replace them because no one can repair them where we live . So I am being forced to purchase Tumi but they just don't make the statement Rimowa's make . Just viewed the video on how Rimowa's are made . Really sounds good but they should NEVER should say they are indestructible , far from it . Easy to test when they are not full of luggage . Once dropped from the plane or baggage cart cart and they land on the corner you are guaranteed to have damage . I think the baggage handlers world wide do their best to damage them .
But Timberland luggage it is very durable.
If you bought Briggs and Riley they have a lifetime warranty fix would always be free!
So the question is Rimowa or Tumi? I dig the leather handles of Rimowa's luggage.
Why is American tv always paired with cheesy background music and commentator?
Because American TV (hopefully only American TV) Is complete trash.
Extremely bad pronunciation of Rimowa and Porsche - very american
mbox314 at least we have a variety of channels and content to view. Unlike in China, where you have two channels and the dark net you can go to jail for accessing. Enjoy your authoritarian entertainment.
@@jen_nice2059 lol enjoy your American dream.
@@jen_nice2059 your comment lacks so much knowledge and accuracy it's amazing
I have mine from 2015 used every month flying to Africa. It is full of dents, but still works in perfect.
A bit off topic, but Toppas is the most delicious cereal ever produced.
They do look great and personally I think they still look pretty good when dented and scratched through travels. However, it is certainly not as durable as some $200-400 products from its competitors or the Salsa/Limbo from its own.
The wheels feel amazing when new and become crappy after about 2-3 years. The good thing is they are warrantied for 5 years and you can still order from Rimowa out of warranty.
I have a carry-on topas which I will never check in and to be honest, I prefer my Samsonite Inova. There are some Chinese companies making aluminum luggage range from $80 to $400. I might give them a shot.
My factory can make it out of 12mm aluminum cheques sheet for 1/3 the cost, however it might break the soft airport conveyor systems
สุดยอด สวยมาก
I truly love fashion and technology!
I'm surprised they only make 200 a day.
it takes approx 30 minutes to make a case and only 8 hours a working day
Some factories work in shifts but yeah.
Because no one buys a $1,000 luggage when China makes cheap ones that last as long.
@@dcentral why would china make cheap ones that last as long
Supreme
I love the brand. Guys, check out my newest Unboxing Video of a Rimowa suitcase: czcams.com/video/FwBeu1yN-cc/video.html
Rimowa and Zero Halliburton are my go-to brands when it comes to luggage and briefcases.
I go for Victorinox
I love Rimowa. I have the polycarbonate one tho.
which one is for Suits that hang???
Definitely impressive and apparently not everyone can afford one.
Could I hide inside a Rimowa suitcase in the event of a plane crash? 😭🤣
I worry about people being attracted to one and you lose your case and your stuff ....whereas if you had a beaten up old boring case thieves would avoid it as they would believe that there is nothing valuable inside...thieves can recognise a quality case....anyways I want one.
Depends on where you travel. I've had a Tumi/Ducati bag that stands out for years. It's locked with a TSA lock and no one has ever tampered with nor stolen it. I am anxious however to be one of the first at the baggage claim :).
l' bought one of those just because of the Junkers F-13 they rebuilt😉.
not for economy class passengers..
why not?
@@wady0 Well it's an unnecessary luxury product, is it a cool, quality product, yes, but not worth it for the average joe that goes on vacation ones every 5 years.
my first suitcase was a rimowa topas
There is no secret to how the ribs are made. Hugo Junkers was the first to made ribbed sheet metal for aircraft in 1918. Romowa invented nothing here just, its all been done before.
why would anyone buy an alu case made out of what looks like 26 gauge lol alu at that gauge cracks very very easily. sucker born every day.
@@snoopyshultz ...I have travelled globally for the last 12 years (lots of S. America and Africa) with one set of Rimowa cases. The pieces are still in use today without a single visit to the repair workshop. What's your story?
@@illitrait Really? This is outstanding. I am trying hard to figure out what checked in luggage to buy. Given that 1.200k is a lot of money for anything. I guess you suggest Rimowa.
...yes, @@DLGemma, I am definitely a huge fan of the 2-wheelers.
@@illitrait anything used with care will last. If you baby your carry-on, like I do, even my $40 supermarket no frills carry-on has lasted me atleast 50-60 trips so far. The telescopic handle is giving me some issues though. For me the deal breaker is the weight. The looks are obviously fantastic. The value proposition is really bad though even factoring in the argument that it is a “luxury” product.
can I take the classic cabin size on board with all airlines??
A year late in response but yes you can . Do it all the time
Tumi 19 degree is a more solid and well built case if you're after aluminum. For durability and warranty, no one tops B&R. For all out durability and protecting expensive equipment, Pelican is the way to go for FAR less money.
TOP SECRET!
I got the new dior x rimowa luggage today at the Miami pop up 😛😴
This video, makes the case look so badly made.
How does it compare to Zero Halliburton?
...not sure if Rimowa ever tune in, but these ridiculous four-wheelers are much more prone to damage and actually deliver less by way of overall benefit. Please bring back the two-wheeler options. Sensible. Sturdy. Strong.
It's a metal BOX guys...
And metal is a poor choice for taking any damages... Unless you like to see a dented case all over the place like a can of empty coke.
Is that a Leica logo on the plane? 1:25
I am looking to buy one to build a pc in!
Any update :)
I don't know it until Jackson Yee took photos with it
Mandrel rolling is how it is corrugated. I use Rimowa and it's great, but secret process?
Classic or Original, which has the better lock?
Original has the better locks because they are recessed, so they're much less likely to be sheared off by accident. Whereas the Classic's latch sticks out a bit making it more vulnerable to damage.
Absolutely it doesn't matter if the Suitcase survived after Plane crashed . 🤣🤣 no one will need my Socks
4:20 so all the luggage will be tested on like that.
does this dent easily?
xpopxeyex YES! Unfortunately.
Yes , but it looks better with a dent
Yes looks better dented LOL Briggs and Riley would fix for free for lifetime of bag
The plastic wheel housing broke on mine. I hope Rimova can fix it under warranty.
Lmao the supreme collab got me here
They are not as strong as it looks I had to go for service twice already for my Topas luggage. Before I used Rimowa I use Samsonite and never had problem with it.
No suitcase is indestructible and if they won’t live up to the warranty what good are they? First use they get scratched and dented. Briggs and Riley on the other hand will fix any damage for the lifetime of the bag What are you going to choose something at scratched and dented with first use or something that has a lifetime warranty like Briggs and Riley
I saw this cuz of the supreme case lmao
$1,000 luggage will not last as long as a Pelican case will.
so RIMOVA is made in Canada
Supreme brings me here!
书记辛苦了
啦啦啦啦啦啦啦啦啦啦
The inside of aluminum samsonite is better: same sheets but not velcro and more zip bags
Classic flight is always the BEST Rimowa ever, much much more sexier than this Topas anyway.
Topas only better point is their locking system though.
if that case survive in a plane crashed, i think the we can use that materials in a plane body also
Just got my new aluminum carry-on from MVST Select for $295. Rimowa is just too expensive for me.
chunlin tang could you help me please where i can buy MVST luggage? I didnt find any thing in the internet, does they have a shop? Or online ?
Can you even pronounce mvst
usually a suitcase did not last for more than 5 years and then it collect dust and then I toss it out
I have there large luggage bag, it seemed like good quality back in 2011 when I bought it but after 3 weeks in last trip it has come home with a underbite problem with closing that’s being repaired now. If they can’t fix it right I’m not buying another Rimowa as way to expensive and not worth it. Soon as word travels around that their luggage ain’t so good anymore, bye bye sales.
As a frequent flier I am tempted to purchase one of these. I end up buying a Delsey suitcase every 6-9 months anyway. Why not buy something awesome and keep it ten years? The problem though is that no matter how well it is made, baggage ends up with scratches, big black marks, you name it. It looks like crap in a very short period of time. I've even had the TSA break the special TSA locks by accident. So even if I were convinced that one of these cool suitcases could last a long time, it would surely look like junk after 100 flights? And $1,000+ seems like a lot of money to invest on that little experiment.
ZCT808 they do get pretty banged up, but still look cool. Do a google search of used rimowa suitcases. I’ve read mixed reviews about their durability, but I think getting scratches and dings in the aluminum is part of the charm of these suitcases, as long as they maintain structural integrity.
They get banged up in one trip. I disagree they'll last a lifetime. Ditched mine when they looked like I came back from Iraq.
Buy the plastic type version and if you want to keep it in good shape wrap it with plastic cover at the airport. If you don't mind the bad look it's all good, TSA is really bad they scratched mine with a sharp object but it hasn't broke down yet.
This is why we place stickers on our luggage.
For this price this has to be Titan or something
"Porsche of the suitcase world"... Paul Walker fam, thats all im sayin.
Haha, geez!
BAKED vyw
It's only expensive because of the labours cost, aliexpress will ask more for shipping of this suitcase than the actual cost of the suitcase 😭😭😭😭
The labour is not that much. These people are making maximum $25/hour and if it takes two hours to make a suitcase that’s $50. Engineering design and everything else cost a lot more
@@mervinprone nice math dingu brain...
Oh my god i need to pay for aluminium tin can almost 800 dollars? lol sure
I just bought a Xiaomi aluminium trolley for 160 dollar :D Can use many for 1 Rimowa!
does it mean i can put my laptop inside?
It looks like a Citroen 2cv van....and an H van...
If this is a German company, is it pronounced Rimova?
until 10 minutes ago i never heard of it
it was really hard to pay attention to this after he said, "porsh"!
havocproltd
It's porchaaaa
Uneducated video editor. Shall I call my car now a Mase-ray-tie?
@@leohochhauser probably go for MA-ZE-RA-TY THEN HAHAHAHA
Its not "Remower" ...it's pronounced "Remover" (by the Germans anyway). It's for REMOVING your stuff , and not RE-MOWING the grass. Surely that makes sense.
I have one from late 1990's (the locks are crap - I use a locking strap) - and they are def not waterproof like the contemporary polypropylene (and really heavy) Samsonite - had a couple of those and loved em but they weigh a ton.
I have travelled round the world with the "Remoover" (several times) which is banged up but otherwise still functional - and still looks kinda cool.
Paul Gee well in English language the letter w doesn’t have a “v” sound so I tend to pronounce according to English rules. Of course in german I would want to pronounce it according to their language rules.
If this is the porsche, Samsonite is the Ferrari?
What is the point of the balancing with a rubber mallet exactly? What if this step wasn’t done, what would happen?
Pronounced Ri-Mo-Va and not ri-mow-a.
Yup, the W in German is pronounced like a V in English.
Porsch-ah
OldVillain I agree. Vick Vaporub even changed their company logo for the German speaking market into Wick to change the local pronounciation of the V like an F as in father. Fick would not have been acceptable to any parent in Austria, Germany or Switzerland. On the other hand I grew up with Col-guh-tay toothpaste, the German literal pronounciation.
Pronouce what ever you know how if you're not german 😆
please lessen the background music sometimes it's very annoying
After this video, I don't think the craftmanship justify its price. Nah.
It is expensive in my country, 3 luggage of Rimowa will cost 3000 $ , is it expensive in your country ?
Don't need pricey luggage to house clothes and toiletries. Not that these are not good quality luggage but, just not necessarily when cheaper luggage is adequate. Considering the baggage handlers toss this stuff all over the place and it gets all dented and scratched up with broken wheels and so on.
Supreme X RIMOWA any one??
Got one. Brandnew 500€. SS18
Supreme Collab?
I am confused this costs over 1000.00 dents/scratches easily warranty sucks don’t you compare bags??
Briggs and Riley lifetime warranty really made my pick easy!!!!
Mine became dented threw travel I will stick to samsunite
Its not light weight though which is a HUGE factor.
LOJEL ALL THE WAY
Big fan of LOJEL here 😍.
The wheels break easily.
149 people at this factory in Canada were laid off last year.
Personally I think they look cool but I'm going to stick with my ZH and Pelican cases.
ALAPINO nothing will beat a pelican. Indestructible. Love them tooo
supreme anyone?💯🤟🏻🙈😏
I really don’t understand why people buy these expansive pieces just for other people to toss around in the airport and leave permeant marks on it, except for conspicuous consumptions. Just have no idea.
ree - mo - va
Thankfully, the two I have were made in Germany, unlike these Canadian versions.
It’s a fucking box with wheels and a handle? Oh $1300 yeah that makes sense
Jk I just bought my first one and I love it!!!!!
This was a lousy presentation. They don't show how the ribs are made which was my #1 intrest, they don't show how thet bend the parts in the press brake, they talk about semi tubular rivets as if it were unique and then they describe the rivets as having a strength of 27,000psi which is meaningless without knowing the area of the rivet....and the music is annoying.
