  • This is to solve the engine surging, jumping, seeking. At idle if you hear/see the engine revving up and down then it is likely the Surge control valve. Here are the steps to replacing it which is an easy job.
    This is the diesel 1.7 CDTI ecoflex engine (I believe it's the same on Astra and Meriva) A17DTJ engine code (diesel, 1.7 CDTI, 110 HP, DPF installed)
    Update 14/07/2020 : This is an updated part as previous ones have changed/gone
    OEM/OE code DCRS301110 Denso diesel fuel suction control valve

    I change the EGR unit. the fuel pump filter. mass airflow unit .had the engine tank cleaned out..this was the recommendation by three different garages. Who put on three different diagnostic machines.I took your advice and bought the suction valve worked straight away after spending £900 on stuff I did not need. Thanks a lot I wish I looked at your video £900 ago. Thanks again.

      Ah parts darts from the garage. Yes, the thing is it's an odd fault and could be all of the parts you had replaced or a combination. But start with the cheapest first and work from there. I'm glad you got sorted but pity it couldn't have been a cheaper bill to pay :(

      Meant to add, no diagnostic scanner I'm aware of will highlight an issue with the SCV, it just won't generate a code (perhaps completely unplugged it would) so diagnostics will almost never show an SCV problem

    Hi Andy. Thanks for the video. I had exactly this problem on my 2012 Astra J 1.7 CDTi. Bought a replacement SCV off eBay and fitted it yesterday. Bit of a faff getting access to it, but replacing it has done the job and no need to re-calibrate the ECU or anything like that. The surging has gone and the car pulls much stronger from cold when moving off - previously it felt down on power when pulling away from cold, but I'd put this down to general deterioration of the engine, but not so. Now drives like a new car! Cheers. Graham

    Did mine today, here's some tips from me.
    Prop bonnet up on the right with a broom shag so the bonnet stay isn't in the way, (better access).
    Do not take plastic cover of the rocker cover, the fuel return pipes T peices are easily broken and cost £70 to replace as it comes as one unit (ouch).
    Mine came with a gasket, rubber seals, as its arkward to hold the scv in place I places a strip of masking tape across the tin seal, once into position and the new bolts in place it can be easily removed.
    When i started it back up it did the same lumpy idle, I turned it off and restarted, idle was back to normal.

That engine idle and rev counter is identical to what I'm currently experiencing. So I have no doubt it's that. I've ordered a new SCV and will be fitting it Tuesday. Hopefully this will be solved.

      czcams.com/video/3R2MCWQGCT4/video.html
      The difference I found is with egr the rev hunting didn't go away, it would do it at different revs, speeds, after engine earned up, etc.

      Hi, no the pcv is part of the engine ventilation system (often a plastic circle on the top of vauxhall engines, unsure on the zafira location). It's part of the crankcase ventilation system and if blocked it can cause issues.
      The surge control valve is used for controlling the pressure on the fuel rail from the high pressure pump.

      Squealing sounds like accessory or fan belt so that wouldn't cause major problems (yes could be alternator bearings).
      Limp mode is normally sensor or computer variable out of range, get codes read again after limp mode as could be all sorts causing it. If limp mode clears itself then it's a temporary fault such as turbo actuator position problems, egr still could be sticky.

      Nope, blue smoke at idle is not a good sign, that's normally oil being burnt. Check oil levels, see if it's way too high, if so it needs draining and all oil relplacing as diesel has mixed into oil.

      Yes, I believe it's one and the same on the 1.7cdti ecoflex engine. The Surge control valve is directly on the back of the high pressure fuel pump so my guess is it's also called the regulator as it's a solenoid that can pulse to vary the pressure.

      @junkendriven  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi, no the surge control valve doesn't cause any change to smoke, etc, it only causes the rev hunting or kangaroo'ing. Pure white smoke suggests water vapour, white with a tint of blue would point to oil. You need to get that checked out ASAP if it's doing either constantly. Check your coolant bottle for any oil residue, and your oil filler cap for a creamy white substance, could be head gasket, oil cooler, or all sorts of things but all could be bad.

      @junkendriven  Před 3 lety

      Hiya, so my suspicion is that it is not this fault, the loosing power when accelerating is what makes me think this, the SCV is generally only idling and low revs noticeable, it impacts engine/fuel surging so would not normally cause a lack of power so I think you need to check elsewhere.
