Good video for showing how to set up the float itself. However, I would recommend editing this to explain “how” or “why” this method will work. I was on the verge of buying a whole new sump pump this evening because the onboard float/switch has been very spotty lately. I ran across a similar product at Lowes, and thought it may fix my problem, however there aren’t a lot of videos that explain the process, and it’s hard to wrap my head around how the tether actually works. What voltage to use for a float switch?
I have my jet pump running on 120 VAC so I was going to use the same current, however I am not sure if I should reduce the voltage for the float. I am thinking something similar to irrigation solenoid valves. Thanks for the video,
At what point does the switch turn on? Could I fasten/anchor basically horizontal in the bottom of a shallow pan 8" deep and have it go on when the level gets a few inches deep to make the switch slightly vertical?
what if there is no discharge pipe to connect it to? eg. there is just a float that hangs into the water
Good question! In this case, the anchor point is either an external weight connected to the cord or the float itself.
Are those clamps reliable? How long do they last?
The SS clamp and float clip easily outlast the life of the float switch.

We have a 2 float system and are alarm goes off multiple times a day, Last time we had someone come out he said like fat or stuff from waste is getting stuck on the floats? and making the alarm go off and the Pump NOT turn on by itself. So we have to manual turn it on every time. He said replacing the float wouldnt fix this? Is he wrong? Is there a new better float system to turn on the pump? Are 1 float system better than 2? What is something we can do it get this fixed? Because our guy didnt seem to have the answer but Having less waste go in x.x

Why does float turn water on at the top instead of off ?
The float turns the pump ON when it's VERTICAL and OFF when it's down, so make sure it doesn't get stuck horizontal or your pump will stay on until the over temp circuit shuts the pump off. If it's mounted on something wider than the pump it can sit there on the pump platform and not shut the pump off. My pump is an effluent pump with a good size sump catching the run off from the septic drain no toilet paper or solids.If your pump stops working FIRST plug it into the outlet without the piggyback float plug, if it pumps then you need another float switch, unless it's 10-15 years old then, replace the system.
