    Adding citations from the online search results directly into Word no longer seems to be supported in Endnote 20 compared to previous versions. This adds several extra steps and is quite frustrating. Or is there some way to add a citation into Word without having to go switch to a library after searching online?

    PERFECT introduction to an AMAZING piece of software. Why did my friend (who just finished her Doctorate in English Literature) have to tell me about this. Why isn't it orientation day 101 with the University? Are they intentionally trying to make things hard, or intentionally trying to make you do as much work as possible? (Perhaps so we understand it from the ground-up before we "get lazy" and use tools like this?!?!?!?!) Love it, and this intro video was GREAT.

    It is most unfortunate that the PDF preview functionality was removed from EN20. EN20 now requires users to launch an external PDF viewer each time. Why?! Up to X9, this was an available feature. Compared to X9, EN20 also wastes a lot of screen real estate. Everyone who upgraded to EN20 and spoke out on EndNote's public forums was disappointed with EN20.

    I find it very helpful to store my EN library on the cloud as I can access it on my different computers but as mentioned in the video it has a high risk of library corruption. How do they corrupt? Please educate us, I am clueless.

    • @EndNoteTraining
      @EndNoteTraining  Před rokem

      Hello, Himanshu: Thanks very much for the question. Your EndNote library consists of multiple database files. The EndNote application writes to these files in an order that usually conflicts with how a sync service synchronizes its folders, leading to EndNote library corruption. So long as you're aware of the risk and backing up your EndNote library frequently, it's your choice if you'd like to store a library you're actively developing within a third-party sync service. It is safe to save backup copies of your EndNote libraries inside local sync folders.
      EndNote 20 includes a built-in solution called Sync, which coordinates the contents of a particular EndNote library between multiple computers via EndNote online. If you choose to rely on EndNote Sync, you will want to seriously consider saving your designated EndNote Sync library inside an unsynced local folder. Avoiding this type of folder for EndNote libraries you're actively syncing with EndNote online helps to avert potential sync issues and an increased risk of encountering library corruption. We hope this advice is helpful, but please feel free to open a ticket with EndNote Product Support for further assistance: www.endnote.com/support

      @EndNoteTraining  Před 2 lety

      Hello, random_lulu: thanks very much for your question. Apple developed an EndNote plug-in for Pages to cite and format in-text citations and an accompanying bibliography. You can review a recent webinar recording focusing on this topic:
      czcams.com/video/iSP8J_kM0x4/video.html
      The EndNote add-in for Pages is not very similar to the Cite While You Write tools in Word but will help you achieve a similar end-goal. All formatting should remain intact after final submission. Still, the EndNote links will become damaged if you convert the Pages file format to a different extension like .docx for Microsoft Word. • @EndNoteTraining
      @EndNoteTraining  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello, Bill: thanks for your comment and apologies for the trouble inserting a footnote reference. Be sure to create your footnote first using Microsoft Word to do so. Typically, you'll find the Insert Footnote command on Word's References tab. After inserting a footnote, make sure your cursor is flashing within the document window's footnote area, and then use EndNote to add your formatted footnote reference. If you'd like to highlight an entry within your library to add to your Word document, after selecting the reference, click Tools > Cite While You Write [CWYW] > Insert Selected Citation(s). Alternately, press Alt + 2 to trigger the Insert Selected Citation(s) command without selecting a drop-down menu. Make sure you're formatting your Microsoft Word document with the Chicago 16th Footnote or Chicago 17th Footnote output style. Please let us know if this advice is helpful.

      Hello, Amrit: thanks very much for your comment, and sorry to hear about your article downloading trouble. You can always manually attach PDF articles you download from the web. Still, several automated options are available for capturing full-text articles associated with references stored within your EndNote library. One of the more straightforward solutions is called Find Full Text. To use this feature, highlight one or more references (up to 250 at once) in your library and click "References > Find Full Text > Find Full Text." By default, the Find Full-Text search in EndNote will locate open-access publications. Still, you may be able to include additional providers via organizational affiliation by adding an OpenURL server address to the Find Full Text tab of the EndNote 20 Preferences window.
      Alternatively, an optional browser extension called EndNote Click may be of interest to you:
      click.endnote.com/
      The EndNote Click browser extension is compatible with over 20,000 scholarly sites, and the tool will help you export both reference metadata to add to your EndNote library along with the associated PDF article at the same time. A recent webinar recording of an EndNote Click-specific session should help provide a complete overview of this browser extension:
