- This video is an exercise in sizing gas systems. I explain both the longest length and the branch length methods of sizing. Please watch and let me know if there any questions. This is based on the information provided from the Uniform Plumbing Code 2018 Edition.

Hello. Great class. I have a question. How did you get the 80 feet distance to solve the small extension of the main pipe that has a 1" right before the FAU and the Dryer branches?
Short answer is if you add up the distance from the meter to the dryer it equals 73. Since there is no 73' in the table, the next max available is 80'. Keep in mind this applies in the branch length method only.

Second question. Is the whole main line 2" using the branch method? If yes, did you get this by using the 125 distance and by using the total of all of the CFH from all the appliances?

Hi man, how do we know which table to use in Table 1215? How do we figure out the pressure drop for our system?
I have a situation, my new firepit requires 240k and it is 60’ away from meter.
The current pipe line is as follows-from gas meter 1” pipe size for 50’ distance and then branch out for 1/2” size for next 10’ distance to fire pit.Does this current pipe system would be good enough for 240k btu firepit?

I have my C36 exam tomorrow and I really like your videos. however, the main with the 50 ft length towards the bottom is 340 CFH. 145 +195= 340

I’m sizing a propane gas line and table 1215.2 says capacity in thousands of btu per hour not cubic feet.

How do you start with just the branch method?
The branch method is just like the longest length method, except the branches that are separate from any line having the furthest outlet on it need be sized as it's own. So, any section of pipe that is involved in feeding fuel to the furthest outlet is sized based on longest length. I hope this explains it a bit. Rewatch the video and you'll see what I mean. Any questions, feel free to ask.
by all means, have walk-though exams are the best. I have previously used the longest length method only, because I was told that the branch method, you had to be an engineer.
The branch length is more accurate, whereas the longest length increases branch sizes in just a few areas most times- which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The longest length ensures demand will be met.
How can I take your classes
I have asked the college district on several occasions if it were possible for individuals outside the county to enroll. Each time it was no, unfortunately. I am still trying to get approval.
