Regarding that lack of inventory, that's a hold over from the original game, which was literally built using slideshow software.
The original game didn't even let you carry both pages at once!

Imagine playing new Myst and not taking pictures of literally everything and then having to run back all the time to find clues that you already saw. At least in 1993 you had an excuse, like "I couldn't find a pencil."

Hey, fun fact, this classic game's speedrun is extremely short, some versions being less than a minute long
That's because the puzzles are always the same so you can skip all the discovery stuff, plus being that the original was a point and click, with only a couple cut scenes that you actually have to wait for, theoretically it could be finished in about 35 seconds

@@memnarch129 the record is 56 seconds, but it could be finished faster, with perfect inputs in a tas run
@@nothingnothing1799 It was a bit more then just knowing how to solve the puzzles that made the speedrun so fast but that the thing you needed to do to get to the end of the game was right there in the beginning all along. By playing the game you would find out how to activate it, but if you know how to already you could go right to it and skip everything. You didn't need to solve any of those puzzles.
I'm really loving all the QoL stuff in this remaster - being able to hold both pages at once, the note to the imager being on a boulder instead of on the ground, the sticks showing you where the water is going in Channelwood, etc.
god i wish the original game had Channelwood this way
I like that you can "beat" this game in 30 seconds.... once you know, however, it loses a little something

As someone who could never beat the original games, this has been really fun for me to see. You should look into the other original games made by the devs, some of them are really interesting.

In the original game, the doors in the elevators allowed it so they only needed to animate a small portion of the overall screen to simulate going up. Going down was the same video shown in reverse.
This version of the game looks so much easier and feels super surreal to watch.
Because you're playing this, I decided to revisit the VR port. I forgot how much it makes me motion sick after an hour of playing, so that was fun.
At first that piano puzzle solution in the book didn't make sense, but after taking a few minutes to look at the piano key drawing I understand. As a former musician I should be ashamed, but then again, I never learned piano, so I never learned what keys go to which notes

In the original game, if you pick up the red page you automatically drop the blue page and vice versa, that's why the brothers have so much dialogue telling you to only take one

The notes had a number order on them so he inputed the corresponding notes into the console in order.
Anyone who learned to play the piano could do this
@@jeremymcdowelltx Anyone could look at the piano and say the names of the notes that were displayed, but not anyone could input those notes into the device by ear without at least listening to a reference pitch first. Apparently the small lines on the sliders are arranged the same as piano keys so he might have noticed that and just done it visually, but he didn't mention the lines on the sliders and it's not an easy detail to notice.
You can actually play the piano on the back of the ship in order to have a reference pitch.
@@cliffthecrafter They are at least visually lined up. So if 1 is the 15th key on the Piano its the 15th tone up on the slider.

Perfect pitch and relative pitch can look the same, but they're different skillsets.
Honestly he might just have looked like I did. Next to the sliders there are marks and they represent the keys of the piano

You can play it out on the keyboard in the ship, and then just move the sliders until the sound matches. The video has some cuts, maybe he didn't show the part where he played it?
10:19 honestly, the most frustrating puzzle in any game. Nothing tells you that holding down the lever keeps the centre cog rotating. And then upon finding that out it makes the puzzle trivial.
Would you consider playing the other games in the series like riven? That’s probably my favourite one
Second this! Riven is a masterpiece. Might need to take hints from chat from time to time, but it’s worth it.
I sure hope so, Riven is my favorite game in the series by far
Im hoping that IF this remaster does well enough that Cyan will Redo Riven and hopefully Exile as well.
I think Myst was better, but did get into Riven and pretty far till I hit what seemed like a dead end, I was missing an item or something that seemed impossible to get back to (or perhaps just way to tedious to do that, but I think I assumed I must be stuck. ).
My dad played the original game back when it came out, and I played the game myself a few years back. We both love the game and we got to share a really fun experience!

I can only assume the piano behind was to create the needed sound but ill never know...

The one in the forest would sure. But the door would completely break from the floor above.
Part of the reason the doors need to be shut is that this version of Myst is also playable in VR, and they needed to make sure that people couldn't walk out of the elevators while they were moving. This is also why you can look around in the opening cutscene.

Ight well i got some bad news, im going to be missing notification gang upload for a while now. I got into trouble at school and my parents took my phone. My grades are what caused it, cause i have 3 F's lol, but its not my fault. Its just that they gave me so much work to do in the week of school i missed for the world series, and im struggling to get it all in. But yeah, dont mind if i dont do it at all on a comment until its like 2 days later, cause im just doing it when i can.
