I have spiral curls and I used to hate them when I was younger. Now my hair is damaged and after I wash it it looks wavy at best. I’ve been trying to get my curls back to their original state
I used to straighten my hair every single day as well, as my hair is naturally curly my hair would get frizzy and puffy outside from the humidity, I would constantly straighten it to keep it flat. At one point I started trying different hairstyles that didn’t involve washing your hair often, (braids, cornrows, locs, etc) and that started getting me lazy for straightening my hair all the time, because I started getting so used to just leaving my hair the way it was. Also I’m not black I just like the hair style so our hair texture would probably be the same or similar. I started leaving my natural hair out and slowly started to like my curls, as I would get so many compliments on it and eventually realised just how pretty my hair actually is and wondered why I was straightening it so much. From then, I started looking into how to look after my curls, I got a fresh full head of highlights, brown and blonde, and my curls looks absolutely amazing with it. I started deep conditioning and using products to revive my hair and making it look even healthier. Now my hair is voluminous, (although I’ve always had thick hair) it’s bouncy, and looks healthy, despite the damage from bleach. I’ve learnt to love my curls and I’m so much happier with my hair!

I’ve been in the same position. It’s never a good idea to try to keep length while trying to get your curls back. I would recommend you chop from your shoulders as that is where I see the hair start to fray. After that absolutely no coloring or any form of heat, regardless of heat protectant. Your hair is on the more sparse side so maybe only deep condition once a week, 2 max. Everyone has different takes on hair product but sulfate free shampoos aren’t ideal for oily hair or is you use a lot of creams (amplifies build up).
I used to have straight hair and then one day it just stopped doing that. Now it just wavy but half of it is always wavier than the other. I figured out that I can curl my hair by having it a little wet and twisting it then putting it in a bun.
Hair type can definitely change as you age though! Esp with big hormonal changes like puberty, early 20s, pregnancy, and menopause so it could be that your hair got less curly too but yeah definitely agree with the other comments, just let it grow out! Or if you'd really like curls *now*, a perm is a great way to get curls while waiting for your natural hair to grow in if it's too damaged to curl on its own
Perms can be bad for your hair but it can also reactivate curls so they stay (if you had the genes) once the perm wears off, that’s what happened for my sisters
So I’m white and I straighten my hair. Not because I am whitewashing myself but because puberty ruined my beautiful already curly hair. You going to blame white people for everything?
If your white you can't white wash yourself it's POC trying to fit in with white people by damaging hair, doing certain treatments to look white, etc aka whitewashing
As a bipoc, I don't understand why Americans think straightening your hair is "whitewashing" when white people literally have natural curls too. This is why I prefer using terms like "westernizing" or "elitism" instead of "white wash". Western European Elitism (the neocolonialmism era that followed the Victorian era) is what actually promotes the idea of assimilating to very specific beauty standards. Not white people as a whole. The Irish and Scottish were also a part of this forced assimilation. Last time I checked they're white.
Ughhh the societal pressure to have straight hair is so annoying! I also straightened mine everyday for years and completely ruined the beautiful curly hair I used to have…now the best I get is frizzy waves
The hair in the middle of my head is significantly shorter than the rest from straightening my 4c hair everyday so people would except me but when I stopped they made fun of me worst part was some black girls made fun of me too 🥲 but ik they did it to fit in and probably were projecting their own insecurities so it’s cool 😌
I got my curls back with extreme hydration, NO HEAT AT ALL, like at all! Cutting my tips upwards so I can have my hair grow freely. Braiding at night sometimes to retrain. Then when it regrew- a big chop. All that work- but a big chop. So it can grow bouncier, and this time look like healthy growth.
i used to have curly hair just like the curls you did and i ruined it by straightening and bleaching it. i finally shaved my head and as its growing i dont see my original hair pattern and it makes me sad. maybe my scalp got too damaged or i just need to let it get a bit longer.
To get your curls back you gotta stop with the heat. Cold 🥶 turkey 🦃 and deep condition once a week, skip regular conditioner. Gently detangle in sections and Give your hair a year or 2. she’ll be bouncing ❤
If u wanna work on getting your curls back, I'd start by getting a deep conditioner and using it once a week over night. It's a long process but so worth it (I speak from experience)
Maybe not overnight - not great for your scalp to be wet that long - perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

I used to have straight hair and then one day it just stopped doing that. Now it just wavy but half of it is always wavier than the other. I figured out that I can curl my hair by having it a little wet and twisting it then putting it in a bun.
I SNEEZE EXACTLY LIKE HER WHAT THE HELL FINALLY WBAHAHHA
Seinfeld and friends and sitcoms from then , r such a Indian parent thing!!
If u want ur curls back, do the curly girl method hair. Worked for me.
Dude you look so pretty. You look pretty with straight hair and curly hair. Straight hair doesn’t suit me that well so yeah you pull both off niceee
Hair type can definitely change as you age though! Esp with big hormonal changes like puberty, early 20s, pregnancy, and menopause so it could be that your hair got less curly too but yeah definitely agree with the other comments, just let it grow out! Or if you'd really like curls *now*, a perm is a great way to get curls while waiting for your natural hair to grow in if it's too damaged to curl on its own
Perms can be bad for your hair but it can also reactivate curls so they stay (if you had the genes) once the perm wears off, that’s what happened for my sisters
you could use protein treatments to work towards getting it curly again or just cut it off like i did
Lol the dad at the last with his 👍🏼 is So Cute
My curls get messed up from dying my hair, maybe you had a similar thing?
The word is texturism
You're dad in the back holding his hand up to the camera at the end 😂😂
OMG....
I'M IN LOVE 😋
You look pretty in curl
Ughhh the societal pressure to have straight hair is so annoying! I also straightened mine everyday for years and completely ruined the beautiful curly hair I used to have…now the best I get is frizzy waves
Straightening hair is not "whitewashing" though. A lot of desis have straight hair..
Exactly! It’s texturism
You look like an Egyptian ✨QUEEN✨
Try flaxseed gel! That's definitively the best curls activator I ever used
Girl try the curly girl method! You can get them back!!!
Sleeping on braids and washing with curly hair products helped me
Try using K18 and the EvaNyc Deep conditioner
i used to have curly hair just like the curls you did and i ruined it by straightening and bleaching it. i finally shaved my head and as its growing i dont see my original hair pattern and it makes me sad. maybe my scalp got too damaged or i just need to let it get a bit longer.
Look into the curly girl hair routine you can get your curls back!! It takes time work and patience
I used to straighten my hair every day and now it’s permanently straight and not now I hate it and I want to shave my head
Do it, start over and see how it will turn out after some growing.
@@emihleb2698 actually I started using curly hair products and now it’s curly
Do you have photos of your really curly hair from when you were young?
To get your curls back you gotta stop with the heat. Cold 🥶 turkey 🦃 and deep condition once a week, skip regular conditioner. Gently detangle in sections and Give your hair a year or 2. she’ll be bouncing ❤
