I love the quote "look at the bright side even if you can't see the sun"
I'm completely blind since birth and I still keep my eyes open purely because I think if I wee sat in a meeting or something with my eyes shut I might well fall asleep. 🤣 It very much depends on the person I think
I think I might too 😂😂fair enough x
Hey, I don’t have to even close them to fall asleep. Lol. Shocking lol
but how do u write this-

In German there's actually a term for the colour that one sees when closing their eyes. It's "Eigengrau" (one own's grey)
Germany has so many words to exactly describe a thing so much on the nose.
@@astrisperspecto4130 I think it's because in German one can pute two words together to form a new one. For example Haus (house) + Schuh (shoe) = Hausschuh (slipper). And it's easy to understand because it's so obvious which words were combined. We Germans are a efficient bunch 😅
I didn't know that lol I'm from germany too
the more you know :)
Echt?
thats fucking great
I was blind in one eye but i dont remember it bc i was very little. Now im 12 soon 13, my left eye is really bad but i can still see!✨✨❤️❤️
God bless u
Same i can see but i am blind

You should see if you qualify for an eSight kit. It helps near blind people see near perfectly.
God bless you.

Every second of this video is amazing!
I’m an American Sign Language interpreter and I know so much about Deaf culture. Now I’m so excited to learn about Blind culture!
Thank you so much so glad you enjoyed this video😀
The fact that you lost your sight at 17 and came out the other end as .. well how you are.. amazing personality and just the best person I’ve ever come across. And you’re just so skilled and intellectual and I’d have thought you’d always been blind with how much you can do. You have educated yourself on your condition and grabbed it by the horns! The fact that someone googled “Can blind people drive?” leaves me with very little hope for humanity
Well some people are legally blind but can still see somewhat.
That question is not so dumb as it sounds.
I have heard for example that deaf people are allowed (in my country, Germany) to drive
if they add additional mirrors to compensate the disadvantage of not hearing (by seeing better).
And people who have limited sight may use glasses and still drive.
The upcoming "self driving" will make that question viable.
And at least in my country once you have your license nobody checks if your sight is still good enough
(unless you are truck or bus driver).
Although you likely could get in trouble if you cause accident knowing
that you were diagnosed as blind.
@@ruto693zelda84 and they cant get a driving license
Given that Lucy mentioned several blind people who drive rally cars, perhaps it’s not such a daft question as it first appears! It certainly made more sense that “can blind people live?” to me at any rate.
Me: (Reading the questions) "Why do blind people rock?"
Because we're just that awesome, duh! . . . Oh, they meant "rocking back and forth".
I literally went through that same process
Love it, brilliant! Totally agree
Some of these questions were really weird. Like “can blind people sleep” I’m very concerned for the people who asked those questions. Very concerned. That aside, I really love your channel!
Lol. Do blind people blink? That one got me but what a fantastic channel this is.
I've seen a braille Harry Potter book and I cried when I saw it. I'm not blind myself, but I love that people care enough to make a braille book. ❤️
That hamster fact is actually really interesting.
I'm a sighted person, but I've had a goal to learn Braille. And now that I've heard it's in danger of becoming a dying art, I feel like it's even more important to learn and preserve.
Hey Lucy! Have a good day😀
hiya 😀 hope you are having a good day thanks for watching 😀
For me, for the "do blind people see nothing" question.. I was born totally blind in one eye, with very poor vision in the other.. in my "bad eye" (as I call it) I see nothing at all, not black, just nothing.. In a way I'm kind of thankful to have the difference in my eyes because sometimes it's like I get the best of both worlds lol
Love your channel BTW, Keep up the amazing work you do 💜
Is it a certain color or if you put your hand over 1 eye and close it
@@mistyvk no colour, just nothing.. it's like I only have one eye..
as far as I know when an eye is closed it sees black (correct me if I'm wrong), this isn't even that.. An easy way to put it is, if your hand is behind your head, your hand doesn't change colour, it's just not visible at all
I hope that made sense
@@ecfog7120 how are you writing
@@smgaming296 the same way you are, just with enlarged text
@@smgaming296 Text to speech or as they said, enlarged text.
"Look at the bright side even if you can't see the sun" 😭😭😭 I LOVE this, and applies to sighted people as well ❤️
As someone who is half blind ( I'm blind in my left eye ) and is most likely going to go completely blind when I'm older ( I'm only 13 ) your channel gives me so much hope knowing that I'm still going to live a mostly normal life if I lose my eye sight, tho it will be sad not being able to draw
You can draw using textured art. Its probably different, but its a way.
How kind of you to make time stamps like this! I've never seen time stamps done for so many items, making it easy for people to learn :)
I’ve been blind since I’ve been six months old. So I don’t know what it is like to see like a non-blind person when I dream is just like nothing no color like black or nothing I feel like I’m in a movie or a lot of times I always dream that I’m falling that’s a lot of my dreams are my dreams are me falling and I’ve been blind since six months old and I didn’t start losing I started using my hair the age is between 11 and 15 we’re not a date without hearing aid considered total death do you need a profoundly hard of hearing and that’s for both your line. But the trouble thankfully I have to wear hearing aids and use my beautiful GUIDE DOGS that a reddish brown color with a pinkish nose part of his body part of hi
Thank you for your reply it is interesting for me to hear about how you have experienced dreams as a person who has been blind from age 6months 😀
Who just loves Lucy and her cheerful personality? I watch her when I feel sad, mad, or just stressed because to me her voice is beautiful and her personality is super cheerful and she seems to always look on the bright side! Love you Lucy! ❤️
Wow this woman is INCREDIBLE, not because of her blindness but for her fierce, boldness! Good for you sis! My vision is depleting and I’m very terrified but thank you for your awesomeness
Hope you are doing better 💖
lucy is such a beautiful, energetic, sweet person. i love her personality and voice so much! 💞
thanks so much 💛
As someone in a family with a risk for blindness in those with XX chromosomes, and as someone who already has low vision, I’m happy to know there are blind content creators out there and that if I do go blind I won’t be as restricted as I thought I would be

"You won't necessarily see us flying a plane"
Yes we will!
I love that she gave us a whole menu to munch on while watching, making sure we’re hydrated and fed she’s literally SO SWEET
Some of those questions were totally daft, I wonder about the people asking them.
at least they googled them instead of living in ignorance
Better to ask a seemingly stupid question than live in obvious stupidity.
Definitely, some people are either clueless or just not applying themselves to thinking about it. Teaching yourself online is easy. Im just so glad she didn't take any offense to any of it.

I appreciate how open and honest you are in answering questions, both in this video and in your "how does a blind girl" series. I'm sure you get asked some ridiculous questions all the time, but at the same time so many sighted people genuinely want to know more about your community. Thanks for being patientband educating people so kindly!
This is really great! My mum went blind from a genetic condition and she struggles, she gets bored and we just have to try and think of things for her to do, going to show her your channel tomorrow because I think you are so great! Do you have any tips for things that she can so when she feels like this? Would really love your advice for her, your positivity is amazing xx
The quote "no, you won't necessarily see [a blind person] flying a plane..." is very funny to hear when I just watched a video of you flying a plane with Tom Scott right before this!
I suppose the sky isn't the limit after all!
Hi Lucy, I absolutely love your videos and your positive attitude. I have so much respect for you and for people out there who can’t see or have any other disabilities. I hope you’re having a great day. Hugs from Boston USA ! 😊😊
Hey😀thanks so much for watching so glad you love the videos 💛
Here in Los Angeles, California, U.S. in what we call downtown there’s a school for blind people; it’s called Braille Institute. So as you’re heading towards Sunset (Hollywood) you start seeing more walking sticks and guide dogs. It’s pretty cool.
some of these questions are so dumb. i feel like people are forgetting that blind people are, well, people. they’re not some alien creature, they’re just like the rest of us.
(came from tom scott's video colab)
I found the "can blind people swim" question HILARIOUS
I, as a person who can see very well, usually swim blind, because goggles aren't airtight, they suck, I don't buy them, and most pool water is chlorinated and hurts to have your eyes open, though salt water pools don't hurt to have your eyes open, so I just swim blind for the most part lmao, sure I can pop my head up to check, but that is an unnecessary luxury, I can very well guesstimate how far I've traveled, and you can of course always keep a hand out so you don't run into a wall
BTW I have properly learned 100% how to swim, not just roughly though if that makes a difference idk
My old classmates used to think if you go,or are blind or you lose your eyes you'd die..? I don't know how they came up with that ...
I'm glad I found you. Your an inspiration to so many people. I love your confidence
Thanks for watching and supporting my channel 😀

I'd be absolutely fucking amazed if Lucy pulled up in a car
Give it 5-10 years and I think it will be common
@@unnecessarilyepic1107 I mean If you trusted Tesla’s autopilot that much idk
@@mistyvk that's why is said 5 to 10 years. Its definitely not ready for the blind or even something like sleeping or reading. But the technology is advancing quicker than ever before. And I would not be surprised to see blind people start to drive autonomous cars in specific areas within that time frame.

Wow props to you! What a great video, I can't believe some of those were actual questions! But I guess some people just don't have any experience with someone who is blind.

I feel so bad when I hear Lucy said that blind people is most likely to have nightmares more than sighted people
You are very inspirational young lady. Thank you for the video. Take care.
Hi Lucy. What a great video. I have been totally blind since birth. I thought some of these questions were quite funny. I wonder who asked if blind people could eat and go to the bathroom. I liked how playful and joyful you sounded during the video. Iphones really are great devices and can help out a lot when it comes to doing some daily tasks. Keep on smiling!!
Such fun and well thought out answers! Thanks for putting in the effort for this one!
Thank you so glad you enjoyed 😄
Thank you for answering all theses questions 🥰
Thats no problem so glad the video is helpful 💛
I loved this! Thank you, Lucy! It can feel very awkward, even rude, for a sighted person to ask genuine questions of the blind. Personally, I do not want to be offensive but I definitely have... questions. You seem like a ton of fun and I enjoyed your explanations. THANK YOU 😁😁😁👋✌️
Lucy, you inspire me to live my life with purpose, despite setbacks.
Lucy, you are lovely and such an inspiration! Love your videos so much ❤️
This was really interesting. I am a sighted person who got onto watching this channel because my nan is going blind. I have shown her some of these videos to show an example of a blind person who has adapted and is happy and functional. I have learned a whole lot myself too.
As a person who doesn't have any sort of visual impairments, this was really informative! Thank you for making this video. :)
Ok I just for perspective..I walked up to my 7 year old and asked her several of these questions one after another. She scowled at me, dropped her jaw and said, “ugh...what is wrong with you? Why are you so mean?!” I am Shook to my core that people asked these questions. I just can’t get over it!
Any ailment is kind of a taboo topic and people don't want to think about being blind, deaf or mute. It's scary, very scary as it takes away one of our main communication sources.
That makes a majority of people rather stupid about these topics and it's necessary to break the taboos and teach, talk and learn about those conditions.
@Hoi im temmie I get that, but asking ignorant or rude questions directly from an affected individual isn't the best way to go about it. It's best to go to someone who is volunteering the info like Lucy is, or actually do the work and teach yourself. It's easy online. These questions aren't too bad, but people can be downright cruel. I have severe Crohns Disease, among other issues, and have heard the wildest, most insulting things. The worst ones usually aren't even asked by considerate or caring people, they're just morbidly curious about their disgusting assumptions. They also like to laugh a lot about the questions and answers. Not all curiosity is innocent.
@@ItsAllAboutPerspective375 you'd be surprised how little those question pop up in a busy mind.
And it's not mine to be offended about those question, nor to judge people who asked them. I don't know those people and their reason to ask. Where they bored? Dumb? Bored and dumb? Curious? Was it a task for biology class?
@@astrisperspecto4130 We can agree to disagree then, but you have two different affected people telling you that this happens. It also can vary greatly from person to person, and on which health issues you have. I really don't know how you're arguing with us that it doesn't. I'm in my 30's and its been a lifelong battle. I've had people do this at every age of my life, and from people of all different ages. Maybe some were daft and it was accidental, while others definitely were not. Regardless, there are actually appalling questions people ask, from stupid, to cruel, to none of their freaking business because it's definitely private. Every health issue and person are different. Maybe with time you will understand that.
@@ItsAllAboutPerspective375 no need to get personal here, though.
If you WANT to be offended by the last questions of this video, fine by me. But don't expect nor enforce others to shut down people who asks *Google* if a blind person can do whatever. As mentioned at the beginning of the video, she answered the top 100 questions about blindness and blind people you get from the Google research.
You ask for people to educate themselves, which is good. And then you get all hissy and angry if people, and I can't repeat it enough, GOOGLE to get their answers. Not a live person, *G O O G L E*. A web search device, to learn about a topic they're interested.
Please make up your mind
This video is so informative. You are such a lovely and inspiring person. You show how you can't let disability pull you down. Stay strong we live you so much 😊

One might think that you don't need to rest your eyes if you don't use them.
Although i dearly hope that this question was googled by young children an not adults.
You are amazing!! I love ur videos they teach me so much and I am really trying to learn to speak ASL or sign language (idk of I wrote it trght?) But you are amazing and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
My grandpa was legally blind for a few years in his early twenties (his condition was repairable by surgery) he describes his vision as folding a sheet of wax paper four times and trying to look through it.
you have a sweet voice and I love your accent. Just keep up and take good care. One day you will see the world again.God bless you.
