Vauxhall (Opel) Zafira B 2011 M32 gearbox issues

  • Over the past few months I've found my Vauxhall Zafira gearstick was getting a little stiffer and not self-centering.
    This video is about discovering what it could be, and trying a simple reseat and grease of the cables and turret on the gearbox to see if it helps.
    If this doesn't work then my next choice will be to replace the cables linking the gearstick to the gearbox turret.
    Enjoy watching!

    I'm just investigating the same problem. It's not the inside linkages or the cables, just the left right movement which makes the turret arm go up and down. There is a pin with a clip behind the turret which corrodes (can't see from the front on a Zafira). Taking the clip off, pushing the pin out and freeing it all off sorts it 🙂

    Hi Andy thnaks for this video!
    I Have a question for you.
    I have a 1.8 petrol Zafira 2009 and if I use the reverse I often have a loud cracking sound in the gear box, so I suggest I have to align the gear cables as you do in this video.
    unfortunately I don't have a turrent or alignment hole to put a drillbit in.
    Do you have any idea how I can align the cables without the turret an alignmenthole?
    I have made picturen of the gear selection which I can send so you have a better view.
    Can you tell me how I can know what gearbox type mij car has?
    Thanks in advance!

    I have this exact issue on my Zafira 1.7 CDTI (2011) Springs back from the left most times but is very slow moving from the right to neutral i had the car in the garage a few weeks ago over a electrical issue so asked them to have a quick look at the gearbox. They said they could not find any issue with the clutch so just lubricated the gear like you have shown in this video which has helped but still the issue is there. I think i will get this looked at again in July in more depth when its next due for MOT because this is quite annoying but not undrivable 'good video and please update us on this :)

      Thanks for the feedback, it seems quite common but I've yet to find somebody confirm the fix. I'm thinking the turret in engine bay but I've not had a chance to fix as I've not really been driving it much. Hope you get yours sorted and I'll try and follow up with another video soon

    Hi Andy it's me again 😃 any luck with the stiff gearbox when warm? I still have this exact problem so looking into options. Do you think a gearstick oil change could help? My local garage said they would do it for £50 so I think I might get it done and post my results . Have you had the Cambelt and waterpump done ? I have just had mine done and would love to see how its performed if you ever decide to make a video. I'm waffling again lol😂😂 anyway did you get to the issue of the gearbox I am determined to find a solution

    I've got an issue with my Corsa D gearstick, it seems relatively hard at times, to put the car into 1st gear especially, and this is most noticeable when I'm still moving. When I come to a stop, it isn't that bad. Any ideas why?

    • @junkendriven
      @junkendriven  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi there, this is pretty typical on the Corsa D (We have a corsa D 2011 A12XER petrol, 1.2 Twinport, 86 HP). The synchromesh on them pretty much stop you engaging 1st when moving at all. On first going into gear it helps to go to second then first (whilst clutch still pressed) which helps the synchro set the gears and avoids the tough gear placement and the slight crunch if you force it.

    • @Happyvalets
      @Happyvalets Před 10 měsíci

      Could be a couple of things, either 5th gear selector fork has failed and has caused wear on selector sleeve/hub. Needs rebuild.

      @junkendriven  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi John, apologies I never posted the follow up video.
      The problem went away, I didn't replace the cables. My guess is they were drying up with lack of use so the extra movement has helped

    Give us an update on if this helped andy as i have the same issue, don't want to do all that work and the issue remains. If it comes to changing cables out please to a in depth video as ill most likely need to the same. Someone did tell me it may be the selector itself on the gear box thats gone stiff but I'm not sure.

    • @junkendriven
      @junkendriven  Před 3 lety

      Will do, yes I'm not hopeful to be honest as mentioned at the end of the video as after re-assembly I can still feel the self-centering not working. So since that's at cold it suggests to me the gear selector turret that I think you're referring to there? If so then yes next job would be to take the turret off and I think there is a metal clip in there that starts to jam. As always I'll test it out and post a video soon. I'm not using the car much so it's low priority for me!

    • @junkendriven
      @junkendriven  Před 3 lety +1

      It's a 2011 car, unfortunately build quality isn't great on Vauxhall and a lot of the problems I have are age related, these are all typical as the car does stand a lot not being used, and from what I understand this was the case with the owner before me (They did very few miles). Nothing more than age related wear and tear.
