    I preferred when my skates came with blades, as places are now charging extra to get them with blades. This would have never been a problem if it wasn’t an option, if someone really cared that much they would’ve just changed the steel out anyway

    I’m an old school Ex hockey player playing in the late 70’s into the 80’s with CCM Super Tacks as being somewhat the bees Knees of Hockey Skate’s back then,I eventually saved up and owned a pair after wearing out my Daoust 301 Nationals which (I loved) but the super Tacks back then being leather Lost all their Support when they got soaked which was always the case so to See these New CCM Skates it’s a huge eye opener seeing how much Skates have Changed in design and materials as well as Technology.
    Really enjoyed this Review Chris
    And although I’m well past my playing days being in my late 50’s I still kept a few of my Skates I’ve had over the years which are:-
    CCM 1052 Custom Lites
    CCM 992 Super Tacks
    CCM 852 Super Tacks
    CCM Jetspeed FT1
    Reebok 10K Pump
    I look forward to any comments on the above Skates on whether they are worth keeping as most pairs are still in excellent condition.
    I would skate again but the Northeast lost nearly all their rinks bar 1 which is just too far away.
    Keep up the good work Chris👍

    Question: Is there a source to see skate boot stiffness ratings throughout the last few years? I'm interested to see how this has increased, differs by brand or even skate families. As always, great video and thank you for providing us a look at where CCM is going.

    Great video! I’d love to see a comparison between the FT4 Pro and the ASV Pro. I recently got the FT4 Pro in the total custom plus, and absolutely love it. However it does seem a bit soft, and curious if the ASV Pro would still have the same fit and performance as the FT4 Pro. Thanks again!

    Unless you’re playing elite hockey the blades that come with high end skates aren’t terrible. They’re generally softer and wear quicker. If you’re fussy about your blades you’re going to swap these out for what you like. At this level it’s not really an issue. Tape the bottoms and throw them in your hockey bag. If you break a blade and don’t have a spare or a teammate does the same these might fit. It happened last season and it saved a friend’s game.

    My experience with Step Blacksteel in the Speedblade XS holder was that they were very difficult to get in and out of the blade holder. The blade holder also cracked after a handful of blade exchanges, probably as a result of having to tap the blade into the holder.

    Honestly, I'm not particular about selecting runners vs. buying whatever the skates come with. I've almost always bought Bauer skates, so my experience with CCM skates is limited (still prefer the fit and feel of the Bauer skates).
    Good review and video anyway. Thank you for doing this!

    Hey Chris awesome vid! Just wanna say this vid helped me make the decision on picking up a pair of asv pros myself so thanks👍
    Question though, did you have an issue once lacing up these skates, my ankle didn't sit into the ankle pocket properly (just behind) and I am experiencing pain on the outside of my ankles. I haven't baked these yet, wondering in your experience would that help with that pain do you think?

  • @GeoffSweet
    @GeoffSweet Před 2 lety +2

    They are clunky. Really wide and long. There is a really strange feel in the forefoot. There is a strange hump under the first and second knuckles of your toes all the way across the skate. The replaceable tongue mounting points I could feel on the top of my foot. I crossed it off my list almost immediately upon putting them on. I bought the Mach as it was much more comfortable out of the box. Cheers all. Good vid as always.

    The Vs kinda have a goalie skate look with a tendon guard stuck on. Still pretty cool. I think the squared off and simple look of the 3s is classy tho. Would be cool to own some tacks but they just don’t fit right for me
    Also I’d really like to see some warrior content. I think their LX stick is amazing but I’d like to hear a more informed opinion on it. They seem like a cool brand to me

    I am in a position where I don't mind the skates not coming with blades, as I am moving towards purchasing profiled blades from Tyden/Cag/Prosharp etc. I do however see how this is an issue for some people.

      They come with blades. You have to pick which of the three options. You can't get them without steel, or at least that's not what CCM/Bauer intended.

    Here in Canada (the home of CCM), we still can't order ASV-Pro custom skates using the CCM app. They have issued a temporary order form done on an excel sheet as if we've gone back in time and it doesn't even have some of the basic options like liner choice and boot stiffness. CCM has really fallen short here and has offered no explanation.

    Great video Chris and thanks for the info about the upcoming video on comparing the retail vs. custom ASV pro skates, will definitely be looking out for that that one. I'm using the AS3 Pros and find that they're very nice skates, but found that the tendon guard makes it harder to get deep in the strides without adding lift to the front of the skate, so will be considering an upgrade.
    What's your take on the ASVs vs. the FT4 Pro skates in terms of agility?

    • @HockeyTutorialOfficial
      @HockeyTutorialOfficial  Před 2 lety +1

      Happy to help! I totally understand, happy to skate in fixed tendons but I’ll always pick a flexible one wherever possible.
      Big fan of the FT4 Pro but you can’t beat a flexible tendon. Ankle mobility is a big one for me and the ASV Pro make it more natural to skate (in my opinion). I’m probably gonna drop down a few models within the Super Tacks range as I don’t really need 215 stiffness. Aside from that, extremely happy.

    Hi! I follow you for quite a while and I wonder if you could do an "non elite" comparison? If I don't want to pay 1100$ on a pair of skate what is the most important feature to look at? For exemple I was always looking for the highest level of protection for my kids when choosing skate (both are defenseman and I saw to many ankel injury). thank you and keep talking about that wonderfull sports gear!

    Nice video. I just bought a pair of ASVpro upgrading from my 2018 top of the line supertacks. They are super comfy but first impressions I don’t like them. Going to keep trying but they just feel so heavy and slow compared to my older lighter ones. Thought it was in my head but looking At the specs on ice warehouse the ccm comes in at 145 grams heavier then the Bauer Vapor equivalent. In fact they are heavier then pretty much all other brands top end. That’s a lot of weight when the entire skates are less then a kg. Hopefully I get used to them with the money spent.

    • @noupf69
      @noupf69 Před rokem +1

      I agree, the AS-V Pros are heavier, but the weight difference between the Super Tacks AS-V Pros and the Vapor / Supreme's is more like 85 grams. The 145 grams you mention is with carbon lite runners on the bauers ( those things are junk ) so if you use the regular pulse or pulse ti runners, the advertised weight of the bauers all increase by 56 grams or so.

    I think thats the stupidest thing Ive ever heard of a skate not coming with a blade. At least its a starting point when you spend gobs of money up front. You can always upgrade later. Lets put it this way...I spend THOUSANDS of $$ on top line mountain bikes, they still come with tires!! They may come with what I would change to anyways, but if not, Im def going to ride the tires until they are done and needing replacement. Skates with no blades??!! Unless purely custom route, the marketing guy who thought of that should be fired.
