Smug alone has brought Dudley into the picture and more players use him because of what they see Smug do with the character. This was a true treat for us to see. Great play by both players first off. Take a deeper look into this matchup and these guys were totally adapting to each others play style. Smug started off with tons of pressure and solid was having issues. He adapted and started putting his cr.fwd and cr.str out there to catch dudley coming in and it caused smug a to have issues. The footsie game was superb in this set...I was wondering when smug was going to just stop a combo to bait out solid's mashing. He waited till the end of the set to catch on to it....great job by both. One of the best 1st to 10's i have seen in a long time!

This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do; watch a beautiful game between two good players, and not somehow read the comments before I watch the match lol *such a bad bad habit* anyway great set from the two. I guess it lacked a bit of spark because, Solid didn't bring his "spark" to the game, but it was probably because he knew what he was up against so he had to adjust to the player and character, so he just brought his A-game instead of his online game so to speak. After watching Smug play ChrisG last night I can now see anyone with a good enough c.mk and pokes can cause a lot of problems for Dudley ... but whatever, great set and thanks for the upload Yoga! :)

Great set. Smug is definitely the player to keep an eye on. Hope he can make it to more tournaments; it would only elevate his game to greater heights. Smug, I wish you would have option selected lp dash straight in order to catch Solid's chronic back dash.

The way he opens the oponent's guard to attack almost not jumping is amazing.
solid was great, he was like his name says solid, smuggles though was a beast and he overcame some of those rly bad beatdowns and played his game, really loosening up at the end and throwing in some amazing mixumps and combos. What a clutch dudley player

Man, what was this, 40 minutes? I didn't even realize it. Ridiculously good set. My favorite so far. I think the Evo grand finals should use this system (first to 10). It makes for a good way for each fighter to show consistency/execution, adaptability and endurance.
The problem is logistics. That system would add an extra 28 possible matches to the grand finals.

I hope we all need to realize how fk'd up of a combo Ryu just did to this dude at 28:07. he Buster Boots Dudley's Face to da roof, brings it back down with the heel hammer of god, and rock em sock ems his face right back up again with the dragon action super uppercut fury, and finally sends the nigga spinning with his tatsu. as if the first three parts werent enough. dudley head gonna be spinning for days.

I thought in a long set this becomes in Ryu's favor. Ryu has the keep-away and zoning tools to shut Dudley completely, while Dudley is deadly up close with pressure and frame traps. As good defense and zoning survive a long set, mixups and mindgames become less effective. However, well played and props to the winner. he adapted to everything, outplayed and outclassed
Yep in this case it was down to the players. Smug's good offline as well as he is online and has great patients for zoners. I think that set he ran again Sanford's Sagat and playing more offline exhibitions is helping his skill grow a lot. Solid has yet to make the full transition and get good offline as good as he is online. Someday he'll get there i'm sure.
Dudley can very well be zoned. Zoning isn't a fireball only skill, chars like vega have very effective zoning with just normals. Zoning is dictating the pace of the matchup as well as controlling the spacing of both chars.

yeah that goes along with what Im saying. zoning wise it's not not in his advantage. Dudley was considered low tier all AE2012. He waits more than the average character to get in
Dudley is known to get bodied by low profile normals. He's low tier on ae2012 because of his moves not working as intended. F.mp is intended to help with the low profiling problem but dudley still gets bodied by lows. And he by no means gets in easily. In most matchups where dudley has to deal with zoning he often has to take heavy risks to get in(like dhalsim, rose, vega, chun li, guile etc) only matchup where this isn't a problem is Sagat and that's because since sagats fireball has a massive amount of recovery it becomes a liability in that match. Every other zoning char will zone and poke dudley quite easily until he guessed right, takes the right risk and reaps the benefits.

Can someone explain why Solid is so hyped up? I mean, I know this match is awkward for Ryu and he doesn't have that many tools against Dudley... But, wake-up sweep...? For real? Reversal fireball on wake-up? He just doesn't stop pressing buttons, even at frame disadvantage.
He has safe-jumps and good execution and not much else. What's so hype?

I was hoping solid would had won this but in this match up Ryu's focus is not a good tool since Dudley has to many armor breakers.. But solid did a great job and smug.

Lag? Felt Solid was one-dimensional on this set! Limited cross-over tatsus and very little mix-up. Not to say that this dudley wasn't sick! But something was missing! Great set though!
